Chapter 357 You Want to Take Something?
Paul didn't waste any time and took Kevin straight to Aevum City. He had thought about asking Zachary for help before, but Zachary didn't seem too keen on it. So, he had his people search everywhere for rare herbs. He had heard that master fortune-tellers were quite interested in them.
Since he happened to bring it from Clifftonshireburg this time, he decided to deliver it. Paul knew the head of the Divination Association, so he asked around and finally found Zachary's place.
Just as he was about to knock on the door, it swung open by itself, giving them both a start. There was no one there, so they had no clue how it happened.
Then they heard Zachary's voice, "You can come straight in."
They were even more surprised. Was this the legendary voice transmission? They were even more impressed by Zachary's skills. They walked in carrying several wooden boxes and found Zachary chilling in a chair, reading a book.
Zachary put down his book when they came in. He looked at Paul and Kevin and said, "You're here about that issue, right?"
He thought to himself that Elizabeth was really crafty. She had quickly come up with a plan to make the Clark family visit again. According to his calculations, the Clark family should have gone back to Clifftonshireburg first and consulted other fortune-tellers to help Enrique. Only after those efforts failed would they have come back to Aevum City for his help, which would have taken at least another month.
It was clear that Elizabeth wanted Brenda to suffer more, but since he had promised her, he wouldn't refuse.
Paul smiled and said, "Nothing gets past you, Mr. Murphy. We're here because we got some news that might help counteract the backlash of your spell, so we came to ask."
Then he explained how Brenda was injured by an evil wizard and told him they had Brenda's hair and blood.
After discovering that Enrique had bought Brenda's hair and blood, he decided to be sure. He had someone take a strand of hair for a paternity test with Piper. The result showed a mother-daughter relationship, so he felt free to spill the beans to Zachary.
Then he asked, "Do you think now's the right time?"
Zachary looked at him and said, "You really think you're clever, huh?"
Paul felt a bit embarrassed and was about to explain, but Zachary cut him off, "Alright, for Elizabeth's sake, I'll help Enrique. I'll go to the hospital tonight. Just get some things ready."
Paul was thrilled and said, "Sure, just tell us what to get." He was happy but also a bit bitter. It was clear that if not for Elizabeth, Zachary wouldn't have helped Enrique at all.
Zachary wrote a list on a piece of paper and handed it to Paul. "Get everything on this list; you can find it all in Aevum City."
Paul took the list. "Got it!" Then he pushed the wooden boxes in front of Zachary. "Mr. Murphy, this is a small token of our appreciation. Hope you don't mind."
Zachary gave the box a quick glance and knew what was inside. "Alright."
Paul had wanted to chat with Zachary and build some rapport, but seeing Zachary pick up his book again, clearly not in the mood to talk, he stood up with Kevin. "Mr. Murphy, we'll head out now and come back later to pick you up!"
Zachary's eyes stayed on the book as he said coolly, "Alright, see you later."
He was very protective of his own people. Since he had taken a liking to Elizabeth, he naturally wasn't fond of the Clark family. If it weren't for Elizabeth's meddling, he wouldn't bother with them at all, so his attitude was pretty frosty.
After the Clark father and son left, Zachary thought for a moment and sent a message to Elizabeth.
Zachary: [I'm going to the hospital tonight. Want to come?]
Elizabeth saw the message and knew the Clarks had visited him.
Elizabeth: [I'll go.]
Zachary was incredibly powerful, and she wanted to see how he would lift the curse on Enrique.
Zachary looked at the items on the table and then replied: [The Clark family gave me some herbs. Want them?]
Elizabeth was interested; she could make a lot of potions but was short on good herbs. She replied: [You don't want them?]
Zachary: [Not really.]
Elizabeth was silent for a moment. So he was just giving her what he didn't want! But it made sense; Zachary had lived for over 800 years. Even though he couldn't leave Aevum City, he had plenty of time to collect good stuff.
Elizabeth: [Alright, if you don't want them, I'll take them. I don't mind at all.]
Paul was smart; the herbs he found for Zachary would definitely be useful for her potions.
She asked again: [Zachary, you must have a lot of good stuff, right?]
Zachary chuckled, typing: [Why, you want some?]
Elizabeth didn't beat around the bush as he responded: [Yeah, I do.]
These days, it was hard to find good stuff even if you had money. If she could get them for free, why not? She was being upfront, and she wouldn't really take his good stuff for free. The ritual method, which was very valuable to Zachary, could not only free him from his constraints but also help him reach the peak of high-level divination. It was essentially an exchange.
Zachary thought, 'Elizabeth is indeed straightforward.' But he liked her no-nonsense attitude. He hated people who wanted something but pretended otherwise.
Zachary: [The Gemstone Halo you have is already pretty eye-catching. If you carry more good stuff, you'll just be asking for trouble. Next time you come to Aevum City, I'll show you my vault.]
He couldn't leave Aevum City; otherwise, he would have loved to accompany her to Clifftonshireburg and see what it was like now. With him around, no one would dare mess with her. Unfortunately...
Elizabeth: [Alright, thanks, Zachary!]
Elizabeth thought it made sense; if she carried more good stuff, she'd be a target. Next time she came to Aevum City, she'd take Zachary up on his offer.
After recent interactions, she found that Zachary wasn't hard to get along with.
