Chapter 16
Kevin stepped out and called for Elizabeth to cook, leaving everyone who had just walked in completely stunned.
Raymond and the others all turned to look at Elizabeth.
Kevin's tone sounded way too familiar with Elizabeth, almost bossy.
Elizabeth shot Kevin a look of disbelief. "Is that how you ask someone for help?"
"And who exactly are you to ask me to cook for you?"
Kevin hesitated. "I..."
He wanted to say he was her brother, but Elizabeth's icy stare shut him up.
Elizabeth sneered, "Kevin, if you've lost your mind, you better find it quick. I'm not your servant."
Raymond raised an eyebrow at Kevin. "Don't you think you're being a bit too thick-skinned?"
"Elizabeth isn't part of your crew, and she doesn't owe you anything. Why should she cook for you?"
Just then, three people came out of the kitchen.
Brenda looked at Raymond apologetically.
"Sorry, I hurt my hand while cooking, and Kevin got worried, so he wanted to ask Elizabeth for help."
She showed her right hand, which had a few red spots.
Then she turned to Elizabeth. "Kevin was just concerned; don't be too hard on him."
Elizabeth knew Brenda was trying to show off how much Kevin cared for her.
She was also trying to provoke Elizabeth into saying something she shouldn't.
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow. "You don't need to flaunt your sibling love in front of me."
"If he cares so much, he can help you cook himself."
"Why drag me into this?"
She added pointedly, "I remember I have nothing to do with you anymore."
Brenda didn't expect Elizabeth to stay so calm.
Wasn't Elizabeth supposed to lash out at her?
Brenda quickly shook her head. "I didn't mean it like that."
Elizabeth's last comment made her nervous, worried that Elizabeth might expose their relationship in public.
So she immediately grabbed Kevin's arm. "Kevin, I rinsed my hand with cold water; it's much better now."
"I can finish cooking the last two dishes; you don't need to ask anyone else for help."
Kevin snorted, "Fine, Elizabeth, I won't bother asking you again."
Elizabeth replied, "Indeed, you can't afford to."
"I'm not familiar with you, so please respect that in the future."
Now wasn't the time to reveal their relationship.
If she exposed it herself, it would be different from others finding out and spreading it.
If she said it herself, people would accuse her of seeking sympathy and pity.
Kevin's face darkened. "Elizabeth, don't forget who you are and what your last name is."
Elizabeth rolled her eyes at him. "You should really get your head checked."
Kevin stayed silent.
Brenda didn't want the conversation to continue.
She was worried Kevin might slip up and reveal that Elizabeth was his sister.
So she exclaimed, "Oh no, the food I'm cooking is about to burn!"
She quickly grabbed Kevin's hand and pulled him back to the kitchen. "Kevin, come help me."
Elizabeth watched them go and clicked her tongue. "Holding hands to go back to the kitchen, how touching!"
Hearing Elizabeth's comment, everyone noticed Brenda holding Kevin's hand as they went back to the kitchen.
It did seem a bit odd for adult siblings to be so touchy-feely.
Eugene, who had known Elizabeth for years, knew she wasn't one to back down easily.
But now she was getting tangled up with Brenda and Kevin, which seemed a bit much.
So he said, "Elizabeth, let it go."
Elizabeth looked at Eugene with cold eyes, her voice just as frosty. "The fool who starts trouble is really stupid."
Eugene was taken aback by the icy look in Elizabeth's eyes, feeling a bit uneasy.
Just as he was about to explain, Raymond cut in, "Eugene, the fool who starts trouble is really stupid."
"Anyone with eyes can see who was at fault just now. Are you truly blind to the difference between right and wrong?"
Kevin's tone earlier made it sound like Elizabeth was his servant, which even he found irritating.
Eugene's face darkened as he frowned at Raymond. "You don't understand, so you have no right to speak."
Elizabeth knew Eugene well, and seeing his expression, she guessed his thoughts.
She sneered, "Eugene, are you suggesting that I should simply obey orders and not resist?"
"Do you believe I am indebted to them?"
Seeing Elizabeth's increasingly cold demeanor, Eugene was taken aback. "No, that's not what I meant. Don't overthink it."
Elizabeth remained calm. "I don't care. There's nothing to overthink."
"But you always like to blame others."
She truly didn't care about Kevin and Eugene's attitudes.
Eugene pursed his lips, looking deeply at Elizabeth.
He said nothing more and turned back to the kitchen.
Now wasn't the time to talk; he needed to find an opportunity to have a proper conversation with Elizabeth.
Ronald and Nancy didn't expect Elizabeth to be so direct.
Kevin was indeed a bit excessive earlier; Elizabeth wasn't his servant.
But from the conversation just now, they felt that the relationship between these people wasn't simple.
