Chapter 243 You're Probably Overthinking It
Elizabeth wasn't all that shocked when she saw Richard's message.
Elizabeth: [Given the timing, it's about time he started having bad luck. Giving away something from his body would naturally cause some issues. Being forcibly stripped of a third of his Generational Blessings would temporarily put his body in a state similar to hunger as if something was missing.]
Elizabeth: [He'll feel hungry all day, wanting to eat, but it's not real hunger; it's psychological. It's even more normal for him to want to sleep most of the day. With a third of his Generational Blessings suddenly disappearing so quickly, his body will experience negative effects, and he'll feel mentally drained and want to sleep. These symptoms will gradually disappear once his bad luck starts.]
Richard felt relieved when he saw Elizabeth's message.
Although he had been staying elsewhere, he had a servant keeping an eye on Enrique and Brenda. He received updates on their situation daily.
Knowing that Enrique was either eating or sleeping all day, he was a bit worried that Enrique might dig his own grave.
Hubert: [How did Enrique start having bad luck?]
Richard recalled what servant had reported, he couldn't help but feel a bit sympathetic toward Enrique, but he also thought he deserved it. Arnold and Kevin had previously warned and tried to stop him. But Enrique stubbornly believed that even if he gave some Generational Blessings to Brenda, it wouldn't matter. Now, Richard was just waiting to see how long Enrique could endure before regretting it.
With a hint of schadenfreude, he replied to Hubert's message.
Richard: [Yesterday, he was taking a shower, and the water suddenly stopped halfway through. He waited for the water to come back to finish his shower, then slipped and took a big fall.]
Richard: [At lunch, he ordered takeout and found a fly in it. In the evening, he ordered takeout again and found a cockroach. This morning, he went out and got bitten by a neighbor's dog. When he went to get a rabies shot, a flowerpot fell from above and hit his shoulder.]
Richard: [When he went back to sleep, his bed inexplicably collapsed, and he twisted his back. Previously, he had a location set for filming, but the owner suddenly refused to rent it to them. In short, all sorts of bad luck keep happening to him non-stop.]
After reading Richard's long message, Elizabeth couldn't help but laugh out loud and sent a mocking reply.
Elizabeth: [This kind of bad luck will follow him for another ten or twenty years.]
Giving away a third of his Generational Blessings for the rest of his life meant he would continue to have bad luck.
Richard: [Elizabeth, can the Spellscroll you drew help suppress his bad luck a bit?]
Elizabeth: [It can, but why should I help him? Even if he offered $255, I would only draw it if I felt like it. If he came to buy it, I wouldn't sell it for $25 million. He brought this bad luck upon himself, and I'm enjoying the show too much to help. So I won't draw it for him, and you don't need to worry about it.]
Enrique was the most antagonistic toward her and probably wouldn't believe in her Spellscroll anyway. She wouldn't bother with it.
She had helped the other three brothers because they still had some sense and wouldn't foolishly give away their Generational Blessings. Moreover, she couldn't let Brenda steal that much luck.
Enrique had already given it away, so she was happy to see him suffer the consequences and wouldn't draw a Spellscroll to suppress it.
Richard felt relieved reading this, thankful that Elizabeth had drawn one for them.
Enrique deserved it for bringing this upon himself.
But no matter what, they were still brothers. Watching a bit of drama was fine, but he didn't want Enrique to be unlucky forever.
Richard: [If he regrets it, is there any way to get back that third of his Generational Blessings? Like making Brenda suffer backlash?]
Elizabeth: [If he got tricked or just said it casually, yeah, a spell could fix it. By causing a backlash to Brenda, he could get back most of his Generational Blessings. But he wasn't tricked! He gave it away willingly, so he can't get it back. His own words, his own mess to clean up.]
Richard was at a loss. Enrique was so foolish, and as his brother, he had done his best.
Richard: [Alright, let him keep being unlucky then. But if he's always this unlucky, can he still show up on variety shows?]
Elizabeth wasn't worried about that. She slowly typed her reply.
Elizabeth: [Of course he can. If he's unlucky every day, Brenda will probably lend Pest No. 4 her new divination bracelet before going on the show.]
In the entertainment industry, Enrique was the only one who could protect Brenda so she wouldn't miss the opportunity. She would definitely take Enrique to the next variety show. She might even use Enrique to cause trouble for Elizabeth.
Brenda was also afraid of being dragged down by Enrique, so she would definitely find a way to temporarily suppress his bad luck.
Richard: [Pest No. 4? Do you mean Enrique?]
Elizabeth: [Who else? Don't worry, you're Pest No. 2.]
Richard fell silent.
Hubert: [That's quite fitting.]
Hubert: [@Richard From now on, we'll call you Pest No. 2.]
Richard: [Get lost!]
Hubert had been enjoying the drama more and more lately. He had never expected that Elizabeth would refer to her brothers this way.
Richard: [What about the others? Pest No. 1, Pest No. 3, Pest No. 5?]
Elizabeth: [It seems you all have some self-awareness.]
Richard's mouth twitched. It seemed all five brothers were labeled as "Pest."
Then Richard realized and quickly typed.
Richard: [You mean Brenda's divination bracelet can help suppress Enrique's bad luck? Why hasn't she lent it to Enrique recently?]
Elizabeth: [That divination bracelet can temporarily suppress bad luck when worn. But the effect won't last more than a month.]
Richard: [Suppressing it for a month is still good.]
He thought, 'So, does Brenda have a bit of a conscience toward Enrique? She even thinks of using something to suppress his bad luck.'
Elizabeth: [You're probably overthinking it. This thing only temporarily suppresses bad luck. Once the effect wears off, it will be even worse. For example, if he's only experiencing minor bad luck daily, although frequent, it doesn't cause serious harm.]
Elizabeth: [But after suppressing it for ten days, half a month, or even a month, when it suddenly erupts, it won't be minor bad luck anymore. It's like blowing up a balloon; if you put too much air in, it will eventually explode.]
Elizabeth: [If a divination bracelet could suppress bad luck, Brenda would use it herself to counteract her weakened Generational Blessings. It wouldn't be Enrique's turn.]
She guessed that Brenda probably had some Spellscroll that allowed her to wear the divination bracelet without affecting her Generational Blessings.
Richard immediately retracted his previous thought.
Brenda wasn't being kind; she probably thought Enrique wasn't unlucky enough.
Lending Enrique the divination bracelet was likely to prevent him from dragging her down. But it would make Enrique's situation even worse.
Hubert: [Brenda is really ruthless! Does she think Enrique isn't suffering enough?]
With a sister like Brenda, the Clark family brothers were indeed unlucky.
Richard had the same thought as Hubert.
Elizabeth: [He brought this on himself by spoiling her.]
Hubert: [True, they deserve it.]
Richard fell silent. These two always said things that made him uncomfortable. Then he turned to Hubert.
Richard: [Hubert, just wait and see, how Angela deals with you. When that time comes, I'll tell you the same: you brought it on yourself. You deserve it.]
Rebecca, who had been silently lurking, popped up and agreed.
Rebecca: [Yes, you deserve it too!]
Hubert fell silent. This conversation was going nowhere.
Meanwhile, Enrique was lying down, groaning.
