Chapter 390 Asking Elizabeth for Help
So, Betty called her parents to check in. They had no clue she'd been bitten by some bug and was now covered in red spots. She didn't want anyone to know because they'd all rush over to see her, and that would just be super awkward. So, she kept it to herself.
Only Amy knew what was up, but she was being watched by some special department folks. Since she was the one who caused it, she felt pretty guilty and kept her mouth shut.
Betty got some info from her parents that Zephyr had taken up horseback riding at a local ranch. After hanging up, she hired a private detective to keep tabs on him.
Two days later, Betty, all disguised, went out with Brenda. They headed to the ranch where Brenda's divination master was waiting. To avoid raising Zephyr's suspicions, Brenda stayed in the car. Betty, wearing a full-face mask that only showed her eyes, went in to find the divination master. They headed to where Zephyr was hanging out.
Following the divination master's plan, Betty walked quickly and bumped into Zephyr hard, while the master hid and watched. At the moment of the collision, the master made a subtle move. He'd already bribed someone to sprinkle a powder on Zephyr's clothes that attracted the poisonous insect. Using a trick taught by the evil wizard who had poisoned Betty, he transferred the insect to Zephyr. Zephyr almost fell over from the collision and was about to get mad, but Betty quickly apologized. He just told her to watch where she was going and went off to ride horses with his friends, not noticing the bug crawling into his ear.
A few days later, Elizabeth got a phone call.
"Hello?" she answered.
"Elizabeth, it's Leon," the caller said.
Elizabeth was surprised. Why was Leon calling? Did he know about Betty and want to mediate? She had no beef with the Anderson Family. After returning to the Clark Family, she'd visited the Andersons a few times.
Most of the Andersons were polite to her, except for her second aunt and her daughter, who were cold and sometimes picked on her. She got along well with Zephyr. In her past life, Zephyr had visited her on set with lots of stuff when she was filming in remote areas. They still kept in touch occasionally.
Elizabeth's tone with Leon was neutral. "Mr. Anderson, what can I do for you?"
Since she'd cut ties with the Clark Family, she had no relationship with Leon and didn't plan to keep any with the Andersons either. Leon got the hint from her tone. He wasn't mad, understanding that they hadn't interacted much before. Given how extreme Betty's actions were, Elizabeth's attitude made sense.
He got straight to the point. "Zephyr's been collapsing out of nowhere these past few days. We took him to the hospital, but all his tests came back normal. A friend suggested he might be cursed. I even consulted a couple of fortune tellers, but they couldn't find anything."
He added, a bit awkwardly, "I know you're good with divination, so I was hoping you could help."
If Zephyr's condition wasn't so bizarre and if others could figure it out, he wouldn't have reached out to Elizabeth.
Elizabeth was taken aback. "Where's Zephyr?"
Zephyr was the Anderson she was closest to. Even if she had issues with the Anderson Family, she couldn't ignore him.
Leon sighed in relief. "He collapsed again this morning and is in the hospital now." He gave her the address.
Elizabeth said, "Okay, I'll head over now."
Leon offered to send someone to pick her up, but she declined.
Half an hour later, Elizabeth arrived at the top private hospital in Clifftonshireburg. Zephyr was in a high-end ward, and the door was open. She walked right in. There were four people in the room.
Zephyr was lying on the bed, looking pale with dark circles under his eyes, weak and haggard. His mom, Ruth Gonzalez, was sitting beside him, while Leon and Soren, Zephyr's older brother, were standing and talking. When they saw Elizabeth, they all smiled warmly.
Ruth immediately stood up. "Elizabeth, you're here. Please, have a seat."
Elizabeth smiled back. "Hello, Mrs. Anderson!"
Ruth had always been kind to her, unlike her second aunt. Betty, on the other hand, was closest to her second aunt.
Ruth felt a bit awkward at the formal address. She thought for a moment and said, "You don't have to be so formal. Just call me Ruth."
'Betty really went too far,' she thought. She didn't want to force Elizabeth to acknowledge them as family, but she didn't want to be too distant either.
Elizabeth smiled. "Alright, Ruth."
Soren, who was more than ten years older than Elizabeth, didn't interact with her much. He didn't have much contact with Brenda either. Zephyr often complained about Brenda, and with recent events, he had a poor impression of her, finding Elizabeth more likable.
Elizabeth nodded to Soren.
Zephyr, on the other hand, looked like he'd seen a savior. He waved to Elizabeth, "Elizabeth, please save me. I feel like I'm dying here."
Elizabeth knew this was just Zephyr being dramatic. She said with a wry smile, "Zephyr, you don't look like you're dying anytime soon."
Zephyr asked, "So you can tell something's wrong with me?"
Elizabeth nodded. "No normal person would look like you do right now."
She sensed a bad vibe around Zephyr; something was definitely off. She walked over and said, "Extend your hand, and I'll take a look."
