Chapter 319 Do They Take Any Action in Such Matters?
Eugene was looking at Brenda like he just met her, thinking, 'What's Brenda's deal?'
He frowned and said, "What's any of this got to do with Elizabeth? How can you drag her into this mess? You took her spot as the rich family's daughter for over a decade, played all sorts of games to mess with the Clark family, and pushed her out. Isn't that enough? Do you still have to keep going after her?
And from these three reality show episodes, wasn't it always you guys starting trouble with Elizabeth first, and she just clapped back? You're really good at throwing shade."
How could he have ever thought, just because Amy hyped up Brenda, that she was a good girl? He had to admit, just like the Clark brothers, he got played by her act. They were all blind.
Kevin chimed in coldly, "Brenda, this is between you and us brothers. Why drag Elizabeth into it? We've already hurt her so much for you, isn't that enough?
And do you really think we're dumb? After all the times you've tried to play us, you think we'll still buy your crap?"
His eyes were full of disappointment and coldness as he continued, "I never thought the Brenda we've loved for over a decade could be so fake."
He impatiently asked, "Can you stop causing drama?"
Facing all these accusations, Brenda's face changed. What she found hardest to swallow was that Eugene and Kevin, who used to back her up, were now siding with Elizabeth and calling her out. She had only said one thing about Elizabeth, but they had to roast her so much to protect Elizabeth. It was too much.
Especially the phrase "Can you stop causing drama?", which used to be aimed at Elizabeth; now it was all on her, making her feel so hurt and ready to cry.
Unable to hold back, she cried out, "You all bully me; you're too much."
At that moment, a nurse came out with a stern face and said, "This is a hospital, keep it down!"
After she spoke, everyone looked at Brenda with disapproval and disgust.
Kevin, with a dark expression, said, "Are you not satisfied with how badly Enrique is hurt? Do you want him to suffer more? Either shut up or leave now."
He could see that Brenda wouldn't leave; she had thick skin, so he could only make her shut up.
He guessed that Brenda might still be hoping that Enrique would be sweet-talked by her and forgive her. If that was the case, let her face Enrique's response.
Brenda was furious but knew she had to suck it up. She wanted to wait for Enrique to come out, explain to him, and make him feel better. If she left now, she might really lose Enrique, the brother who truly loved her. So she walked to a spot not far away, sat down, and cried pitifully.
If it were before, the Clark brothers would have felt sorry for her. But now, whether it was Kevin on the scene or Richard and Arnold watching the live stream, they all felt like throwing her out.
Raymond, hearing Brenda's sobs, felt disgusted. He looked at Brenda with disdain and said, "Are you planning on flooding the room with those tears? You never stop crying. Crying from the first episode to the third, it's time to stop. No matter how much you cry, Kevin won't care, so what's the point? If you must cry, save it for when Enrique shows up and see if he falls for it."
This time, Kevin agreed, "Yeah, watching you cry now just annoys me. You should save your tears for when Enrique sees you and put on a show then. Right now, no one is watching, so crying is useless."
Their sarcastic words made Brenda unable to keep crying. How could Kevin be such a jerk? He didn't know how to show her any pity.
Brenda knew she couldn't outtalk them, so she bit her lip to stop herself from crying. This also made everyone present feel a sense of relief.
The viewers in the live stream were also speechless, continuing to curse in the comments.
No one knew how much time had passed when Enrique was finally pushed out.
Kevin rushed up to the doc and asked, "Doc, how's Enrique doing?"
The doctor replied, "His injuries are pretty bad. His ribs are busted up. The surgery went well, but he's gonna need to stay in bed for at least three to four months before he can even think about walking again. And he can never do any heavy lifting or strenuous stuff again."
He emphasized, "For the next six months, he needs to take it easy. If he gets hurt again, he might end up in a wheelchair for life."
Kevin let out a sigh of relief; the surgery was a success, and that was something. He said, "Okay, thanks, doc."
The group then followed to the ward.
After a bit, Enrique woke up.
The anesthesia was still working, so he only felt stiff and numb in his upper body, not much pain. As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw Brenda with puffy eyes rushing to his bedside.
Her face was full of concern. "Enrique, you're okay? That's great. I was so worried."
Seeing her tear-streaked face, Enrique felt disgusted. He said coldly, "I'm almost in a wheelchair, and that's okay? I'm not even dead yet, but you're crying like this. Anyone who didn't know would think you're mourning me."
Brenda's tearful, worried face froze instantly.
Raymond couldn't help but snicker, "No wonder you guys are brothers; you say the same stuff."
Kevin added, "Exactly."
Enrique looked at Kevin and said, "Didn't I say I didn't want to see her?"
Kevin shrugged. "She insisted on staying, saying she was too worried about you and wouldn't be at ease until she saw you come out safe and sound. I couldn't just throw her out. This is a hospital; that would be too uncivilized."
When they doted on Brenda, the Clark brothers treated her like a treasure. But once they started to dislike her, they could say anything.
Brenda didn't expect Kevin to become more and more heartless. So she decided that next time she needed Generational Blessings, she would go to him.
She looked at Enrique and explained, "Enrique, I was really worried about you. Earlier, I..."
But Enrique didn't want to hear it. "Don't bother with those explanations; it's unnecessary."
Brenda bit her lip and said, "I just don't want you to misunderstand. I only hope you get better. I also want to make up for the accident I caused before." This implied that she didn't mean to pull him down before.
She then quickly added, "I'll drop the upcoming reality show. I want to stay in the hospital to take care of you."
In the upcoming reality show, she would definitely face rejection and exclusion from all the guests.
There would surely be a lot of online criticism, and this time she couldn't clear her name. So she might as well not continue participating and stay in the hospital to take care of Enrique, hoping to win him back.
At that moment, Elizabeth interjected, "Are you here at the hospital to look after him, or are you just here to soak up his Generational Blessings?"
She looked at Enrique sympathetically and said, "He's already so unlucky and miserable. And you still want to latch onto him to absorb Generational Blessings?"
Having willingly relinquished the leverage, Brenda unwittingly paved the way for Elizabeth to step in and expose the truth.
To the unknowing observer, it might have seemed as though Elizabeth couldn't bear to see Enrique suffer and thus offered a reminder. In reality, she simply aimed to exacerbate Enrique's misery. Additionally, this cut off any chance for Brenda to continue siphoning his Generational Blessings.
She also wanted to remind the other brothers to be careful and not accept anything from Brenda, to avoid being drained of Generational Blessings. Otherwise, Brenda constantly replenishing her Generational Blessings would not be good for her.
Of course, besides this, she also wanted to pressure the people behind Brenda. Would the Divination Association intervene in Brenda's forceful absorption of Generational Blessings if she exposed it publicly?
