Chapter 209 In the Same Bed
Enrique came to the room to find Betty in the evening. He had secretly come to Veridiania, he felt guilty in front of his parents. So he cautiously asked, "Mom, can I join you for dinner?"
Betty sneered, "Why aren't you having dinner with Brenda? Why are you here?"
Enrique retorted, a bit angry, "Mom, that's a bit harsh! Isn't it right for me to have dinner with you? And even if I go have dinner with Brenda, what's wrong with that?"
He really couldn't understand. How come, after being taken abroad by Paul for a while, both Arnold and Kevin and even Betty had changed their attitude toward Brenda?
Betty got even angrier when she saw his expression, "Then why don't you go have dinner with Elizabeth?" she asked.
Enrique was speechless. "If I go to her, would she even pay attention to me?" he shot back. He had that much self-awareness.
Enrique said, "Mom, if you don't want to eat, I'll go find Brenda." He originally wanted to go to the hospital to accompany Brenda, and now he was just reporting to Betty.
Betty could see through Enrique's little scheme. She was furious. "What exactly has Brenda done to enchant you?" she scolded.
Enrique replied helplessly, "Mom, if you're in a bad mood, just calm down by yourself. Why take it out on me and Brenda? Brenda is injured and alone in the hospital. If you don't feel sorry and go see her, can't I?"
Betty was infuriated by his words. She pointed to the door and snapped, "Get out. If you want to go, then go."
Enrique grinned. "Mom, then I'll go."
After saying that, he quickly slipped away.
Betty, fuming and having lost her appetite, slumped in her chair, brooding in silence.
Meanwhile, Enrique had gone to the hospital to keep Brenda company. He handed his hotel room key to Amy's personal assistant, instructing her to stay at the hotel for the night while he watched over Brenda. He hadn't even touched the room since he left.
The assistant was initially reluctant but ultimately had to comply, taking the key and leaving the hospital.
Once outside, she called Betty to inform her of the arrangement. Betty instructed her to come back, leaving Enrique in charge of Brenda.
Later that night, Betty had gone to bed early, but her restless mind kept her awake. She checked the time and realized it was already well past midnight.
After some thought, she decided to contact Kevin and Arnold. Without any apps on her phone and unable to download them herself, the two had already gone to sleep, only to be jolted awake by Betty's call.
The two groggy brothers reluctantly got up and drove to the hotel to pick Betty up. They then headed to the hospital together.
In the car, Arnold rubbed his tired eyes. "Mom, it's the middle of the night. What's the rush to go to the hospital?"
Kevin yawned in agreement, "Yeah, couldn't this wait until morning?"
Betty, her expression steely, replied, "Enrique insisted on staying at the hospital and sent my assistant back to the hotel. I just wanted to see how he and Brenda are doing."
Arnold and Kevin's curiosity was piqued; their sleepiness faded. They thought, 'Why the sudden urgency to check on Enrique and Brenda?'
When they arrived at the hospital and reached Brenda's room, they didn't knock. Betty gave Arnold a meaningful glance.
He understood immediately, turning the doorknob. The door wasn't locked.
Despite it being night, the moonlight filtering into the room provided enough illumination.
As they entered, they expected to see Enrique either slumped in a chair or on a makeshift bed on the floor. To their surprise, Enrique was nowhere in sight.
Kevin glanced at the hospital bed and then, eyes wide, tugged at Arnold's sleeve. He pointed towards the bed.
Arnold's eyes widened in shock.
'Could it be what I think it is?' he thought, staring in disbelief.
The commotion caught Betty's attention, and she turned to see what was going on. Her face fell as she realized the situation.
She quickly flicked on the room light and pulled out her phone, starting a video recording.
As the room brightened, Betty saw Enrique holding Brenda in a very intimate embrace.
Kevin and Arnold, seeing the scene, were left speechless. They also began recording with their phones.
They thought, 'No wonder Enrique has faced Mom's wrath and insisted on staying at the hospital, sending her assistant away. This is how he was taking care of Brenda?'
The situation seemed off to them. The sudden light startled Brenda, waking her from her sleep. She opened her eyes, initially annoyed, thinking it was a nurse.
But when she saw the three figures standing in the room, her face turned pale with shock.
She quickly wriggled out of Enrique's arms and pushed him away. Her reaction didn't go unnoticed by the fuming Betty.
Enrique, already jolted awake by the bright light, was further disturbed by Brenda's push. He slowly opened his eyes, "What's going on?"
Seeing the three of them, his fatigue instantly vanished. He sat up abruptly, stammering, "Why are... are you here?"
Betty was livid, her anger almost boiling over. She put away her phone and scanned the room, spotting a mop in the corner.
Without hesitation, she stormed over, grabbing the mop and brandishing it at Enrique.
"How dare you! If I hadn't come, you'd still be hiding this from me!" Her voice was raised in fury, "Is this your idea of taking care of Brenda? You sent my assistant away just to do this?"
Betty had come with the intention of seeing how Enrique was managing Brenda's care, but she never expected to walk in on such an intimate scene. Normally composed, she found herself unable to hold back her anger.
