Chapter 233 We Were All Blind Before
Richard bolted outta the room, heart thumping like crazy. Last thing he needed was to be alone, ripe for Brenda's mind games. So, he dashed to Arnold and Kevin's rooms, banging on their doors like a madman, yelling for them to meet him in the garden.
Once he plopped down, he finally let out a big ol' sigh of relief.
Arnold noticed Richard was sweating bullets and looked like he'd seen a ghost.
"Dude, what's up with you? You look like you just saw a ghost," Arnold blurted out.
Richard twisted open a bottle of water he'd brought and chugged it like he'd been in the desert.
"It's worse than a ghost, man," he muttered.
Right then, Hubert's voice crackled from Richard's phone. "Richard, you good? What the heck happened? We heard you almost agreed."
Richard had almost forgotten he was still on a video call with Hubert. He yanked the phone from his shirt pocket and turned the camera back on himself.
"It was freakin' terrifying. If I hadn't gone through it myself, I wouldn't believe it," he said, still visibly shaken. "You all saw or heard what went down after I walked into that room. No wonder she wanted me to hold her or whatever. Turns out, after she touched me, she could use some kinda witchcraft on me."
He continued, voice a mix of anger and disbelief, "She grabbed my hand and asked for half of my Generational Blessings. I was fighting it, but my brain was like, 'Sure, give her anything.' I almost agreed. Thank God I had that Spellscroll from Elizabeth with Hubert. Before I could finish talking, my chest burned like hell, snapping me back to reality." He unbuttoned his shirt collar, showing a string now in ashes. "Look, the Spellscroll kicked in, broke Brenda's spell, and burned itself up. Lucky I ran fast; who knows if I'd fall for it again."
Richard took a deep breath, trying to calm down. Hubert, still on the call, sounded serious. "We knew something was off with you; turns out you were under a spell."
Eugene frowned and asked, "Does she really have those kinda powers?"
He had just witnessed a completely different side of Brenda. She was no longer the sweet, innocent girl she once was. Today, she was dressed provocatively and speaking shamelessly to Richard.
Richard took another deep breath. "I dunno if she's got special powers. Did anyone record that?"
Hubert chimed in, "I did. When you walked in and saw Brenda lying there dressed like that, I knew something was up and hit record."
Richard sighed in relief. "Smart move. Send that video to the other group and let Elizabeth check it out. I'm not going back to that room. I need to buy two more Spellscrolls from Elizabeth." The Spellscroll had worked like a charm. Even though he used to think the price was nuts—$2.5 million for a Spellscroll—it now felt worth every penny.
Hubert touched the Spellscroll on his chest, feeling way safer. "Man, this thing really works. Good thing I was smart back then. You're lucky I bought it that day; otherwise, your Generational Blessings would be history."
He sighed deeply and continued, "Brenda's ruthless, straight-up asking for half of your Generational Blessings."
Richard used to spoil Brenda like crazy. Whenever they went out, he'd shower her with gifts. Whenever she had a problem, the Clark brothers would jump to protect her. And now, this was the thanks they got. Pretty sad, huh?
Richard, looking dark and brooding, nodded. "Exactly. Even though I've been cautious around her lately, I never really hurt her. I loved her for over a decade, and this is what I get. It's ridiculous. She wanted half of my Generational Blessings just like that. She didn't even think about what would happen to me without them. Clearly, she holds a serious grudge. She only remembers the bad stuff, not the good."
Hubert chimed in, "That's how she is with you guys. She thinks your love and efforts are her birthright. Once you take them back, she feels wronged and resents you."
He joked, "She left you with half of your Generational Blessings. Is she planning to fatten you up and take the rest later?"
Richard, annoyed, snapped, "Get lost. You're the one being fattened up."
Hubert remembered what Elizabeth said about fattening up the pig before slaughtering it.
Richard cautioned, "Stop talking nonsense and send the video to the group. I'm hanging up now."
Hubert, serious about the task, said, "Got it!" After hanging up, he sent the video to the group.
On Richard's side, Arnold and Kevin were staring at him, eyes wide with shock. "Richard, what exactly happened?" they asked, even though they had a rough idea from the earlier convo.
Richard recounted what had gone down in the room, then played the video Hubert had sent.
After watching, Arnold and Kevin both shivered. When Richard first entered the room, they saw Brenda's seductive behavior, which they hadn't expected. It completely shattered their perception of Brenda.
Kevin muttered, "So this is the real her. She's been acting all kind and innocent with us."
He sarcastically added, "No wonder she wants to get into the entertainment industry; her acting skills are top-notch."
Arnold agreed, "Yeah, those looks and actions in the video were really over the top. I never thought the Brenda we loved for so many years would have such a true side. And the last part was really creepy. Richard almost fell for it."
Because Brenda had asked them for Generational Blessings before, they had believed Richard's words. However, they hadn't felt it so directly. Now they were completely convinced and found Brenda terrifying.
Richard sneered, "We were all blind before."
Arnold thought for a moment and asked, "Could it be that our unconditional love for her in the past was also due to some spell?"
Richard and Kevin nodded, feeling like they had found the reason. "It's not impossible."
Richard said, "I'll ask Elizabeth about it later."
He tagged Elizabeth in the group, asking her to watch the video and see if she knew what was going on.
