Chapter 87 They Had All Underestimated Her
Richard grabbed his phone and checked out Raymond's post.
[@Raymond: The best contract in the industry? Richard deceiving his own sister without fear of being exposed? Well, let me expose the truth. Below is the contract our company gave to Elizabeth.]
He posted the contract, hiding the confidential parts.
Rex had given the green light for this.
He loved seeing the Clark brothers squirm.
He couldn't wait to see their reaction when they found out Elizabeth had started her own studio and poached people from Clark Entertainment.
Seeing Raymond's post, Richard realized their PR efforts were not only useless but also backfired.
Richard was already mad at Elizabeth, and now Raymond's help made it worse.
He turned to Loren and said, "Raymond's too cocky. Shouldn't we teach him a lesson?"
Loren thought for a moment and shook his head. "We can't touch him right now."
Richard frowned. "Why? Starlight Entertainment Group is bullying us."
Loren replied, "Raymond's arrogance isn't from Starlight Entertainment Group, but from his family. If we mess with Raymond, we might anger his family, and that's trouble. Plus, he's got deep connections in the industry, and his fans are nuts. Anyone who crosses him is in for it."
Richard gritted his teeth. "So we just take this? He belittled Kevin, bullied Brenda, and now he's helping Elizabeth humiliate us. Does he think we're pushovers? I can't stand this."
Loren stayed calm. "We have to take it, like it or not. We can't afford to provoke his family. Raymond is Alan Gonzalez's favorite grandson and the youngest son, very spoiled. We're just businessmen; we can't fight his family. In the entertainment industry, even Rex wouldn't dare offend major investors, but Raymond does."
"Last time, he exposed a major investor who liked to have female artists accompany him for drinks. That guy didn't even dare to retaliate. That's where Raymond's arrogance comes from." he went on, "The contract given to Elizabeth wasn't from the higher-ups at Starlight Entertainment Group."
There were certain rules in the industry. Even if Rex saw potential in Elizabeth, he wouldn't give her the best contract from Starlight, let alone a more flexible one."This contract was definitely out of respect for Raymond." Loren stood up and patted Richard's shoulder. "So you have to swallow this anger. If there's a chance to hurt Raymond without getting caught, take it. But not now."
He was also angry at Raymond's arrogance, but they couldn't afford to provoke his family, so they had to endure it.
Richard knew Raymond's family had government connections, and if they went after Clark Entertainment, just investigating contracts and taxes would be enough to crush the Clarks.
He gritted his teeth. "Fine, I'll endure it."
In the future, if he had the chance, he would definitely settle these scores.
"Can't deal with Raymond, but what about Elizabeth? She's deliberately going against us and humiliating us. If we let her continue, who knows how much worse it'll get."
Loren asked, "So how do you plan to deal with her?"
This question stumped Richard.
Yeah, how was he going to deal with Elizabeth?
Not letting her do variety shows? But she had saved Arthur's wife, so Arthur wouldn't deny her that favor. Banning her from the industry? She'd even more popular now because of those shows. Paying people to slander her? She would turn it around and make them look bad.
Now she was about to join Starlight Entertainment, and he had no idea where to start.
He regretted, "We should've signed a contract with her when she joined the company."
If they had, she wouldn't have been able to leave without paying a hefty fee, keeping her under his control.
Loren stayed calm. "Haven't you realized she was prepared all along? Back then, we didn't bring up the contract, and neither did she. Maybe she was already planning for this."
Richard was stunned, unwilling to admit it but had to acknowledge that Elizabeth was indeed prepared.
This realization made him feel even worse.
Loren also felt bad. "Haven't you noticed? She's acting like she fears nothing, deliberately going against us. So, let's pause any plans against her."
Loren added, "If we keep this up, the Clark family will become a laughingstock in high society."
Being schemed against and humiliated by his own sister, Richard felt extremely frustrated.
He unwillingly asked, "So we just let it go?"
Loren retorted, "What else can we do? What can you do to her now?"
Richard was silent; it seemed he had no options.
He clenched his fists. "Then let her be arrogant this time."
In the future, he would find a chance to make her come back and submit to his power.
Online, because of the consecutive posts by Elizabeth and Raymond, along with Elizabeth's hints and provocations, everyone couldn't help but speculate.
They believed that Richard, Elizabeth's own brother, was trying to coerce and manipulate her, posting online to help Eugene and Brenda cover up and clarify.
Elizabeth's fans and many righteous people flocked to Richard's account to curse him.
Eugene and Brenda were also dragged out and scolded again, reigniting the heat that had just died down.
Seeing herself being schemed against by Elizabeth and scolded by so many people again, Brenda was furious and on the verge of a breakdown.
She sat in the living room, crying in frustration.
She wanted to become a top-tier star in the entertainment industry, but not by being scolded to gain popularity.
Her brothers saw this and tried to comfort her.
But under the watchful eye of the housekeeper, they didn't dare to hug and console her.
Kevin pondered before suggesting, "Shall we skip the next variety show episode?"
Feeling the sting of Elizabeth's icy attitude and mockery during the last taping, he wasn't up for a repeat in the upcoming shoot. The whole situation made him reconsider his participation. Seeing Brenda getting chewed out only solidified Kevin's resolve—he was seriously contemplating bowing out for good.
His proposal was met with instant resistance from Brenda. "No, I ain't backing down."
Quitting now would mean she was afraid of Elizabeth.
She had already planned how to turn her image around and win the audience's favor in the next episode.
Most importantly, her dreams had hinted that this variety show would become increasingly popular.
Otherwise, why would she have gone through other means to get on the show after failing to take Elizabeth's spot?
Besides wanting to outshine Elizabeth, it was because of the hints in her dreams that she wanted to be on this show and then become famous.
Now, how could she be willing to give up?
