Chapter 204 Put Enrique on the Spot
Arnold was also angry; Enrique just liked to blame others. Being blamed left Arnold feeling deeply wronged and frustrated.
He suddenly had an idea that would put Enrique on the spot and maybe even get him out of this mess.
With a forced smile, Arnold urged, "If you think you can do it better, then go ahead! I'm not as good at taking care of people as you are. This live reality show has one last episode; you can take my place next time."
Arnold really didn't want to suffer this anymore. Not only did he have to work hard to make money, but Brenda, whom he was specifically taking care of, also set him up. Then he offended his own sister, Elizabeth, once again.
So why did he come to this show in the first place? He must have been out of his mind back then.
Arnold thought, 'If Enrique is so keen on protecting Brenda, then let him come next time. I'm done.'
Kevin's eyes lit up at the idea, and he chimed in, "Yeah, Enrique, you can replace me too."
Enrique fell silent, wondering how these two guys end up wanting him to replace them.
He shook his head. "I'm not interested in being on a reality show."
Arnold retorted, "I wasn't interested before, either. But I came to take care of Brenda. We can't take good care of Brenda, but you can. So, for the next episode, I'll give you my spot; I'll just be a temporary guest for this one. It's decided then; I'll talk to the director about it tomorrow."
Enrique was rendered speechless. "Why the rush?" he asked. He was tempted, though. If he had joined the live reality show, he could have taken care of and protected Brenda from being bullied. Yet, seeing Arnold and Kevin’s eagerness to push this role onto him raised suspicions.
Arnold coaxed, "We have to talk to the director first. Otherwise, if someone else takes the spot, how will you protect Brenda?"
Enrique looked at him and asked suspiciously, "Are you up to something?"
Arnold rolled his eyes and shot back, "What could I be up to? It's just a reality show. No big deal. Didn't you just blame me for not taking good care of Brenda? So you come and show us how well you can do it."
Kevin chimed in, "Yeah, Enrique, show us how it's done so we can learn."
Unfortunately, Arnold got in first; otherwise, Kevin wouldn't want to continue being a guest on this live reality show either.
Kevin's participation in the first episode for Brenda resulted in severe backlash from the netizens. He faced widespread criticism, lost numerous fans, and even strained his relationship with Elizabeth. The immense suffering he endured left him feeling deeply wronged, especially considering that Brenda failed to show any appreciation for his efforts.
Kevin pondered, 'Maybe after going back this time, I can persuade Richard or Loren to replace me in the next episode.'
With the two of them pushing him, Enrique would seem petty if he didn't accept. After all, he did think that they were right.
He nodded to Arnold. "Alright, you ask the director tomorrow if I can replace you."
Arnold immediately answered, "Of course, leave it to me; I'll make sure it's done."
Seeing Arnold's eagerness, Enrique felt he had ulterior motives. He suddenly asked, "But with Brenda injured like this, can she continue the live show in the next episode?"
Arnold was stunned; he had been so eager to leave that he forgot about this. He said, "If it's according to the usual schedule, she probably won't have recovered."
Enrique immediately replied, "Then I won't replace you. If Brenda isn't going, why should I?"
Arnold, just in case, suggested, "How about this? I'll talk to the director. If Brenda is in the next episode, you replace me. If she isn't, you don't."
Anyway, Arnold wasn't coming back to suffer this thankless task in the next episode. If Brenda didn't participate, he would also talk to the director about replacing other guests.
Kevin couldn't help but say, "Then I don't want to stay either."
Without Arnold, it would be awkward for him to face Elizabeth alone. Mainly, after knowing Brenda wasn't so blameless, Kevin felt guilty seeing Elizabeth.
Arnold could totally understand Kevin's feelings now. He patted Kevin on the shoulder and said, "Then let's lie flat together; we'll get scolded less."
Elizabeth scolded him as soon as he arrived for this episode. Even though Arnold didn't witness it firsthand, he could guess that he got scolded a lot by the audience for this episode.
Whether it was questioning Gilbert's singing or confronting Elizabeth without knowing the facts.
Arnold was the target of scolding. Some fans might even unfollow him because of it. This time, he really lost out, and his reputation was affected.
Enrique nodded. "Alright, I'll only participate if Brenda does; otherwise, I don't care. Let's go get some late-night snacks, and then you guys come with me to the hospital to see Brenda. You guys don't care about her, making her feel wronged and sad. She keeps telling me she wants to explain to you. She doesn't want to fall out with you because of Elizabeth," he said.
Kevin was ready to go for late-night snacks. However, upon hearing the latter part, he immediately changed his mind.
Kevin clutched his stomach and replied, "My stomach hurts; I can't walk. Let's talk tomorrow."
Arnold also touched his throat and said, "My throat hurts badly; it's hard even to drink water, let alone eat snacks. You go to the hospital to take care of Brenda first; Kevin and I will come find you tomorrow."
Whether they went or not was up to them.
Seeing their state and hearing Arnold's hoarse voice, Enrique believed them.
He stood up and uttered, "Alright, but you must come tomorrow. I'll head back to the hospital first; I can't leave Brenda alone in the ward."
Kevin wanted to emphasize that Brenda had been left alone in the hospital for several days after her injury. Considering Brenda's personality, he believed that she might not perceive anything wrong with this situation.
Arnold had similar thoughts. That day, he was so angry he couldn't eat, but when he went to the hospital, he saw Brenda eating a sandwich despite her injury.
But both of them didn't want to remind Enrique.
They kept saying, "Yeah, Brenda needs you now."
As Enrique opened the door to leave.
Kevin suddenly asked, "Does Dad know you came here?"
Enrique turned back and replied, "Isn't that obvious? If Dad knew, could I still come? But I did message his secretary, saying I was in a bad mood and wanted to go nearby to relax for a few days. I told him to contact me before returning to the country so I could meet up and go back with Dad." This way, Paul wouldn't easily suspect.
Kevin smiled and praised meaningfully, "Enrique, you're indeed smart."
Enrique smiled proudly. "Of course."
He emphasized to the two, "You must come to the hospital tomorrow, or I'll personally come to get you."
Kevin waved goodbye. "No problem, see you tomorrow!"
Enrique left feeling assured.
As soon as the door closed, Kevin said to Arnold, "Call Dad and tell him. That way, Dad will definitely send someone to find Enrique tomorrow and probably take Brenda back to the country, too." This was the only way to avoid dealing with them tomorrow.
Arnold looked at him in shock. He sighed, "Kevin, I didn't expect you to be so devious."
Kevin rolled his eyes and said, "Just tell me if you'll do it."
Arnold decisively replied, "Of course!" Otherwise, they'd be bugged by Enrique, which would be annoying.
So they called Paul.
