Chapter 229 Does He Look More Like a Fool?
Brenda's sudden, half-joking comment caught Richard, Arnold, and Kevin off guard.
Richard quickly pieced together why Brenda had been laying it on thick about her recent bad luck. Playing dumb, he chuckled awkwardly, "My luck's a whole different ball game. Even if you snag some, it won't fix your mess."
Brenda laughed it off. "Maybe it will?" she said, sounding a bit shy. "Richard, your luck's killer; just toss me a bit. Give me some good vibes; maybe I won't be such a disaster afterward."
Richard felt like he was losing it, thinking, 'Why was Brenda gunning for my Generational Blessings? Shouldn't she be bugging Enrique, that idiot? Do I look like an easy mark?'
He was on high alert, his face showing even more surprise. Pointing at himself, he uttered, "My luck's that good? Brenda, how'd you figure I'm lucky? I can barely hang onto my job. The company booted me to calm down the angry netizens, and the stars I managed got handed off to other agents."
He sighed deeply and continued, "Honestly, I was thinking of borrowing some luck from someone myself."
Elizabeth hit the nail on the head; Brenda was after their Generational Blessings.
Richard wondered, 'Do I have enough Generational Blessings for Brenda to notice? Does my bad luck mean my Generational Blessings are up for grabs?'
Brenda silently cursed him for being stingy but didn't back down. "Why don't you give it a shot?" she joked again, "You give me some of your Generational Blessings, and I'll let you share in my good luck. Maybe you'll get lucky soon."
Sharing a bit didn't mean giving away much. But she was planning to take half of Richard's Generational Blessings. That should make up for the ones she had lost before.
Richard was freaked out listening to this. If Elizabeth hadn't warned him, he might've just gone along with Brenda's request today. Luckily, his curiosity had led him to visit Elizabeth with Hubert that day. Who knew how much of his Generational Blessings Brenda would've swiped?
He joked back, "That definitely won't work. I've been unlucky lately, and so are you. If we share or swap, won't it just get worse?"
He'd been messing with his phone the whole time. So when Brenda first brought it up, he messaged Hubert to call him. Right on cue, his phone rang.
He immediately picked it up and chatted with Hubert for a few moments.
After hanging up, he stood up and hurriedly said, "Hubert needs me for something. I gotta bounce."
Behind Brenda's back, he gave Arnold and Kevin a look, signaling them to watch their backs. Then he quickly grabbed his phone and dipped.
Seeing Richard bolt from the living room so fast, Arnold and Kevin felt like crying.
Just as the two were contemplating finding an excuse to leave, Brenda turned to Arnold. "Arnold, mind sharing some of your luck with me?" she asked with a smile.
Besides Richard, Arnold had also been giving her the cold shoulder lately. Even when she apologized to him in the hospital abroad, he still heartlessly refused to visit her. Since Richard had bailed, it was Arnold's turn to face the music.
Arnold was the hottest singer around, with a massive fan base and more Generational Blessings than Richard.
Arnold stayed quiet. He'd always been skeptical about this whole Generational Blessings thing. But now that Brenda was asking him, he was starting to believe it. If it was just a joke, she wouldn't have brought it up again after Richard left.
Arnold thought, 'Do I look like an easier target than Kevin?' Then he quickly put on a confused face. "I've been having a rough time too! Because you asked me to find Elizabeth, I almost got ripped apart by netizens on that variety show. I lost a ton of fans. Now I'm as unlucky as Richard," he sighed deeply.
He added, pretending to be all concerned for her, "I better not give it to you. What if I pass my bad luck to you and make things worse?"
Brenda was taken aback but then smiled sweetly. "I'm willing to share your burden so you won't be unlucky anymore," she replied gently.
Arnold was sharp this time, catching the loophole in her words. She didn't say she'd help him share bad luck. It could only mean sharing his good luck.
He looked at Brenda in shock. "You mean you want me to give you my bad luck?" he asked.
Brenda was silent. Her smile almost slipped, but she kept up the act. "Yes, I'll share your burden."
She asked again, "Arnold, can you share some of your luck with me?"
Arnold felt a chill hearing this question again. He awkwardly said, "Then I'll give you my bad luck. You can take it."
Brenda was silent. Who wanted his bad luck? She coaxed, "Alright. Just say you're willing, and I'll share your burden."
As long as Arnold said he was willing, his Generational Blessings could be borrowed by her. But he had to willingly say it, even unconsciously.
Arnold and Kevin realized that she needed him to verbally agree for it to work.
Arnold would be a fool to say he agreed. He shrugged. "I already said, you can take all my bad luck."
Brenda was frustrated. Why was Arnold so stubborn today? Didn't he say he loved her dearly before? Now, he wanted to give her all his bad luck. It was too much.
Turning to Kevin, she smiled and asked, "Kevin, can you share some of your luck with me?"
Silent, Kevin found himself unable to escape either. Looking at her with confusion, he asked, "Didn't Arnold give it to you? Brenda, what's up with you today? Why do you keep asking us to share our luck? And one by one?" He pretended not to understand.
Brenda had already thought of how to answer this. She smiled and replied, "You guys are so good to me. I can't treat you differently. So I asked each of you. Kevin, didn't you say you loved me the most before?"
Her eyes reddened with fake hurt. She looked at him and continued, "I'm just joking, and you won't even humor me and play a game with me?"
She had wanted to ask this earlier. They had promised to always love and spoil her, so why couldn't they even say they were willing now?
