Chapter 186 This Is My Answer
Overwhelmed by his longing for Elizabeth, Eugene couldn't resist the urge to come here.
He just wanted to say a few words to her.
He wanted to ask her if, even if they couldn’t get back together, they could still regain their friendship.
He would try his best to win her back.
When Eugene reached this floor, he happened to see Elizabeth coming out of her room.
He happily walked over, but to his surprise, she went to knock on another room's door.
He thought it might be Raymond or Gilbert's room.
However, he never expected that the person who opened the door would be Percy.
Eugene was confused..
Elizabeth and Percy had never met before; how did they know each other?
And why was Percy here?
Eugene couldn't hold back and rushed over before Elizabeth could enter the room.
"Wait!"
This shout made both Percy and Elizabeth look at Eugene.
Both were surprised. "What are you doing here?"
Eugene glared at Percy and asked angrily, "I should be asking you that. What are you doing here? What is your relationship with Elizabeth?"
It was the first time Percy had seen Eugene so out of control.
He smiled. "Does it concern you?"
It seemed Eugene's feelings for Elizabeth were deeper than everyone thought.
Eugene's eyes were red. "Percy, if you want to target me, go ahead. But don't go after Elizabeth, or I won't let you off."
While he and Percy weren't particularly close, they managed to maintain a good relationship on the surface.
This was the first time they had been so at odds.
Percy found it both amusing and exasperating. "And how exactly won't you let me off?"
In his eyes, Eugene was still so naive.
He was so well-protected by the Baker family that Percy couldn't help but feel a bit envious.
Eugene frowned. "I'll quit the entertainment industry and join the company to compete with you for the heir position. Do you think that's enough?"
He was very afraid that Percy would target Elizabeth because of him.
Percy retained a gentle smile and responded, "Eugene, you're oversimplifying things."
Setting aside other factors, did Eugene think he could compete with him just by quitting the entertainment industry and joining the company?
He continued, "You can do that if you want."
After all, the Baker Group would likely be Eugene's in the future.
Whether he joined the company sooner or later didn't make much difference.
He then added with a smile, "As long as Dad agrees, you're welcome to compete anytime."
However, given Orlando's cautiousness and his protective nature towards Eugene, he definitely wouldn't agree to Eugene joining the company now.
Eugene laughed self-deprecatingly. "Yeah, Dad would never agree. You're their precious son."
He added, "But I'll give it a shot."
He had no interest in business, but if it was for Elizabeth, he would be willing to try.
Percy smiled. "Then good luck!"
Eugene and Rebecca always thought he was overly favored and pampered by their parents.
But he really didn't want such pampering!
After finishing speaking, Eugene looked at Elizabeth. "Elizabeth, he's up to no good to approach you. Don't be fooled."
Elizabeth didn't like the way Eugene was looking at her now.
It was as if he could do anything for her and sacrifice anything for her.
She found it both ridiculous and ironic.
She raised an eyebrow and asked, "Does this have anything to do with you? Moreover, do you think I can't even tell right from wrong?"
Seeing her displeasure, Eugene immediately said, "I didn't mean that. I just wanted to remind you."
Elizabeth couldn't be bothered to argue with him. "I know now. You can go."
But Eugene didn't move. "I have something to say to you."
Elizabeth smelled a strong scent of alcohol on Eugene and saw his red eyes, indicating he was drunk.
She knew that if she didn't let him finish, he wouldn't leave.
With important matters demanding her attention, she replied curtly, "Go ahead."
Eugene glanced warily at Percy and said to her, "Can we talk somewhere else?"
Elizabeth showed an impatient expression. "No, if you have something to say, say it here quickly. If not, leave."
Hearing this, Eugene felt very hurt and bitter.
She used to be so patient with him, but now she was impatient even to say a few more words.
Knowing her temper, he could only speak in front of Percy, "I did wrong before. I shouldn't have interacted with Brenda privately because of my mom and chosen to help her over you. I won't have any more contact with her in the future. I know you won't forgive me. But can you give me another chance?"
He looked at Elizabeth with hopeful and pleading eyes. "Even if we can't be lovers, can we at least be friends again?"
Elizabeth looked at him with a disdainful look. "Can't be lovers, but be friends again? Do you think that's possible? After you deceived and abandoned me, there's no way I can continue to associate with you."
She continued decisively, "We can't even be friends. That's my answer."
Eugene looked hurt. "We grew up together! When we were kids, I held your hand every day, took you to school, took you to..."
Before he could finish, Elizabeth interrupted him, "Enough. What's the point of reminiscing now? Eugene, why don't you understand?"
She sighed, "It's precisely because those times were so beautiful and I cared so much. That's why I was so hurt and can't forgive or go back."
The more she cared, the less she was able to tolerate the betrayal and abandonment.
That was why in the past life, when Eugene abandoned her, she felt so much pain.
"The past is behind us, and I have no intention of revisiting it. Do you understand now?"
She added coldly, "We can never go back to what we were, and there's no future for us."
Eugene was so devastated that he took two steps back, looking even more dazed.
Elizabeth didn't care about him and said to Percy, "Let's go in."
"Alright!" Percy gave Eugene a sympathetic look, but he quickly withdrew his sympathy.
He thought self-deprecatingly, who was he to sympathize with others?
He and Elizabeth entered the room and closed the door.
Shutting out Eugene's suddenly raised gaze.
After entering, Percy thought for a moment and asked Elizabeth for Arthur's phone number.
Then, using his identity as Eugene's brother, he contacted Arthur.
He asked Arthur to send someone to take Eugene back to the hotel.
Eugene had drunk too much and was deeply hurt by Elizabeth. He was worried that something might happen to him after leaving.
After making the call, Elizabeth looked at Percy with some surprise.
She was indeed a bit surprised that he would call Arthur to arrange for someone to come over.
He really looked like a good brother who cared about Eugene.
She didn't know if he was acting or sincere.
No wonder Rebecca, although she disliked Percy, only said he was hypocritical but didn't actually hate or detest him.
Rebecca hated Amy.
Eugene, too, didn't seem to hate Percy and hadn't even shown hostility before.
Percy saw Elizabeth's surprised and probing look and just smiled at her without explaining or saying anything.
Elizabeth didn't ask either.
This was a suite, and Eugene led Elizabeth into the innermost room.
Inside the room, Ryan and a pale-faced man in black with dark circles under his eyes were sitting face to face.
Hearing the door open, both turned their heads to look.
Elizabeth saw Samuel and showed a surprised expression. "It's you!"
