Chapter 24

Eugene knew Elizabeth had minored in mechanical engineering back in college, but he was still surprised at how many appliances she could fix.

Kevin, on the other hand, had no clue about Elizabeth's skills. She'd been home for over a year and never mentioned it.

Even if she had, the Clark family wouldn't have thought much of it. They might've even scolded her, telling her to focus on something more "respectable."

Brenda silently cursed Elizabeth. She thought Elizabeth was too good at hiding things; they had no idea she could do all this.

‘No wonder she insisted on coming to this show to show off; she was really scheming.’

Looking at the pile of food on the table, compared to the few lonely items they had, Brenda was jealous.

‘So what if she's good at fixing things? It's not that impressive,’ Brenda mused to herself.

Elizabeth might be proud for a day or two, but once there were no more appliances to fix, Brenda wondered how she'd steal the spotlight then.

Eyeing the array of pork and chicken on the table, Brenda remarked, “You guys made quite a catch today. With all this food, do you think you can finish it all?”

She smiled and added, “It's hot, and we don't have a fridge. I wonder if the meat will spoil by tomorrow.”

They had spent most of the day harvesting fruit, but their reward didn't include any meat.

The family they worked for only gave them a dozen eggs, some bread, eggplants, cucumbers, cabbages, and potatoes.

She said this, hoping Elizabeth and her team would share some of their meat.

After all, it would be a waste if they couldn't finish it and it spoiled.

Of course, if Elizabeth didn't share, the audience might think she was stingy.

Elizabeth saw right through Brenda's hidden agenda. She knew Brenda wanted their meat.

She smiled and said, “It won't spoil. An old lady taught us to put the meat in a basket and hang it in the well to keep it fresh. And we happen to have a well in our yard.”

Brenda paused, realizing Elizabeth was playing dumb.

So she made it more straightforward: “You can't finish all that, can you?”

Elizabeth raised an eyebrow, “That's none of your concern.”

Raymond chimed in proudly, “Elizabeth earned this by fixing appliances.”

He looked at Brenda with a half-smile and added, “If you want meat, go earn it yourself. Don't covet ours.”

They'd rather feed the meat to the dogs than give it to Kevin and Brenda.

Brenda didn't expect Raymond to be so blunt.

What did he mean by saying they wanted to eat meat? Raymond was too much.

He knew she was a rich girl; what meat hadn't she eaten before?

She just wanted to show off her cooking skills by making some meat dishes she learned before for dinner, to shift the audience's attention from Elizabeth.

But the way Raymond said it made it seem like she was desperate for meat.

Her eyes reddened. “I didn't want to eat it, and I wasn't coveting it.”

She added pitifully, “I was just reminding you that it might spoil.”

But her pitiful look didn't evoke any sympathy from Raymond.

Raymond rolled his eyes, “Don't think you can fool me. I may not be well-educated, but I know exactly what you meant.”

Brenda had never been spoken to like this in public before.

Especially not by someone she was interested in, like Raymond.

She felt extremely wronged, her voice tinged with tears, “I really didn't.”

Kevin, seeing Brenda being bullied, naturally couldn't stand it.

He glared at Raymond and said, “If you know you're uneducated, then say less and stop bullying girls.”

Raymond sneered, “Yeah, I'm uneducated, not as capable as you siblings. But I speak the truth. I don't bully girls, so don't slander me.”

Elizabeth backed Raymond up, “You guys don't even let others speak the truth. Kevin, you're being too overbearing.”

She was more than happy to team up with Raymond to put Kevin in his place.

Kevin was furious. “Elizabeth, whose side are you on?” Elizabeth actually sided with someone who wasn't friendly to him; it was too much.

Elizabeth responded openly, “Of course, I'm on the side of whoever is right.”

Raymond pointed to himself. “Did you hear that? On the side of the one who's right.”

Seeing the three of them bickering, Arthur laughed.

Good, let them fight; it keeps the show interesting.

Who said a show had to have everyone united? Or that they had to pretend to be harmonious even when they couldn't stand each other?

Conflict is what makes it real!

He wasn't worried about Elizabeth at all. He had always known that Elizabeth was a very smart and rational person.

Since she had been opposing Kevin, Brenda, and Eugene on the live stream from the start, she must have her reasons.

He didn't think she was just trying to create buzz; he believed there would be some twist later on. If he guessed right, it would be another highlight and draw for the show.

So not only would he not stop them, but he was also happy to see the two teams argue and fight.

On the live stream, Kevin and Brenda's fans started cursing Raymond and Elizabeth, while Raymond's fans and Elizabeth's fans were now annoyed with Kevin and Brenda, thinking one was brainless and the other scheming.

[Brenda clearly wanted someone else's meat, but wouldn't admit it when called out. So fake.]

[Kevin protecting Brenda without asking why is just like the fool.]

[It's a bit scary how good he is to his sister.]

[If Kevin ever has a girlfriend and she argues with his sister Brenda, who will he side with?]

[He'll definitely side with Brenda!]

[Our Raymond may not be as educated as Kevin. He was only accepted early by a top foreign music academy at fifteen.]

[Our Raymond, uneducated, finished all his credits in just two years and graduated with honors. Then he came back to play games and won a world championship a year later. So irresponsible.]

[I remember Raymond is fluent in four languages, right? His education level is a bit lacking.]

[Everyone tells Raymond to study more, but he just won't listen to me.]

Raymond's fans subtly shut down Kevin's fans.

Then someone brought up a question.

[What did Kevin mean just now? Why does he think Elizabeth should be on his side?]

[Elizabeth practiced dancing with him alone before, and it was exposed by the media.]

[Their relationship must be complicated.]

[Did they secretly date before? Did Kevin dump Elizabeth?]

[Doesn't seem like it. Kevin has been the one approaching Elizabeth since the show started.]

[Elizabeth looks like she doesn't want to deal with him, not like someone who was dumped.]

[But there must be some relationship or conflict between them.]

[Media, go dig up the dirt.]

Among the viewers, there was indeed someone who ran an entertainment company.

Seeing the comments, they also thought the relationship between Elizabeth and Kevin could be worth digging into.

If they found something, it would definitely be a big scoop.

So they instructed their reporters to start investigating immediately.
