Chapter 82 Winning Herman's Support
Elizabeth and Rebecca were cooking in the apartment.
Seeing an unknown number, she knew it was Herman.
She answered, "Hello!"
Herman said, "Ms. Clark, it's me."
Elizabeth asked, "Did you find the answer?"
Herman, hearing her calm tone, was even more impressed.
"Did you foresee everything tonight, Ms. Clark?" Herman asked.
Elizabeth replied, "Not exactly. I just sensed you were in trouble with a bad woman and a bad man. They teamed up against you. I figured tonight was your best chance to uncover the truth. That's why I suggested it."
She couldn't predict the future but had a rough idea: Helen cheating, conspiring against him, and more plots.
But men's pride was strong; since they'd be colleagues, there was no need to spell it out.
Herman sighed in relief.
He asked, "Ms. Clark, are you really going to take revenge on the Clark brothers and seize their resources?"
He wanted to confirm to solidify his resolve.
Elizabeth replied, "Of course. Why else would I poach your team? The Clark brothers are arrogant and sidelined you despite your talent. I want to bring you over, make our studio bigger, and show everyone they don't know how to use talent, but I do. This will strengthen my studio and humiliate them."
"In the future, I'll make sure the Clark Group often falls behind. Constantly exposing them, isn't that satisfying? And it will make the shareholders doubt Loren's ability. If he can't manage an entertainment company, how can he take over the Clark Group?" She then asked, "So Herman, will you join my studio and help expose the Clark brothers?"
Herman knew she was serious; she had thought this far ahead.
This wasn't just about exposing the Clark brothers; she wanted to pull Loren down from his position as heir.
He had to admit, her words hit home.
He also wanted to expose the Clark brothers and Alvin; let Loren know Alvin was no match for them.
At that moment, he felt a sense of camaraderie with Elizabeth.
"Alright, as long as you are committed to what you just said, I'll bring my team over."
Elizabeth smiled. "Welcome on board, Herman."
They exchanged a few pleasantries.
Herman then said, "But there's a problem. They want the info and resources I have. If I leave with my team without handing these over, the company won't let us go."
Otherwise, they wouldn't have used such dirty tactics against him.
"If we forcefully resign, the higher-ups at Clark Entertainment will spread rumors, saying we're incompetent. Then we'll be blacklisted, making it impossible to survive in the industry. If they find out we're joining your studio, they might target you too."
Elizabeth replied confidently, "You think I'd be scared? They tried to ban me before, but I only got more popular. As long as we're strong, their words are just noise."
Herman was initially stunned, then relieved. "You're right. So we should just resign forcefully?"
Elizabeth asked, "Since you got answers tonight, you must have some leverage against them, right?"
Herman wasn't impulsive, so he must have some leverage. This made Herman think even more highly of Elizabeth. Everything was within her expectations.
"Yes, I did get some leverage," Herman replied.
Elizabeth suggested, "Then go to Loren tomorrow and show him the leverage. Threaten to expose their secrets if you can't leave smoothly. You're in operations and PR; they wouldn't dare let you do that. Loren cares most about his reputation. This way, you can leave with dignity and take your info and resources with you. Once you're out, if they try to ban you and find out you've joined my studio, they'll be helpless. I won't pay them any mind, and it'll make them angry."
Herman thought it over and agreed. He had been considering whether to release the recording but feared the Clark brothers would ban him and his team. Now that Elizabeth wasn't afraid, he had nothing to fear either. At worst, he'd start over from scratch. To vent his anger, he was willing to take the risk.
"Alright, I'll go find Loren tomorrow," Herman said.
They then discussed the details of resigning.
Elizabeth asked, "You should be familiar with the Clark Group's artists, right?"
Herman replied, "I know them pretty well. Why? Are we going to poach people?"
He was now completely thinking from the studio's perspective.
Elizabeth said, "Yes, but we don't need the high-profile ones; they wouldn't want to switch anyway. We need to develop quietly at first. Just poach the abandoned or suppressed artists with potential. Just like your team, talented but neglected. Giving you a new opportunity will surely lead to great achievements."
Herman liked this idea. "That's good. Poaching such artists won't alarm the Clark brothers for now. I've already copied the info and resources from my computer. I'll go home, organize a list, and send it to you. You can then select a few suitable ones, and I'll communicate with them before I leave."
This was also his way of showing loyalty to the studio. As long as Elizabeth could protect them, he would go against the Clark brothers to the end.
Elizabeth smiled. "Alright, thank you, Mr. Simmons."
After hanging up, they added each other as friends. Herman smoked a few cigarettes in the car before driving home.
When he got home, his mother, Carol Martinez, mentioned his wife, saying she was worried about her coming home too late and asked him to pick her up.
Seeing his son already asleep, Herman played the recording for his mom. He couldn't let Carol be deceived by Helen's acting anymore.
After listening to the recording, Carol was furious. "Divorce, you must divorce her immediately."
Herman squinted his eyes and said, "Not only will I divorce her, but I'll also make her pay."
