Chapter 205 Absolutely Not
Paul had just finished his meeting and stepped out. The secretary mentioned that Enrique had gone to visit some nearby attractions.
He didn't doubt it, knowing Enrique could never sit still for long. Shortly after, his phone rang. Seeing it was an unfamiliar but domestic number, he hesitated momentarily before answering.
To his surprise, Kevin's voice came through the line. "Dad, do you have a moment?"
Paul was caught off guard. "Yes. What's up?"
Kevin said with a tone of helplessness, "There's a bit of a situation. Enrique just came to find Arnold and me, asking us to help take care of Brenda. But we're still in the middle of a live show, and we had a bit of a disagreement earlier, so it's inconvenient for us to go. But Enrique is insistent, so we had no choice but to call you."
He added pointedly, "Didn't you take Enrique away earlier? How did he end up in Veridiania?"
Paul's expression immediately turned sullen when he realized that Enrique's supposed trip for relaxation had actually led him to Veridiania, likely with the intention of seeing Brenda. Not only did he go to take care of her, but he also dragged his other two sons into the mess.
He asked, "Did he go to the hospital to take care of Brenda?"
Kevin sighed. "Yes, he said he specifically came to take care of Brenda. He even scolded Arnold and me, blaming us for not taking good care of Brenda and calling us heartless." He wasn't making it up; these were Enrique's exact words.
Paul frowned and asked, "Doesn't he know what happened a few days ago?" He had been very busy and hadn't had a chance to tell Enrique.
Arnold interjected, "He knows. Brenda told him everything. But he thinks Brenda is innocent and blames us for being heartless and excessive."
Enrique was gloating and blaming them, so they surely spoke ill of him in front of Paul.
Paul's face darkened even more. "That idiot. How could he be so blind to the truth? Why doesn't he show the same concern for Elizabeth? Elizabeth is the real victim here, yet he runs off to comfort and take care of Brenda," he scolded angrily.
Arnold sighed. "Exactly, and he even blamed me too."
Paul couldn't let Enrique continue like this. In the past, he hadn't disciplined his sons much, which led to them being manipulated by Brenda.
He snapped, "Keep an eye on Enrique. If he causes trouble for Elizabeth because of Brenda, pull him away immediately."
He emphasized, "I'll send someone over tomorrow to bring both him and Brenda back."
To prevent Brenda from instigating Enrique and causing more trouble, it was best to send them both back together.
Relieved, Kevin and Arnold nodded in agreement. "Got it, Dad." Paul didn't disappoint them. They could only pray for Enrique now.
Paul ended the call and decided to contact Betty. He told her about Enrique deceiving his secretary and sneaking off to Veridiania to find Brenda. He asked Betty to personally go to Veridiania the next day with his assistant to bring them both back.
Once Brenda was back, he wanted Betty to keep a close eye on her to prevent any more trouble.
As for Enrique, he would deal with him once he was back.
Betty had not anticipated that Brenda would reach out to Amy and subsequently convince Enrique to secretly go to Veridiania. This development left Betty feeling particularly unhappy and reluctant to join them on this endeavor. However, due to Paul's insistence, she felt compelled to agree despite her reservations.
Once they were back, she would make sure Brenda learned some proper manners.
Enrique returned to the ward alone, and Brenda was disappointed.
She asked pitifully, "Enrique, where are Arnold and Kevin? Didn't they come with you? Are they still unwilling to forgive me?"
Enrique sat down and comforted her, saying, "No, one has a stomachache, and the other has a sore throat so that they couldn't come today. They promised me they would come to see you tomorrow."
Brenda finally felt at ease and snuggled into Enrique's arms. She hugged his waist tightly and nuzzled his shoulder. "Thank you, Enrique!" she whispered.
Enrique thought for a moment and said, "Arnold will talk to the director tomorrow about having me as a guest on the next episode of the live show."
Brenda was taken aback. "What? Arnold wants to switch?"
Her resentment grew. What did Arnold mean by this? Did he not want to be on the show with her? He was such a petty man.
Enrique smiled. "It was my idea. Arnold and Kevin can't take good care of you, and I don't feel comfortable. So I asked him to talk to the director. Of course, if you don't participate in the next episode, then I won't either."
These words moved Brenda; Enrique truly cared for her the most. She replied sweetly, "I want to participate in the next episode; I want to see it through to the end. As long as my injury heals, I'll participate."
She drew circles on Enrique's chest and muttered, "I'll rely on you to take care of me then."
Enrique looked down at her indulgently, "Alright, I'll take good care of you."
Brenda's ward was a single room with only one bed. Enrique had planned to make do with a chair for the night.
However, Brenda said she couldn't bear to see him uncomfortable and pulled him onto the bed with her.
After lying down, Brenda snuggled into Enrique's arms.
Enrique's body stiffened. Since growing up, he hadn't been this close to Brenda. Now, holding the soft and fragrant Brenda, he felt a bit strange.
But he was exhausted from the day and soon fell asleep.
Feeling Enrique's steady breathing, Brenda opened her eyes and smiled smugly.
The next day, Elizabeth's group continued their outing.
Enrique also woke up in the ward.
Due to the small size of the bed, Enrique had spent the entire night being cautious and careful while holding Brenda. As a result, his entire body felt sore and uncomfortable.
After freshening up, he called Kevin and Arnold. They told him they were busy with the live show and couldn't come until the evening.
Enrique was speechless and had to take care of Brenda by himself.
In the afternoon, after finishing their tasks at the attractions, Elizabeth's group went to a famous restaurant for afternoon tea.
Enrique saw how relaxed and comfortable Elizabeth was, while Brenda was lying in bed, complaining about her pain. This discrepancy made him feel uneasy. He decided to have a conversation with Elizabeth, asking her to cease making things more challenging for Brenda.
After changing into a different outfit in the bathroom, Enrique said, "Brenda, I'm going out for a bit. I'll bring back your favorite cake."
Brenda noticed that Enrique was watching Elizabeth's livestream. She guessed he might be going to confront Elizabeth for her. She was naturally pleased to see this.
As the relationship between the Clark brothers and Elizabeth continued to deteriorate, the chances of a reconciliation seemed increasingly unlikely. This state of affairs worked in her favor. So she said sweetly, "Alright, Enrique, you go ahead."
Enrique left the hospital and called Arnold, saying he was going to the restaurant to find Elizabeth, asking if they wanted to join him.
Arnold and Kevin glanced at each other, unified in their silent agreement: absolutely not.
If Enrique went and got scolded by Elizabeth, he might not want to participate in the next episode of the live show. Moreover, Paul had instructed them not to let Enrique cause trouble for Elizabeth. So they agreed to go as well.
