Chapter 96 Why Are You So Pathetic
Richard couldn't help but call Kevin after seeing his post.
Kevin was scrolling through the timeline, waiting for Elizabeth to reply.
Earlier, he had noticed Elizabeth had replied to Lisa.
When he saw the call, he answered, "Richard, what's up?"
Richard sounded upset. "Why did you post that?"
Kevin knew what he meant.
"What's wrong with it? We're trying to get Elizabeth to come home. I'm just making an effort."
Richard was furious. "Effort? You're just making things worse."
He was convinced that Kevin was the least thoughtful in the family, never thinking things through.
Kevin felt wronged. "How am I making it worse? I just wanted to show some goodwill to Elizabeth. Mom said we should give her some face to get her to come home. You're being unreasonable."
Richard was silent.
He suddenly felt Elizabeth was right to call Kevin stupid during the live stream.
"You idiot," he said, "By posting that, what about Brenda and Eugene?"
Kevin replied, "They should post too! We're all in this together. It could ease the tension with Elizabeth."
"Post my ass. If Brenda and Eugene post and Elizabeth ignores them, it'll be even more awkward. Now that you've posted, should they post or not? You've put them in a tough spot."
Kevin was also angry. "You're the idiot. If you hadn't been so harsh, Elizabeth wouldn't be at odds with us. I just want to ease the tension. If Brenda and Eugene don't want to post, they don't have to. What's the big deal? Why can't things be straightforward?"
He couldn't understand Richard's thinking.
Richard was furious. "I'm done talking to you. I can't communicate with you."
Kevin felt the same. "Right back at you. I can't communicate with you."
Richard sneered and hung up.
Kevin heard the busy tone and sneered too. Richard was getting crazier.
He thought Richard needed a check-up and sent a message.
Kevin: [I think Elizabeth is right. You might have a mental problem. Go to the hospital for a check-up tomorrow.]
Richard saw the message and was very angry.
How could he have such a stupid brother?
Suppressing the urge to go home and beat Kevin up, he replied: [Get lost!]
Then, getting angrier, he sent another message: [I also think Elizabeth is right, you really are stupid.]
Kevin saw the message and was silent.
Richard was exactly what people online called a lunatic, case closed.
As a normal person, he wouldn't argue with a lunatic. He decided to interact less with Richard in the future to avoid getting infected with the same mental problem.
So, Kevin ignored it and kept scrolling.
Richard noticed Kevin didn't reply and decided to avoid interacting with him to keep his sanity.
Both brothers were disgusted and annoyed with each other.
Meanwhile, Brenda was at home, itching to scold Kevin.
But to keep her image as a considerate sister, she held back and stewed in her anger.
She thought for a moment and messaged Eugene, asking if he wanted to comment about Elizabeth's new studio online.
Eugene replied: [Don't make a fool of yourself.]
Brenda sent two more messages trying to chat, but Eugene didn't reply.
After a long silence, Brenda felt uncomfortable.
So she messaged Amy, asking if Eugene was busy since he hadn't replied and she was worried about him.
At the Baker family home, Eugene saw Brenda's messages.
He didn't want to reply and irritably tossed his phone aside.
He grabbed a bottle of wine, poured a glass, and started drinking.
He wasn't surprised Elizabeth had rejected Raymond and decided to start her own studio.
He knew she was always self-reliant, which he admired.
He wanted to be with her, to celebrate her new studio.
But he knew she wouldn't pay attention to him.
Recently, he had tried contacting Elizabeth, but she hung up as soon as she heard his voice.
Posting like Kevin was out of the question. It would only make Elizabeth dislike him more.
He was frustrated and depressed, unsure how to get Elizabeth to reconcile with him.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
Eugene said, "Come in."
Amy entered and saw Eugene sitting on the floor, drinking, looking dejected.
She frowned. "What are you doing? Why are you like this?"
Eugene looked at his glass. "Nothing, just in a bad mood."
Amy was unhappy seeing him like this. "Is it because of the online stuff? Or Elizabeth?"
Eugene didn't answer but asked, "Do you need something?"
Amy frowned more. "Brenda sent you a message, why didn't you reply? Where are your manners? Is this how I raised you?"
Eugene, already annoyed and with some alcohol in him, suddenly threw his glass on the ground.
Amy was startled.
Just as she was about to scold him, Eugene spoke first.
He looked at her with red eyes. "Brenda, Brenda, Brenda again. Is an outsider more important to you than your own son? When did you ever raise me? Grandpa did."
For the first time, he shouted, "I'll say it one last time, I have no romantic feelings for Brenda, and I won't be with her. The only person I like is Elizabeth."
It was the first time Amy was yelled at and contradicted by her son.
"What kind of spell did Elizabeth cast on you? How is she better than Brenda? And after all the things she did online to embarrass you, you still think about her."
She was furious. "Why are you so pathetic?"
What was so good about Elizabeth? Amy couldn't understand what Eugene saw in her.
In her mind, how could Eugene go against her wishes? No way.
She absolutely couldn't let him be like Rebecca, always going against her own mother.
