Chapter 392 How Could She Do This?
Elizabeth's words left the Anderson family scratching their heads. Leon thought for a bit and asked, "So, you're saying Betty got infected by some nasty bug and couldn't shake it off, so she passed it to Zephyr?"
Elizabeth nodded. "Yep, that's exactly it."
Leon frowned. "When did she learn to do stuff like that? And how did she get infected in the first place? Could Brenda be behind this?"
He knew Brenda had a history of messing with her brothers' Generational Blessings, so he always thought she was up to no good. He'd even warned the Andersons to steer clear of her. So now, with Betty pulling this stunt, his mind went straight to Brenda.
Elizabeth shook her head. "It wasn't Brenda directly, but she's probably involved. Mrs. Clark wouldn't transfer the parasite herself, but Brenda could've found someone to do it."
She then asked, "You guys didn't know Mrs. Clark was infected?"
Leon shook his head. "Nope, she never mentioned it. But she did say Mrs. Baker hired some evil wizard from Eldoria to mess with her and asked us to help take down the King Family."
A thought hit him. "Could that evil wizard have put the bug in her?"
Elizabeth nodded. "Exactly. She got infected about two weeks ago. The Clark Family even asked me for help, but since she tried to harm me before, I said no. Richard told me they brought in a bunch of experts, but none could handle the parasite. They had to wait for the president or vice president of the Divination Association to come back to have any hope of removing it."
She sighed. "I never thought she'd let Brenda talk her into transferring the bug to Zephyr."
Leon's face darkened. "How could she do that?" He then asked, "Can this kind of bug be transferred just like that?"
Elizabeth replied, "Nope, there are conditions. The two people have to be related by blood and share the same zodiac sign."
Leon's face got even darker. "Zephyr and she do share the same zodiac sign and even have birthdays in the same month." No wonder Betty went after Zephyr.
He remembered another question. "What happened when she tried to harm you before?"
Elizabeth didn't hold back and explained how Betty had tried to use her hair to hurt her. The Andersons were left speechless. How could Betty help Amy and plot against Elizabeth like that? No wonder Elizabeth didn't want to help; they wouldn't either if they were in her shoes.
Back to the main issue, Ruth asked Elizabeth with concern, "Elizabeth, can you help Zephyr?"
She now despised Betty. Betty was too selfish; unable to solve her own problem, she came up with such a wicked idea to harm Zephyr. She had always been good to Betty. Just like with Amy, after knowing Amy bullied Betty and Elizabeth, not only did the Anderson Family suppress the King Family, but she also had her own family help. If she had known Betty was such an ungrateful person, she wouldn't have gone to such lengths.
Elizabeth sighed, "I can help, but Zephyr's situation is really tricky. The bug is hiding in a crucial blood vessel in his brain. If anything goes wrong, he could end up with brain damage."
The Anderson family's faces fell, especially Zephyr, who looked like he was about to cry. "I don't want to be a vegetable or in a coma," he said, his voice trembling.
Leon turned to Elizabeth, desperation in his eyes. "How confident are you?"
Elizabeth took a deep breath. "Since this bug was put there by a high-level evil wizard, if I try to force it out, the wizard will know. If they intervene, there'll be a struggle. If the bug were somewhere else in the body, we could manage the fallout, but in the brain? It's risky. I'd say there's only a fifty percent chance of safely removing it."
She wasn't sugarcoating it. A struggle with a wizard who specialized in these bugs was no joke. Even though she was a high-level diviner, she knew better than to underestimate her opponent.
Ruth, her voice shaky, asked, "Is there anyone who can guarantee a hundred percent success?" A fifty percent chance was too much of a gamble for her.
Elizabeth replied, "There are only two types of people who can guarantee that. The first is the person who put the bug there in the first place; they can use special methods to draw it out. The second is someone working with that person. They can also use those methods to remove it."
She added, "But if either of these people removes the bug, they'll want something in return. Even if they get it out today, they might mess with Zephyr's brain for future use. It's not completely safe. And Brenda convincing Mrs. Clark to transfer the bug must have some ulterior motive against the Anderson family."
Elizabeth was sure there was a reason behind Brenda's sudden move. If it was just to harm her, it wouldn't make sense. The Andersons wouldn't hate her just for that. So, someone must be after something from the Anderson family.
Ruth's eyes welled up with tears. "What should we do then?" She asked again, "If we don't remove the bug and let it stay in his brain, what will happen?"
Elizabeth replied, "He'll die. The bug feeds on a person's vital energy. Once it's consumed most of Zephyr's energy, his lifespan will be significantly shortened.
"If the bug isn't removed, Zephyr will experience daily blackouts. His overall vitality will deteriorate. In a month or two, he won't even have the strength to walk.
"The transfer of the bug causes it to use up some of its own energy. So, it needs to quickly and voraciously absorb Zephyr's energy to replenish itself. That's why he's been blacking out after just a few days.
"The bug in Mrs. Clark's body would take about a year to affect her lifespan. But for Zephyr, in less than six months, his life will be in serious danger."
She wasn't exaggerating; this was what she had found out through her investigation.
