Chapter 362 I Learned It All from You
Paul used to think Betty was just being unreasonable, but he never thought there were other factors at play.
He sighed, "No wonder she's been acting weird lately. It's all Mrs. Baker's fault."
Elizabeth nodded. "She was already unhappy with me, so she fell right into the trap."
Paul felt a bit awkward, but he knew Elizabeth was right. Betty really cared about her dignity, especially around the Clark family.
The kids' antics at home had embarrassed her a few times, and then she got called to the Clark Villa where his parents scolded her in front of everyone. So yeah, Betty had some resentment towards Elizabeth. But it had never been this bad before. If Amy hadn't stirred things up, Betty probably would've calmed down by now.
He didn't know what to say. It hurt knowing Elizabeth was aware of everything, and her relationship with Betty was getting worse. With everything that had happened, it seemed impossible for them to patch things up.
He decided to change the subject. "Elizabeth, is there any way to fix this?"
Elizabeth shook her head. "It's because of a perfume, and there's no way to fix it. If she stays away from Mrs. Baker, she'll get better. You should take her to the hospital for a check-up. They should find something in her system."
She said this to make Paul keep Betty away from Amy and get her checked out, so Betty would realize she was being manipulated and confront Amy.
Paul nodded. "Got it."
Whether Betty liked it or not, he couldn't let her keep hanging out with Amy. Amy was nothing but trouble. Orlando's reputation had taken a hit because of the King Family's issues, and even the Baker company's stock price had dropped. He didn't want to end up like Orlando.
The car pulled up to the entrance of Aevum City. After Elizabeth declined their offer to escort them inside, she and Zachary got out and left.
Once they were inside the city, Zachary said to Elizabeth, "I'll take you back to the hotel."
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow. "Are you worried the people behind Brenda will come after me in Aevum City? Or do you want to let them know you went to the hospital tonight to help Enrique break the spell?"
Knowing Amy, she probably wouldn't visit Enrique, so it seemed like someone was instructing her to gather info at the hospital.
Zachary found her as sharp as ever. "A bit of both."
The reason he had Elizabeth manipulate those two lights today was to show everyone that his relationship with her was real, not just an act. This way, if anyone thought about targeting Elizabeth in the future, they'd think twice.
He wasn't sure at first that his chance to regain freedom would come through Elizabeth, but after spending time with her, he had a feeling. It was definitely her. So, whether it was because of her charm or her importance, he really hoped she wouldn't get hurt.
He changed the topic as he asked, "When are you leaving?"
Elizabeth replied, "The day after tomorrow."
Tomorrow, she was looking forward to the showdown between Betty and Amy.
Zachary could read her mind. "So, how are you planning to watch them go at it?"
Elizabeth laughed. "Are you that curious too?"
Zachary grinned, "Gotta stay in the loop. Plus, if you were stuck here for hundreds of years, you'd be curious too."
Elizabeth chuckled, "Alright, I'll come find you tomorrow and we can watch together."
She planned to hack into Betty's phone, start a live video, and watch the drama unfold. Since Zachary was interested, she'd bring him along for the show.
Zachary nodded, satisfied. "Sounds good, I'll be waiting!"
As they reached the hotel entrance, Elizabeth said, "Zachary, you deliberately used up half of Enrique's Generational Blessings, didn't you?"
With Zachary's power, he could've broken Brenda's curse and reclaimed the Generational Blessings. But she noticed he didn't protect them much on the way back, letting them scatter so only half returned to Enrique.
Zachary smiled. "With your skills, you noticed and could've protected him, but you didn't either, right?"
Elizabeth smiled back. "I don't like him, so I didn't bother."
Zachary said, "I don't like him either, so I didn't bother protecting him."
He had deliberately held back, letting Enrique continue to suffer from bad luck.
Elizabeth gave him a thumbs up. "You're pretty bad."
Zachary raised an eyebrow. "I learned from the best."
Elizabeth rolled her eyes. "Nonsense!"
After a few playful exchanges, Elizabeth went back to the hotel. Zachary headed back to his home.
A while later, an old man walked up to the courtyard gate and knocked. "I'd like to speak with Mr. Murphy, please."
Zachary amplified his voice with his energy. "I promised not to interfere in your matters back then, and I won't. I also warned you that doing those things would bring a curse. I just hope you can handle it in the future. Elizabeth is under my protection. Anyone who dares to touch her in Aevum City will die." Outside Aevum City, he couldn't intervene even if he wanted to.
Finally, he snorted, "Leave."
"Yes!" The elder kept a respectful demeanor, though he was unconvinced inside. If they could live as long as he did, they wouldn't need to do such things. As for the curse, they just needed to find a way around it. They had been doing this for years without any issues.
But he only dared to complain inwardly, not showing any sign of it on his face. After confirming that Zachary still upheld his old promise, he left reassured.
At the same time, he gave up on dealing with Elizabeth in Aevum City. Elizabeth had been constantly sabotaging his plans, causing him to suffer backlash. This time, it even led to a significant loss of his Generational Blessings and life force.
Once outside Aevum City, he not only wanted to reclaim what was his but also teach Elizabeth a lesson. It was a pity that, due to Zachary's warning, he couldn't kill her for now.
He squinted his eyes, but he could still use someone else to take out Elizabeth.
Meanwhile, Paul took Kevin back to the hospital room. Enrique was lying down, while Betty was beside him, constantly complaining about how awful Elizabeth and Kevin were. He was already feeling miserable, and now he was even more overwhelmed. So when he saw Paul come in, it was like seeing a lifeline.
