Chapter 380 Go Find Someone Else
Percy dropped Elizabeth off at her apartment and then took off. Meanwhile, Ryan headed to the Deputy Director's office to explain Elizabeth's invitation to join and her help in finding the evidence.
Alaric Voss, one of the deputy directors, looked over the evidence and was genuinely surprised. "She's really something. With this, I can get an arrest warrant from the Director."
Ryan grinned, "Yeah, and I need you to help her get some temporary credentials too."
Alaric nodded. "No problem. Someone like Elizabeth is exactly what we need. I'll handle it today." He didn't want any hiccups with Elizabeth joining.
Alaric was super efficient and quickly got the arrest warrant from the Director. With this, Ryan and his team wouldn't face any issues when they went to the Divination Association to make arrests. He also quickly processed Elizabeth's employment paperwork and credentials.
Alaric told Ryan, "You should head to the Divination Association today to make the arrests, and bring Elizabeth to see me afterward. I got the arrest warrant, so Leander will probably find out soon. He's tight with the Divination Association, so I'm worried he might spill the beans."
Leander Ashford was another Deputy Director.
Ryan took the arrest warrant and said, "Got it. I'll book the flight now and get there ASAP."
Elizabeth had just gotten home when she got a call from Ryan. They had also added each other on WhatsApp, and Ryan sent her a photo of her temporary credentials. He mentioned they would be heading to the Divination Association today. Elizabeth was impressed by their efficiency. She became more curious about Alaric.
Just after finishing her chat with Ryan, Elizabeth noticed that Richard was looking for her in the group chat.
Richard: [Elizabeth, my mom suddenly has a lot of red spots on her face and body today. They're painful and itchy. We went to the hospital, but they couldn't find anything wrong. The medication they gave didn't work either. Could someone be harming her?]
Elizabeth saw these messages and guessed it was probably the work of that evil wizard. He wouldn't kill Betty, but he would make it obvious enough for Amy to be satisfied. After all, such disfiguring torment would make Amy realize he had taken action.
Elizabeth: [I haven't seen it, so I can't judge. If the hospital can't handle it, you might want to consult a divination master.]
Richard: [Can you come over and take a look? Of course, we won't ask you to do it for free.]
He meant they would pay Elizabeth. This was also Paul's idea.
Elizabeth: [No, she tried to take my hair to harm me with Mrs. Baker. I'm not that kind-hearted. Find someone else.]
Richard was a bit stunned by the message, replying: [My mom tried to take your hair to harm you with Mrs. Baker? When did it happen?]
Elizabeth knew Betty wouldn't tell the Clark family about this, so she deliberately revealed it. So, the Clark family wouldn't feel comfortable asking her for help again.
Elizabeth: [When we were in Aevum City, she was egged on by Mrs. Baker to steal my hair. If I hadn't caught her in time, I would've been targeted by the evil wizard Mrs. Baker hired.]
She then asked: [If it were you, would you help?]
Richard thought to himself, 'Of course not.'
If someone tried to harm him, he wouldn't just let it slide. Sure, if it were Betty, he might not retaliate, but he definitely wouldn't help her.
He could only reply: [Maybe she was misled by Betty and got confused.]
Elizabeth: [Regardless of the reason, she tried to harm me, so I won't help her.]
Richard: [I get it. Just forget I asked.]
Seeing Elizabeth's reply, he wasn't surprised. If Elizabeth gave up on someone, she could be pretty ruthless and heartless. But he was even more speechless about Betty's actions.
He looked at Paul and said, "Dad, Elizabeth won't help. She said Mom tried to harm her before, and she's not that kind-hearted, so she won't help."
It made Paul and the Clark brothers pause. Meanwhile, Betty's face changed; she didn't expect Elizabeth to spill the beans.
Paul asked, "Your mom tried to harm her? What's going on?"
Richard didn't hold back. "Mom helped Mrs. Baker try to take Elizabeth's hair to harm her with an evil wizard. Luckily, Elizabeth found out and stopped it in time, but because of this, she won't come to help Mom."
Kevin said, exasperated, "No wonder Elizabeth won't help. Mom did something like this; anyone would be mad."
He then looked at Betty, asking, "Mom, what were you thinking? Helping Mrs. Baker harm Elizabeth?"
The brothers had previously suppressed Elizabeth for Brenda's sake, but they would never help Amy harm her, especially when it involved an evil wizard.
Not to mention Elizabeth, even he wouldn't be willing to come.
Betty, sitting on the couch, looked very upset. She explained, "I didn't know that witch Amy was going to hire an evil wizard to harm her. If I had known, I definitely wouldn't have agreed to help take the hair. That witch Amy told me that Elizabeth was under a spell, which is why she was so heartless to us."
"She said if we took Elizabeth's hair, she could hire someone to help return Elizabeth to normal. I was tricked by her. Moreover, haven't I failed to obtain Elizabeth's hair?"
She looked aggrieved, her eyes turning red as she added, "How can she be so heartless? I'm in this state, and she won't even come to see me. No matter what, I'm still her biological mother!"
Betty still didn't see her actions as wrong, convinced that everything was unintentional.Paul's face didn't look good either. "When you agreed to take Elizabeth's hair for Mrs. Baker, did you think about her being your biological daughter?"
Betty's recent actions were increasingly disappointing. Elizabeth not coming to help was because Betty had crossed the line first. Even he thought Betty was in the wrong.
