Chapter 127 He Really Misjudged Her Before
The Clark Group.
The spellscroll on the crystal ball suddenly ignited and exploded.
Dominic's eyes narrowed. He tried to toss the crystal ball but was too slow, and the backlash hit him.
He almost spat out blood but swallowed it to avoid showing weakness.
He was shocked. 'Has Elizabeth's power grown this strong? How is this possible?'
Though Dominic didn't spit blood, Hubert and Paul noticed his hand tremble and his chest heave when the Spellscroll exploded. His face turned pale instantly.
Paul asked, "Dominic, did it fail again?"
Dominic felt like his insides were burning but kept a calm facade. "The blood wasn't enough, so it failed again."
He looked at Richard. "Richard, to ease your pain, we still need your blood."
Everyone turned to Richard.
For some reason, Richard felt reluctant to give his blood.
Arnold spoke up, "Richard, what's the hesitation? To stop your pain, hurry up and give it!"
Enrique added, "Yeah, you and Brenda are in so much pain, just give the blood."
Paul stayed silent, wondering how he ended up with two such foolish sons. He wanted to see what Richard would decide on his own.
Hubert, watching Dominic closely, sensed something was off.
He suddenly asked, "Dominic, does using blood mean you have to harm the person who cast the evil aura to neutralize it? If it fails, do you also suffer some damage?"
This question stunned the Clarks.
Dominic was taken aback but nodded. "Yes, that's the principle."
He told the truth because he couldn't deceive them. If Hubert or Paul consulted a powerful divination master, they'd find out.
Richard frowned. "You mean using my blood can harm the person who cast the evil aura?"
Dominic nodded. "Yes, only then can it be neutralized."
He added, "She won't be seriously hurt, just that your pain will be reflected back onto her. It's like using the same method to retaliate."
He implied there was nothing wrong with striking back.
If Paul didn't know Elizabeth was the one targeting them, Brenda would have already urged Richard to do it. Given Richard's ruthless nature, she believed he wouldn't let Elizabeth off the hook.
Out of her expectancy, Richard hesitated. If he struck back, wouldn't the enmity with Elizabeth deepen?
What he had done to Elizabeth before was just to tarnish her reputation. He wanted her to come back and admit her mistake. If she stopped being a star and returned to the Clark family, it wouldn't be a loss.
The key issue was whether Dominic had any malicious intent. What if it wasn't just reflecting the pain back to Elizabeth? What if it caused significant harm or endangered her life?
He had heard that battles between divination masters could cause severe damage to the losing side.
After hesitating, Richard said, "Forget it, I won't neutralize it. Mr. Day, just give me a divination artifact like Mr. Romero's to suppress the pain, and I'll pay for it."
Even though he was furious with Elizabeth, he didn't actually want her dead. His feelings were conflicted; his anger was a hot flame, but it didn’t burn with the kind of heat that wanted total destruction.
Deep down, part of him still wanted Elizabeth to feel the sting of her actions, enough so she'd think twice before messing with him again. Consequences could be a powerful teacher, and she needed that lesson.
Yet, he doubted the old man in front of him could be trusted, and that was why he had decided against it.
Hearing Richard's choice, Paul sighed in relief. Richard wasn't ruthless to the point of being reckless.
Brenda, however, was baffled. Since when did Richard become so kind? Shouldn't he retaliate harshly? Just because Elizabeth was his sister? She couldn't accept this.
With Paul around, she didn't dare get angry directly. But when Paul and the others weren't looking, she tugged on Arnold's clothes.
Arnold hesitated, musing silently. 'Reflecting the pain back to Elizabeth, is that really okay? What if something goes wrong? Otherwise, letting Elizabeth experience it might be fine, so she won't dare to be so ruthless in the future.'
Seeing Arnold stay silent, Brenda pinched Enrique's back.
Enrique had similar thoughts to Arnold. Brenda was furious that neither of them spoke up. What did they mean by this? When it came to Elizabeth, they became mute? Did she have to suffer in vain? She didn't want to endure the pain for another ten days or half a month.
She spoke pitifully, "I have a variety show next week, and it still hurts even with the bracelet."
Today, she wouldn't let Elizabeth off the hook. She also wanted to help Dominic get Richard's blood.
Hearing Brenda's words, Enrique felt a bit heartbroken. So he asked Dominic, "Mr. Day, reflecting the pain back really just makes her feel the pain, without any other harm, right?"
Dominic nodded. "Yes, don't worry."
What he left unsaid was, Elizabeth wouldn't be seriously hurt this time, but it wouldn't be the same in the future.
Enrique sighed in relief and turned to Richard. "Since there's no other harm, Richard, you don't need to hesitate. Just do it. You won't have to suffer the pain anymore."
Richard looked at him and asked, "Do you not want me to suffer the pain, or do you not want Brenda to suffer?"
Enrique replied confidently, "Of course, I don't want either of you to suffer. Richard, don't say you can't do it; you're not that kind of person."
Among the five brothers, Richard was the most ruthless.
Richard was furious. Was his brother implying he was a heartless person?
He sneered, "I can only pray for you that you don't fall into Elizabeth's hands in the future, or you'll be in for it."
If he gave his blood today, Elizabeth, being smart, would definitely figure it out, and their enmity would deepen. In the future, they wouldn't even be able to reconcile; meeting would mean being enemies. Given Elizabeth's current temperament, she wouldn't show him any mercy in the future.
Enrique scoffed, "Am I supposed to be afraid of her? Besides, you're just using the same method to retaliate against her. She struck first. Richard, why have you become so hesitant?"
Richard's expression soured when Enrique looked down on him. Just as he was about to speak, Paul's angry voice came. "Enough. This matter ends here."
If there weren't outsiders present, he would have hit Enrique. Brenda just acted pitiful, and Enrique started speaking up for her. He was simply foolish. This Brenda was indeed no good, deliberately sowing discord between his sons and Elizabeth. He had really misjudged her before.
