Chapter 237 Do You Know Who Hurt Wayne?
That day, just as Elizabeth was about to bounce, a knock threw her off. Mid-shoe change, she shuffled to the door.
Standing there was an old dude with a kind face, all suited up, and a younger guy with white hair rocking a long robe.
Recognizing them from way back, Elizabeth lit up. "Hello, Xavier, Bradley!" She waved them in. These guys were her late mentor Wayne's old pals.
The old guy in the suit, Xavier Henderson, gave a gentle smile. "Looks like you still remember us."
The robed dude, Bradley McDonald, nodded and smiled. "Hello, Elizabeth."
After they plopped down, Elizabeth whipped up two cups of coffee and set them in front of them.
"So, what's up? Need something from me?" she asked. It had been ages since she last saw them, and they usually didn't keep in touch. Them showing up out of the blue had to mean something.
Bradley pulled out a seal and handed it to Elizabeth. "This is the seal Wayne left with us before he passed. He foresaw that we should find you now and give it to you."
Elizabeth was taken aback and took the seal. It was Wayne's, the one he always fiddled with.
Certified masters by the Divination Association had seals with their names, auras, and special symbols. It was like their ID.
She had her own seal too. Feeling the familiar vibe, Elizabeth rubbed it, her eyes getting misty.
"Why did Wayne leave the seal with you and tell you to give it to me now?" she whispered.
Bradley explained, "Wayne left something for you in the Divination Association's storage. Only this seal and a key you have can open it. His divination said it wasn't the right time before. We don't know what it is or why now."
Elizabeth clutched the seal, her eyes welling up. She missed Wayne so much. "Got it," she murmured.
Seeing her upset, Bradley added, "Before Wayne passed, he asked us to look out for you. But he also said not to bug you until we handed over the seal. I'm the principal of Clifftonshireburg Mystic Divination Academy. If you need anything, hit me up. Or just come by for coffee."
Xavier chimed in, "I'm now the VP of the Divination Association. If you wanna go pro as a master diviner, come to me. We've seen your skills in your live streams; you're talented. Wayne would be proud. He trusted us to look after you, and we will. Don't hesitate to reach out."
Surprised by their offers, Elizabeth nodded. "Thank you both. I'll definitely be leaning on you."
This was Wayne's kindness, and she wasn't about to squander it. Besides, she had a lot to sort out.
Learning about Xavier and Bradley's prestigious positions was a surprise. The Mystic Divination Academy in Clifftonshireburg carried weight, and having the principal and the VP of the association in her corner was a major advantage.
Xavier gave a warm smile. "You're our junior, so it's our job to look out for you. Got any questions for us?"
Elizabeth had a few. She looked straight at them and asked, "Do you know how Wayne died?"
Xavier thought back and said, "Before he took you in, Wayne went to the Southern Isles and came back all messed up. We asked, but he never said who did it. That injury cut his life short. And a year before he passed, he did some heavy-duty divination. We don't know what he saw, but he used a secret technique that cost him his life. It backfired, and he aged super fast, passing away soon after."
Elizabeth's heart sank. She remembered rushing back from Clifftonshireburg to find Wayne on his deathbed. It was the backlash that did him in. "Do you know what secret technique he used?" she asked, her voice shaky.
Bradley sighed deeply, "Wayne didn't tell us, but we think he might've changed someone's fate. Otherwise, even with his bad injury, he would've lived a few more years. Only a technique like that demands such a huge sacrifice."
Xavier added, looking sad, "Yeah, based on his destiny, he should've had another twenty years or so before using that technique."
Elizabeth clenched her fists, tears threatening to spill. Wayne had given up everything, maybe for her. "Do you know who hurt Wayne?" she choked out.
Xavier said, "We have some leads. We'll let you know once we confirm."
Bradley looked at Elizabeth and said, "Wayne wanted you to have a happy life. He didn't want you to go after revenge. Let us handle it."
Elizabeth pressed her lips together and replied firmly, "I get it, but I still want to know who did it." Revenge? Yeah, that was definitely on her mind.
Bradley said, "We'll let you know once we find out."
Elizabeth nodded. "Okay, thanks!"
Bradley asked, "Anything else you wanna ask?"
Elizabeth thought for a moment and sighed, "No, I need some time alone."
She didn't fully trust these two. They'd only met once, and it had been over a decade since she last saw them. They didn't know Wayne's secrets. She had no more questions; there were many things she needed to figure out herself.
Bradley could see Elizabeth was holding back her emotions. It was clear she had a deep bond with Wayne.
The two got the hint and stood up. Bradley said, "Alright, we won't bother you anymore. Let's exchange contact info."
Elizabeth nodded. "Sure!"
Then she added them on WhatsApp.
Even modern diviners kept up with the times, using chat tools along with phone calls.
Elizabeth then got up to see them out.
As they were about to leave, Xavier advised, "You should go retrieve the stuff Wayne left at the Divination Association ASAP. Maybe there are some answers you're looking for in there."
Elizabeth thanked them again, showing them out before finally closing the door. Alone, she couldn't hold back the overwhelming emotion any longer. She sank to the floor, hugging her legs tightly as sobs wracked her body.
