Chapter 327 Of Course She Had to Fight Back
As soon as Elizabeth left, everyone else followed. Kevin was left standing there, feeling awkward. He told the show staff, and they took the cameras away. Then he walked up to Betty and said, "Mom, if Elizabeth doesn't want to help, let's just drop it."
Betty glared at him, her face dark. "How can you be so stone-cold? Enrique's the one laid up in bed. You've been hanging around Elizabeth all this time, and all you've picked up is how to be icy and indifferent?" She couldn't help but take her frustration with Elizabeth out on Kevin.
Kevin was at a loss for words. "But Elizabeth has to be willing to lend a hand! We already owe her an apology. Why do you keep dragging her into this? Enrique's condition isn't her fault. Why don't you go find Brenda? If she could hurt Enrique, maybe she can help him too. The people behind her aren't simple."
He felt guilty towards Elizabeth and really didn't want to push her into anything.
Betty's face got even darker. "Kevin, are you saying I'm wrong? It wasn't my fault when Elizabeth got lost. I tried to make amends when she came back, but she wanted to cut ties and leave the Clark Family. So, I don't feel like I owe her any apologies."
She took a deep breath and went on, "I'm her biological mother, and she humiliated me in public. That's unfilial."
Kevin looked at her in disbelief. "Mom, how can you think that way? Didn't she leave because we pushed her too far? I think Dad is right; you should stop hanging out with Amy."
Betty had felt regret and guilt after Elizabeth left. She always said she wanted Elizabeth to come home. But Kevin now sensed that Betty harbored great resentment toward Elizabeth, as if she had forgotten how they once drove her away. Instead, Betty felt like Elizabeth had wronged her as a mother.
This kind of thinking was new for Betty. It only started after she got close to Amy.
Betty raised her hand and slapped Kevin several times, shouting, "You brat, now even you're trying to lecture me. I see you're getting worse by following Elizabeth around. Learning to talk back your elders, just like how Rebecca treats Amy now."
Kevin was stunned by the slaps. Then he got angry too. "You're being unreasonable. You refuse to listen to those of us who care about you, but you're willing to those with ulterior motives. Like Grandma always said, you're just just keep being stubborn." With that, he ignored Betty and stormed off.
Betty was so angry she stomped her foot. Her children were all against her; it was outrageous.
Kevin didn't go back to his room. He asked the staff and then ran to catch up with Elizabeth and the others.
At that moment, Elizabeth and the others were heading towards a busy area in Aevum City. She and Zachary were talking up front, with Eugene following behind. Kevin caught up and walked beside Eugene.
Eugene glanced at him, asking, "Did you handle Betty's situation?"
Kevin looked exasperated. "No, it's impossible to handle."
He pulled Eugene away from some cameras. In a low voice, he asked, "How are things between you and your mom now?"
Eugene was puzzled. "Why are you asking?"
Kevin didn't hold back. "Your mom and my mom are really close now. My dad said they used to meet up every day. My mom used to feel guilty toward Elizabeth and wanted to make amends. But now she resents Elizabeth and thinks she's all sorts of bad. Mrs. Baker must have said something."
Eugene hadn't expected Amy to be involved. "Things have been pretty tense between us lately. She often badmouths Elizabeth in front of me, but I don't listen. She must have said something to Mrs. Clark too."
Amy wanted him to help Brenda and stay away from Elizabeth. She also said a lot of nasty things about Elizabeth. This time, not only did he ignore her, but he also snapped back, making Amy quite angry. It was likely that because of this, Amy took out her anger on Elizabeth again.
Kevin grumbled, "You should go back and talk to Mrs. Baker, tell her to stop obsessing over Elizabeth. Elizabeth hasn't done anything to her; she's got issues." Amy was a bad influence, making Betty's temper even worse.
Eugene nodded. "Alright, after the show ends, I'll go talk to her."
He also thought Amy had issues. She used to dislike Elizabeth, which made sense when he was into Elizabeth. But now that Elizabeth had broken up with him, Amy's continued meddling was just weird.
They were talking quietly in the back, but Elizabeth and Zachary could hear everything.
Elizabeth was fed up with Amy. Amy had a thing for Brenda, treated Rebecca like dirt, and kept a relentless watch over her. She was totally unhinged. If she insisted on causing trouble, Elizabeth had no problem giving her a taste of her own medicine.
Wayne had once said their family's diviners did as they pleased. They didn't believe in repaying evil with good but rather repaying kindness with kindness and enmity with enmity.
And Betty, what was she thinking? Couldn't she just live a good life? Why follow the problematic Amy and cause trouble? She'd regret it later.
However, if Amy and Betty could see through and detest Brenda, then Brenda's Generational Blessings could take a serious hit.
With Enrique constantly suffering, not only would he dislike Brenda, but his resentment would likely grow daily. As a result, Brenda's Generational Blessings would weaken and face significant backlash.
Elizabeth had already figured out that Brenda's Generational Blessings mainly came from those who genuinely liked, pampered, and treated her well. Once these people turned against Brenda, her Generational Blessings would weaken and backlash significantly.
With this in mind, Elizabeth decided to stir up some trouble later. She knew Amy and Betty's weaknesses. If they insisted on causing trouble, she would definitely retaliate.
While Elizabeth and the others were looking for a place to do some divination for others, Brenda was locked in a private room at the Divination Association.
The room had only a bed, a table, and a bathroom. Brenda stood in front of the mirror, covering her mouth in disbelief as she looked at her older and uglier self. Her face had become rougher, worse than before.
She had developed many spots and wrinkles, looking like she had aged twenty years overnight. Her once brown hair now had many strands of white. Without makeup, she looked like a middle-aged woman in her forties.
Brenda's eyes filled with resentment as she muttered, "Enrique, you are so cruel!"
The situation she was in, besides the backlash from being cursed, which weakened her Generational Blessings, was mainly because Enrique had started to resent her and had given up on her.
Samuel once said that her greatest reliance for Generational Blessings, aside from seizing Elizabeth's, was depending on those who genuinely cared for her, especially the Clark Family members. If they ever turned on her, she'd be in big trouble.
Previously, when her other brothers started to dislike her, her Generational Blessings weakened significantly, and she began to show abnormalities. Now, Enrique's backlash was even more severe.
She deeply regretted what she had done at Soule. Seeing herself in the mirror, she couldn't and wouldn't accept it. So she ran to the door and started banging on it frantically.
Soon, a voice came from outside, "What are you doing?"
Hearing the voice, Brenda stopped banging on the door. Instead, she raised her hand and knocked on the door rhythmically a few times. It seemed like a secret code.
After she finished, the person outside said, "Wait a minute."
After a while, Brenda was quietly taken to a secret room.
