Chapter 79 I Knew It, It's Not That Simple
Rebecca was always up for a thrill.
"This idea is great," she said. "Our studio needs to grow, but we can't compete directly with other big entertainment companies right now. Poaching their people isn't smart; they might team up against us."
"But if we take on artists that Clark Entertainment has dropped or suppressed," she kept on her analyse, "people might think you're just being impulsive to spite your brothers. No one will be alert, and Loren and Richard will probably laugh it off. They won't see us as a threat."
"Given their arrogance, they won't try to sabotage the people we poach at first. They want to see you fail after paying high effort, so they can mock you, or offer you a contract to return. By the time they realize our success, it'll be too late for them to stop us." She smiled, nudging her friend by the shoulder.
Elizabeth smiled knowingly. "You get me."
Her thoughts matched Rebecca's exactly.
Elizabeth continued, "Once we poach the veteran operations team from Clark Entertainment, we can start targeting their artists."
"We'll look for artists with potential and good character who have been abandoned or suppressed. But we can't take too many at once." Elizabeth cautioned, "Let's start with two to four. We'll do it quietly, and they shouldn't mention they're joining our studio. Loren and Richard might still try to make things difficult."
Especially since she had just angered Richard, and he was still holding a grudge.
The best plan was to announce it after successfully poaching the people.
Rebecca nodded. "We're really in sync. I was thinking the same thing."
She and Elizabeth were always on the same wavelength, whether in life, thoughts, or work.
That's why they wanted to be lifelong friends who could trust each other completely.
"When you go to the next live variety show, I'll check out the film academy for promising newcomers. We can also invest in our own productions."
Rebecca said, "I have some money saved up. I can invest in the studio."
She added generously, "I'll support you all the way."
Even though their mother Amy was biased and didn't like them, they had grown up with their grandfather Gary.
Before Gary passed away, he had left six percent of the shares evenly divided among the she and her brother.
When Eugene returned to Clifftonshireburg for school, Amy had won him over. Wanting a harmonious family, he invited Gary back, which angered Gary. So, Gary only gave him the shares.
In the end, all the antiques Gary had collected and the assets not belonging to the Baker company were given to her.
He had said that even if she wanted to leave the family one day, she would still have money.
As for Percy and the other cousins, Gary left them nothing.
It served them right, as they had distanced themselves from Gary because of Janet over the years.
After Gary passed away and she returned to the Baker family, she had the confidence and strength to go against Amy and the others because of what Gary had left her.
The rest of the Baker family was extremely jealous and coveted her shares.
Even Amy constantly hinted, both openly and subtly.
Not only did she want her to give the shares to Percy, but she also wanted the antiques Gary had left her.
She had pretended not to understand and ignored her, sometimes snapping back when annoyed.
She wasn't like Eugene, who was easily swayed by a bit of motherly affection.
Because of this, Amy disliked her even more.
But Amy couldn't let go of what she had, so she kept asking her to come home while scolding her.
Every year, she got dividends from the Baker company shares.
After going abroad, she worked at Hubert's firm, immersing herself in a whirlwind of tasks day in, day out. Her schedule brimmed with activity, leaving scant room for leisure or even the inclination to splurge her hard-earned cash.
So now she had million dollars saved up.
Elizabeth knew Rebecca had money and joked, "Alright, we'll count on you to support us."
She would also work hard to make money and invest in the studio.
Elizabeth had invested some of her money in the stock market; she planned to take on the amulet-selling again, which would help her make connections and earn money at the same time.
Thinking of this, she reminded Rebecca, "Several of the antiques your grandfather Gary left behind have a lucky aura and can be used as excellent amulets. Don't sell them."
Rebecca nodded. "Don't worry. I've stored them all in a bank. Besides, I have plenty of money, so I won't sell them. If I kept them at home, they'd probably be gone by now. Amy and the others are all eyeing them. Especially Amy, she wants the antiques more than my shares. I don't even know what she wants them for."
She shook her head helplessly. "Look, she even wants this bracelet I'm wearing. She hinted several times that she liked it and wanted me to give it to her. I pretended not to hear, so she went to Eugene and hinted that she liked it. That fool Eugene came to me and said, 'It's just a bracelet, if mom wants it, give it to her.' I was so mad. This bracelet was specially made for me by my grandfather, and he told me to always wear it before he passed away. How could I give it to Amy?"
Elizabeth's gaze fell on the bracelet on Rebecca's wrist.
In the past, she couldn't see the true value of this bracelet.
But after visiting a world focused on divination, her skills in this area had improved significantly.
Now she could see it at a glance.
She reminded, "This is a very powerful protective bracelet. It can ward off disasters and save your life in critical moments. No wonder she wants it."
She also wore a pendant around her neck, given by Wayne, with the same effect as the bracelet.
Rebecca smiled self-deprecatingly. "I knew it wasn't that simple. Amy usually only wears top-tier jewelry and limited-edition luxury bracelets. How could she like this bracelet?"
Elizabeth thought for a moment and asked, "Does Amy understand divination tools?"
Rebecca shook her head. "Probably not. She does like to collect antiques, though, and has had my dad buy quite a few at auctions. But after buying them, she doesn't seem to cherish them much, and when she doesn't like them anymore, she just piles them up in a room. I overheard her two assistants saying she gave quite a few away. I don't know who she gave them to."
Elizabeth reminded, "If you go back, pay attention to this. Many antiques can be used as divination tools, and her buying them to give away doesn't seem that simple."
Rebecca hadn't paid much attention to these things before.
Now, hearing this, she also felt something was off.
"Alright, I'll be careful next time, and I'll quietly have the butler keep an eye on her."
The butler was Gary's man and had secretly protected and helped her a lot.
Elizabeth nodded. "Yes, but be careful."
