Chapter 449 He Had Been Tricked

Soon, there was a knock on the door. Elizabeth waved her hand, and the courtyard gate opened automatically. This door had been set up by Zachary; it could be opened from the inside using energy.

A portly, kind-looking old man walked in. Elizabeth knew that his kindness was just a facade; his true nature was ruthless and vicious.

"You're here," she spoke first.

Stanley walked in and looked at Elizabeth. He said, "It seems you've been expecting me."

Elizabeth nodded. "Of course. Did someone send you to seek revenge on me?"

Stanley nodded. "That's right. Judging by your appearance, my student must be fine?"

Elizabeth replied, "He was almost killed by an evil curse, but I saved him. When I left Clifftonshireburg, he was injured by the curse but otherwise safe."

Before Stanley arrived, she had activated the curse on Aaron. Soon, Aaron would suffer from his injuries and slowly become a cripple. Naturally, this had nothing to do with her now that she was in Aevum City. But Ethan was still in Clifftonshireburg, so everyone knew who was responsible.

Stanley felt a bit relieved. He roughly guessed that Aaron was still alive. "How can you prove it?" he asked.

Elizabeth took out her phone and called someone arranged by Alaric. She had them put Aaron on the line. Soon, Aaron answered the call. Elizabeth handed the phone to Stanley. "You can talk to him yourself."

Stanley gave Elizabeth a deep look. "You're quite impressive." She seemed to have significant influence in the special department.

Elizabeth smiled. "Thanks for the compliment!"

Stanley then took the phone and chatted with Aaron. The more they talked, the colder his expression became. After hanging up, he no longer had a smile on his face. Ethan dared to scheme against them like this; he must pay the price.

Stanley asked directly, "What do you want in exchange for my student's release?"

Elizabeth and her team had protected Aaron, keeping him alive and faking his death for his safety. This left room for negotiation. This wasn't his territory, and there were people here as strong as him. The special department wasn't a place he could force his way into, so he hoped for a peaceful resolution.

Elizabeth knew Stanley was a smart man. She replied, "You'll have to go to Clifftonshireburg to see your student first, then talk to Mr. Voss."

Stanley had many valuable items, and they intended to make him pay a high price to get Aaron back. It was clear that Stanley valued Aaron highly. It seemed to be more than just a teacher-student relationship. Moreover, they were in the wrong, so exchanging resources for Aaron was necessary.

Stanley felt a bit frustrated. He knew he would have to pay a lot to bring Aaron back. He looked at Elizabeth and suddenly asked, "You were the one who captured Aaron and took him to the special department, right?"

Elizabeth raised an eyebrow. "Yes, I did. What, he tried to kill me, and I can't fight back? Are you here to cause trouble for me?"

If Stanley wanted to make a move, she wasn't afraid. She even wanted to test Stanley's strength. After all, without a mortal grudge, they didn't need to fight to the death. Besides, if they didn't fight, how would the little Aether Serpent get to feast on a meal filled with evil energy?

Stanley saw that Elizabeth wasn't afraid; instead, she seemed eager to fight him. He couldn't help but twitch his mouth. Elizabeth was either too young and impulsive or had some tricks up her sleeve.

Stanley replied slowly, "Not exactly causing trouble, but since I'm here, I do want to spar with you." He also wanted to test Elizabeth's strength and teach her a lesson. Although Aaron had made the first move, he didn't care about that. He only knew that Aaron had been captured by the special department and almost died. If it weren't for Elizabeth, he and Aaron wouldn't have been schemed against. So he harbored some resentment toward Elizabeth.

Elizabeth could see Stanley's thoughts. She knew these people didn't care about reason. Morality meant nothing to them. She smiled, but her eyes were cold. "Alright, I've never dueled a grand evil wizard before. Please, enlighten me."

Both were decisive and immediately started to move. Stanley first used evil witchcraft to attack Elizabeth. But she easily neutralized it. She even exuded the aura of a high-level diviner.

Stanley's expression changed. "You've reached this level; you truly are a genius among geniuses."

No wonder she could resist Ethan's evil curse. Such a genius, he really wanted to destroy her and turn her into his puppet. But this was Aevum City, Zachary's territory, so he had to suppress that thought. Then he raised his finger, and a flying head flew out from a leather pouch at his waist. The flying head had its eyes open, looking fierce. It let out a chilling laugh.

Elizabeth knew this was the Black Magic of the Flying Head. She remained calm and took out a special pen from her bag. She channeled her energy and drew a Spellscroll in the air. Then she sent the completed Spellscroll flying. It successfully stopped the flying head from lunging at her.

Elizabeth then pointed her finger at the flying head. She demanded. "Freeze!" The Spellscroll landed on the flying head's forehead, freezing it in mid-air.

Stanley's expression changed. "You can draw such a void Spellscroll." She had only recently become a high-level diviner. Elizabeth's talent was terrifying.

Elizabeth smiled at him. "Scared? Sorry about that." However, she drew another void Spellscroll and sent it straight at Stanley.

Stanley immediately took out a puppet artifact to block it. Although the Spellscroll dissipated, his artifact was also shattered.

Stanley's expression was grim, and he felt a sense of dread toward Elizabeth. He had underestimated her before. If he backed down now, it would be too humiliating. In that case, he had to use his best techniques. He let out a few strange cries. Then, from the leather pouch at his waist, a swarm of poisonous insects emerged. They crawled densely on the ground, heading toward Elizabeth.

Elizabeth's eyes lit up; the little Aether Serpent's food had arrived. She smiled and nodded at Stanley. "Thanks!"

Stanley was puzzled by Elizabeth's gesture. He released so many poisonous insects to attack her, so why was she thanking him?

But soon, he understood. A red light flew out from Elizabeth's wrist. It swept over the ground, and a pile of poisonous insects disappeared. Another sweep, and another pile vanished.

Stanley fell silent. He had been tricked.
