Chapter 128 It Shouldn't Be Like This

Paul wasn't about to let Richard shed blood to deal with Elizabeth.

He turned to Dominic. "Mr. Day, can you sell us two divination artifacts?"

Dominic was surprised. After all this, Paul still refused?

All his efforts were wasted. He came here to get the Clark brothers' blood to deal with Elizabeth.

He sighed, "These artifacts were passed down to Alfonso by my teacher. I don't have them, and we can't lend or sell heirlooms. I hope you understand."

Paul didn't push. "I was being presumptuous."

He'd look for other divination masters to borrow or buy one for Richard.

Seeing Paul still didn't agree, Dominic suggested, "To ease their pain, it's best to shed some blood. Don't worry, I won't harm the person who hurts them."

He added, "The pain from this evil aura will lessen once it rebounds, and she'll be back to normal in a few days. It won't harm her body."

Paul caught the key point. "So you're saying what she has done causes pain but no lingering harm in my son's body?"

Dominic hadn't expected that question. If he lied, Paul might worry more about Elizabeth and refuse to resolve it.

He decided to be honest. "Yes, evil aura is like a punishment, causing pain but not harming the body. It's more like phantom pain."

He emphasized, "So when it rebounds, it won't harm her body either."

Of course, he was half-lying.

Usually, the rebound only causes pain without much physical harm, but he planned to use Richard's blood to cast a spell on Elizabeth.

Using the blood for other spells later would severely harm her.

Paul could tell Dominic was being truthful.

He thought Elizabeth wouldn't be cruel enough to destroy Richard's body.

So he was relieved, "As long as it doesn't harm the body, it's fine. A few days of pain is no big deal."

Paul was suspicious of these witchcraft masters and wouldn't let Richard shed blood.

'They say it won't harm Elizabeth, but who knows? And even if it doesn't now, who knows what they'll do with Richard's blood later?' Paul thought.

Dominic and Alfonso were silent. It shouldn't be like this! Paul should have agreed when he heard it wouldn't harm the body.

Richard wasn't surprised by Paul's choice. Family fights were still inside the family. Outsiders shouldn't interfere.

Brenda hadn't expected Paul to be so biased.

To protect Elizabeth, he didn't care about Richard.

She had been in the Clark Family for over a decade as an adopted daughter. Even if they weren't close, there should be some feelings.

Yet he was so cold and indifferent.

If he didn't care before, why step in now?

She had regretted coming to the Clark Group with Richard today.

She should have encouraged Richard to let these witchcraft masters go to their home to help.

Without Paul around, he wouldn't interfere.

Dominic, unwilling to give up, looked at Paul and said, "But Alfonso and I no longer have any divination artifacts to alleviate their pain."

He cursed Alfonso for being stupid enough to lend out the divination artifacts.

Paul smiled warmly. "It's okay, let them learn a lesson. Thank you both for your hard work today."

Paul dealt with the two of them and handed over two checks as compensation for their efforts.

The three stood talking, but Brenda, unwilling to give up, saw Paul had his back turned. She tugged at Enrique again.

Hubert noticed and nudged Richard, signaling him to look.

Richard saw Enrique turn his head, and Brenda, with red eyes and a pale face, mouthed, "Enrique, I'm in so much pain."

Heartbroken, Enrique reached out to touch her head, then walked over to Paul. "Dad, why give up if it can be resolved? Richard and Brenda are still in pain. How can they work like this? That divination artifact isn't enough for everyone. They can't endure this for ten more days!"

Paul, having just convinced the two masters to leave, felt his smile fade. He gave Enrique a warning look. "Shut up."

Enrique, defiant, said, "Dad, you never cared about us before, so why now? Elizabeth is your daughter, but Richard and Brenda are your children too. She's being ruthless to them now; who knows if she'll turn on you and Mom later? Letting it rebound and teaching her a lesson is the right thing to do. Since it won't harm her body, Elizabeth won't even know you did this."

Paul was silent. He suddenly felt he had indeed been a negligent father all these years. Whether it was his sons or his daughter, he hadn't really been there for them. He used to be busy with work, and later he thought they were adults with their own lives. Now he realized he was wrong. Enrique had been led astray to this extent.

Paul was furious. "Brenda is your sister, but isn't Elizabeth too?"

He had spent so little time at home that he didn't know his sons would go to such lengths for Brenda.

Enrique said, "She's my sister too, but this is her fault. Whoever's fault it is should bear the consequences. Isn't that right?"

If Elizabeth hadn't inflicted some evil aura on Richard and Brenda, things wouldn't have escalated like this. The younger Clark thought, 'Since it was Elizabeth's fault, she should bear the consequences.' 'Since it doesn't harm her body, she can endure some pain. Why is Paul so stubborn?'

Paul found it impossible to communicate with Enrique. "Richard isn't in a hurry, so why are you?"

Richard also said, "Hubert and I don't want to resolve it. Enrique, you're making a fool of yourself."

If Hubert hadn't pointed it out, he wouldn't have noticed Brenda's little schemes and actions. If she wanted to resolve it, she should speak up herself! She was afraid of displeasing Paul, so she let Enrique, the fool, speak for her. He also felt a bit embarrassed.

Seeing Enrique like this, he couldn't help but think of his past self. He had been used by Brenda like this many times. It's embarrassing; thinking about it now, he felt utterly humiliated.

Dominic was very displeased. He hadn't achieved his goal today and had been physically harmed by the rebound. So he looked at Richard and Hubert and asked, "Are you sure you don't want to resolve it? I'm leaving Clifftonshireburg tomorrow. If you want to resolve it later, I won't be able to help."

Richard and Hubert exchanged a glance. "Thank you, Mr. Day, but we don't want to resolve it."

Alfonso suddenly said, "The divination artifact was a gift from my teacher, so I can't let you take it home. Please return it to me."

This was also a way to force them to choose to resolve it.

Meanwhile, in the studio, Rebecca said to Elizabeth, "I have a feeling those two old men are up to no good. They seem very eager to force them to resolve it. They're meddling too much!"

Elizabeth nodded. "They're definitely targeting me."

She squinted and said, "Since that's the case, I'll let them make their own choice. I want to see if they'll still take their artifacts back when only Brenda and Angela are in pain."
