Chapter 242 Contentment Is Good

Elizabeth caught Isaac giving her this deep, thoughtful look, as if he had something weighing heavily on his mind.

She couldn't help but ask, "Em, can I help you?"

Isaac took a moment, then said, "I had a buddy who died near the border recently. He reached out before he went MIA, but by the time we got there, he was gone. The spot where he vanished is close to that border jewelry market you're heading to. So, I was wondering if you could check if he's really dead. Alive or dead, we gotta find him."

Isaac's voice got all soft and sad. "Even if it's just his remains, we wanna bring him back."

When Elizabeth first walked in, she noticed Isaac had this vibe, like he'd seen some serious action. But he also had this righteous energy, like he was on the side of the angels. She figured he was some kind of special ops guy, taking out the bad guys and keeping folks safe. Now, hearing him talk about his buddy, she knew for sure—he was a soldier.

Elizabeth nodded, all serious. "No problem. When the time comes, bring something he used to wear or carry a lot. A photo would help too. When we get to where he disappeared, I'll use those to help with the divination."

Isaac nodded back. "Alright, I'll go with you to find him. I'll cover your fee."

Elizabeth shook her head and said softly, "For something like this, no need for payment. I wanna do my part for those who protect us and might give their lives."

In their line of work, revealing secrets was part of the gig, but diviners had their own rules to dodge any bad karma. They had to do good deeds and build up some good vibes. A lot of top-tier diviners would anonymously donate a chunk of their earnings to charity.

Elizabeth was no different—she'd already donated five million bucks from selling spell scrolls to a couple of medical foundations. She hoped that cash would help more poor patients get the treatment they needed.

Besides dodging bad karma, Elizabeth just wanted to do good and help as many people as she could.

Isaac, on the other hand, was ready to drop any amount of cash to find his missing buddy or at least bring back his remains. Elizabeth's genuine words only made him think more highly of her. He turned to her and said, "Alright, it's in your hands then!"

He'd just gotten back from a mission and had over a month off, so he could personally head to the border.

The convo shifted back to Matthew, who looked at Elizabeth and asked, "Elizabeth, if Rex stops wearing this gemstone ring, will the bad vibes go away? Will he still have bad luck?"

Elizabeth replied, "Even if he ditches the ring, a lot of the bad vibes have already seeped into him, so he'll still have some bad luck. But it won't be life-threatening."

Matthew pushed, "Is there any way to fix it?"

Elizabeth answered, "I can whip up a special protective spell scroll for him. It'll not only zap the bad vibes but also protect him. But it only lasts for three months. And one spell scroll costs two hundred and fifty grand. It's your call if you wanna buy it."

For custom spell scrolls that capture auras, Elizabeth had a flat rate—two hundred and fifty grand each.

Matthew and Rex, not short on cash, said in unison, "We'll take it!"

To get rid of the bad vibes and stay safe, two hundred and fifty thousand bucks was a steal.

Elizabeth nodded. "I'll whip it up for you now."

She snagged a bit of Rex's aura and crafted a protective spell scroll. After folding it, she threaded it with a string.

Handing it to Rex, she warned, "This spell scroll is water and fire-resistant. Keep it on you for three months, and the bad vibes will be gone. The bad luck will fade too. But because of what happened, the good fortune from your ancestors' protection won't come back. Things won't be as smooth as before, but they won't be too rough either."

Rex grinned, "As long as I'm safe, I'm good."

Elizabeth admired his attitude and smiled. "Being content is key."

Rex, worried about Matthew's safety, asked, "Can this spell scroll also protect someone without bad vibes?"

Elizabeth replied, "Yep, it can fend off one major crisis and three minor ones."

Rex said, "Then make one for Matthew too."

Matthew, thinking the same, added, "Yeah, I want one too."

Earning another two hundred and fifty grand? Elizabeth was all for it. She smiled. "Sure thing."

She crafted one for Matthew and handed it over.

Matthew took the spell scroll and, like Rex, hung it around his neck.

Whether it was the spell scroll's magic or just a placebo effect, he felt more secure wearing it.

He pressed further, "Elizabeth, is there a spell scroll that lasts longer? We're willing to pay more."

Elizabeth shook her head. "This type of protective spell scroll only lasts three months. But if you carve the spell into a gemstone, it'll last as long as the gem doesn't break while protecting you. So, when I hit up the border jewelry market with you, I plan to snag some gemstones to make gemstone protective spell scrolls."

Matthew lit up. "Can I pre-order a few of those gemstone spell scrolls?"

Elizabeth was cautious. "We'll see when the time comes. I might not be able to sell that many."

Matthew nodded, getting her point. "Alright."

Raymond, who'd been listening closely, chimed in, "Elizabeth, if you make some gemstone spell scrolls, I'd like to buy a few too."

He believed Elizabeth's gemstone spell scrolls would be super effective and wanted some for his family.

Elizabeth nodded at him. "Got it!"

She was generous with those close to her. After chatting a bit more, Raymond offered to drive Elizabeth home. When she got home, she heard her phone buzz. Pulling it out, she saw Richard had tagged her in a group chat.

Richard: [@Elizabeth I need to ask you something. Enrique's been acting super weird this past week, either eating or sleeping all the time. He looks really off, and I'm worried something's up.]

Richard: [Oh, and he started having bad luck yesterday.]
