Chapter 239 You're Surrounded by Bad Luck
Elizabeth felt eyes on her but decided to play it cool, sticking to her routine like nothing was up.
After the shoot, Raymond's phone buzzed. His agent had some news that shook him. "Alright, I'm on my way," he said, hanging up. Just then, he spotted Elizabeth leaving the changing room. A lightbulb went off in his head.
"Hey, Elizabeth, can I ask you a favor?" he called out.
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow. "What kind of favor?"
Raymond didn't beat around the bush. "A childhood friend of my brother, Mr. Ingram from our company, got into a car accident and is in the hospital. He's been having a rough patch, and I think something's off. Could you go check on him?"
Elizabeth smiled. "Sure, no biggie."
They then hopped in a car and headed to the hospital.
This place was swanky, with tight security and top-notch privacy. They masked up and made their way to the ward without any paparazzi hassle.
As they got to the door, Elizabeth felt a bad vibe.
Raymond pushed the door open, and inside were three people: Rex Ingram, the big boss of StarSpark Entertainment, looking pale and hooked up to an IV; a suave guy peeling an apple; and a tough-looking dude with a no-nonsense vibe.
Raymond led Elizabeth in, and all three heads turned their way.
Surprised to see Elizabeth, Rex wondered, 'Are they already a thing?'
Raymond was momentarily thrown off by the other two in the room.
He greeted the suave guy, "Hey, Matthew!"
Then he nodded at the tough guy. "Isaac."
Isaac's stern eyes softened a bit when he saw Raymond. He nodded and glanced at Elizabeth. "And who's this?" he asked.
Raymond grinned, "This is my friend Elizabeth, the one who saved my life." Pointing to the tough guy, he added, "Isaac, this is my third brother, Isaac Gonzalez. And this is Matthew Ingram." Then he gestured to the guy in bed. "And you know Rex, right?"
"Hey, everyone!" Elizabeth greeted with a friendly smile.
Isaac tried to soften his stern look and said to Elizabeth, "So you're Ms. Clark. Thanks for saving Raymond. Our family wanted to visit you, but Raymond insisted on repaying you himself, so we didn't want to intrude."
He explained why they hadn't come to thank her in person. They hadn't forgotten the favor, though.
Elizabeth waved it off. "It was nothing, really."
Isaac replied, "It's the least we could do."
Raymond, wanting to handle the thank-you himself, steered the conversation back to Rex.
"Rex, you've had a string of bad luck lately. I think something's up. That's why I brought Elizabeth to check on you," he remarked.
Rex looked puzzled. "What's wrong with me?" he asked.
Raymond answered, "I think you might be dealing with some bad juju or something."
Rex went quiet, realizing this was a different kind of problem. He remembered Elizabeth wasn't just Raymond's crush; she was also a divination whiz.
He'd been having a rough time lately but didn't think he was cursed or anything.
But he had to humor Raymond. And since Elizabeth was already here, it’d be rude to turn her away.
He smiled at Raymond. "Guess I haven't been a bad friend; you really care."
Then he turned to Elizabeth. "Could you check me out, Elizabeth? I don't feel anything wrong; it's just Raymond being overly worried."
Elizabeth's face got serious as she looked at Rex. She saw a dark aura around him, and his forehead was turning blue. "Your gut feeling isn't as sharp as Raymond's. You're surrounded by bad luck, and if you don't deal with it, things could get real ugly," she said.
Rex froze, shocked. "What do you mean 'bad luck'?"
Elizabeth nodded and laid it out, "Yeah, your forehead's turning black, which is a bad sign."
Rex was half-convinced and asked, "Am I really in that bad shape? Can you tell why?"
Elizabeth picked up on his aura and did some quick calculations. "Have you been unlucky for about two weeks? And lately, your sleep's been trash, full of nightmares. You wake up in the middle of the night, can't get energized during the day, feel tired but can't sleep. Today's car accident happened because you took a detour, right?"
Rex's eyes widened. "Yeah, everything you said is spot on."
Raymond and a few friends knew about his recent bad luck, so it wasn't surprising Elizabeth knew. But he hadn't told anyone about the nightmares, waking up, feeling tired during the day, and taking a detour today.
Elizabeth hit the nail on the head; it definitely wasn't guesswork. Now, he was getting nervous and asked, "So, you're saying all this stuff happening to me isn't normal?"
Elizabeth nodded. "Yeah, you've got a strong evil aura; someone's messing with you."
Then she saw Rex's forehead quickly turn black. Her expression changed, and she mumbled, "This is bad."
As soon as she said that, Rex, who had been talking, suddenly struggled to breathe, his face turning pale. He was in a life-threatening state.
Raymond and the others freaked out.
Elizabeth jumped into action, yanking out Rex's IV needle. She quickly pulled an exorcism spell scroll from her bag and put it in Rex's hand. She always carried a few of these for emergencies, and now it was go-time.
Instantly, the dark aura around Rex faded. His breathing steadied, and the blackness on his forehead started to disappear. Moments later, he was out of danger, his strength slowly coming back.
Rex was now a full believer in Elizabeth. He realized that if it weren't for her, he would've been a goner.
Still weak but relieved, Rex looked at Elizabeth with newfound respect. "What just happened? Was it something in the IV?"
