Chapter 115 No Evidence
Hubert was shocked when he saw the surveillance footage.
He didn't buy what the others were saying.
"Someone must've messed with this video," he said.
Richard's face darkened. "Obviously. There's a pro behind Elizabeth and her crew."
Emily's previous evidence had been restored the same way.
He asked the store manager, "Is this the original footage?"
The store manager looked confused. "Yeah, it's the original."
He had pulled it up right in front of them; how could it be fake?
The footage looked normal, and the time was running fine. What could be wrong?
Richard glared at the store manager, even more frustrated.
What did he owe Elizabeth? Why was he always outsmarted by her?
The more he thought about it, the more annoyed he got. He called Eugene.
Eugene was in the chapel of the old house, praying with Janet.
Seeing Richard's call, he hung up.
But Richard kept calling.
He even had Hubert take turns calling.
Janet, annoyed by the noise, said, "Your heart's not at peace. Go handle your business."
Eugene got up. "Yes, Grandma."
After he left, Janet sighed and shook her head.
Eugene walked into the yard and answered the phone when it rang again.
His voice was cold. "What's up?"
Richard got straight to the point. "Hubert and I got beaten up. But someone deleted the footage, so we can't find any evidence. Don't you know someone good at this? We need you to bring them to the bar."
He didn't tell Eugene it was Elizabeth and Rebecca who beat them.
Otherwise, Eugene might not help.
Eugene was surprised. "You and Hubert got beaten up? Who's got the guts to do that?"
Richard wanted to say it was Elizabeth and Rebecca.
But he said, "We didn't expect them to be so bold. Hurry up and bring someone to help."
Eugene, who was close with the two, didn't hesitate. "I'll be right there."
He knew where they were.
He made a call and brought his hacker friend to the bar.
When Eugene arrived at the surveillance room and saw Hubert's bruises, he was stunned.
"Beaten so badly? Who hit you?"
Hubert forced a smile. "No kidding."
Rebecca was really ruthless.
Eugene then looked at Richard. "You don't look beaten up!"
Richard's chest and stomach were still in severe pain.
He said irritably, "I'm worse off than Hubert."
He planned to go to the hospital with Hubert after the surveillance issue was resolved.
Elizabeth had hit him so hard; he wondered if he had been kicked into some kind of illness.
He looked at the man next to Eugene. "This must be your friend. Please help us check and restore the original footage."
Eugene's friend, wearing a baseball cap and mask, nodded without speaking.
He also had a laptop with him.
He copied the footage first, and after more than ten minutes, he said, "There's nothing wrong with this footage."
Richard frowned. "Impossible. We were beaten, but there's nothing in the footage. It was cut."
The man stood up and shrugged. "That means the person who did this is extremely skilled. I can't find any data or traces of tampering or editing."
He said truthfully, "This level of skill could rank in the top three on the international hacker list. If you want to restore it, you'd need the current number one hacker; otherwise, it's hopeless."
He didn't doubt Richard's words.
Top hackers could definitely pull this off.
He could do it too, but not as flawlessly, leaving no trace.
Restoring the original video was out of the question.
Richard's face darkened. "So, it can't be restored at all?"
The man nodded. "Nope."
Unable to help, he left after saying goodbye to Eugene.
Eugene was shocked. His friend was top ten on the international hacker list, yet he couldn't do it.
Curious, he asked, "Who exactly beat you up?"
Not only did they dare to beat these two, but they also had a top-notch hacker backing them.
Richard, clutching his chest, said, "You probably don't want to know."
Then he asked if anyone had recorded the beating.
Everyone shook their heads.
Elizabeth and Rebecca's attack was so sudden and quick that no one thought to record it.
Richard thought for a moment. "Let's go back upstairs and ask if anyone recorded it. I'll pay a high price for it."
So they went back to the second floor.
His friends asked around, but the response was the same.
Everyone was too stunned to think about recording.
Even if someone wanted to, there wasn't enough time.
Hearing this, Richard and Brenda felt frustrated and upset.
The evidence was gone, so they were beaten for nothing?
Hubert wasn't surprised. "If Elizabeth's group could tamper with the surveillance, they probably thought of this too. If someone recorded a video, it might have already been deleted or tampered with. So it's impossible to find evidence."
As Hubert said, Elizabeth had checked for any recordings while dealing with the surveillance.
Finding none, she only tampered with the surveillance.
Richard was furious, gritting his teeth. "She really thought of everything."
He pointed to the people present. "Should I call the police and have them testify?"
Hubert raised an eyebrow. "Do you think that's feasible? The surveillance doesn't show us being beaten. If you report it, Elizabeth's group can say you conspired to frame them. We need evidence. They might even sue you for defamation."
He added, "The surveillance is the evidence, and in the end, you'll be the one who gets hurt."
Richard was silent. What kind of friends did he have? Not only did they not help him come up with a counterattack, but they also said things like this.
He said irritably, "Don't forget, you were also beaten badly by Rebecca. Don't you want her to bow down?"
Hubert looked at Richard meaningfully. "I'm not as stupid as you and Eugene."
Using this method to make Rebecca bow down was foolish.
It would only push her further away, and he might get beaten again.
Eugene was proof of that.
He continued nonchalantly, "Besides, I like being beaten by her. So what? Are you jealous?"
"Jealous of what? I'm not sick." Richard couldn't help but say, "You're a pervert."
Absent-minded, Eugene hadn't been paying attention when they mentioned Elizabeth and Rebecca's names, so now he was confused. "What does this have to do with me?"
Hubert glanced at him. "You just realized?"
Richard, angry, kicked the table.
"Ouch!" He pulled his chest and stomach, making the pain worse.
After kicking, he curled up on the sofa in pain.
Eugene, after hearing their conversation, finally realized. "You mean Elizabeth and Rebecca were the ones who beat you?"
What was going on? He still couldn't believe it.
