Chapter 385 Elizabeth is Deliberately Avoiding Me

Elizabeth quickly got the lowdown on Betty's situation because Richard wouldn't stop yapping about it in the group chat. Even though he didn't tag her, it was obvious he wanted her to hear. She just shrugged it off; no way was she getting involved.

Today, Richard was at it again in the group chat, saying even the top divination master from Aevum City couldn't help. The family was thinking about calling in Bradley, and if that didn't work, they'd try Zachary.

Elizabeth doubted Bradley would step in, and she was sure Zachary wouldn't. She knew Zachary avoided drama, especially since he had a beef with Betty because of her. Even if he could help, he'd probably choose not to, but she kept quiet in the chat.

She had a thought and tagged Richard in the group chat.

Elizabeth: [Mr. McDonald's got some serious skills. If he helps, there's still a shot.]

She was curious to see if Bradley would actually step up.

Richard was surprised to see Elizabeth chime in.

Richard: [Dad went to the Mystic Divination Academy today to try and get Mr. McDonald.]

Richard was freaked out by Betty's condition. Seeing her in constant pain and itching was driving him nuts.

Later that evening, Elizabeth got a notification and saw a message from Richard in the group chat.

Richard: [Mr. McDonald is in seclusion and isn't seeing anyone. Dad couldn't get him.]

Elizabeth smirked at the message. Was he really in seclusion, or just dodging them? She figured it was the latter. He probably didn't want to deal with Betty or face that evil wizard, or maybe he had other reasons.

Three days ago, Bradley had messaged her, inviting her to visit the Mystic Divination Academy when she had time.

Elizabeth: [Then there's nothing we can do.]

Richard tentatively asked: [Do you think there's any hope if we invite Mr. Murphy?]

Elizabeth: [I'm not sure about that either. You should give it a shot yourselves.]

But if Zachary refused, Betty might blame her again. Not that she cared.

Paul came back from the Mystic Divination Academy empty-handed. Betty was disappointed, so she asked Paul to try reaching out to Zachary.

She knew if she went herself, Zachary would probably ignore her. Paul had no choice but to contact Zachary. But as soon as he mentioned Betty's situation, Zachary flat-out refused.

Paul didn't give up and kept promising he could meet Zachary's demands, whether it was money or anything else. But Zachary still said no, not only hanging up but also blocking Paul, making it clear he wanted nothing to do with the Clark Family.

Paul had kind of expected this. He told Betty, "There's nothing we can do. We just have to wait for the president of the Divination Association to come out of seclusion or for the vice president to return and help you."

Betty was super anxious. "How long will this take? I'm in pain every day and too embarrassed to go out. If this drags on, it'll mess up my body and shorten my life. Zachary is so powerful, but he won't help."

She couldn't help but wonder, "Is he refusing because of Elizabeth?"

Paul quickly reassured her, "Probably not. Powerful divination masters like Zachary have weird personalities. He might just not want to help."

But Betty shook her head, "You don't have to lie to me. It's definitely because of Elizabeth."

Her resentment toward Elizabeth, which had cooled down, flared up again. She screamed, "She won't help me herself and won't let others help me. How can she be so heartless? She just wants to see me suffer so she can be happy."

Richard saw Betty's meltdown and sighed, "Mom, it can't be that bad. Elizabeth's pretty blunt. If she didn't want Zachary to help you, she'd just say it."

But Betty wasn't having it. "How could it not be? She's doing this on purpose. Just because I used to spoil Brenda, she wants revenge. And you, instead of helping me, you just spout useless words. I should've tossed you out the moment you were born."

She screamed, her eyes red, "No, I shouldn't have given birth to you ungrateful brats."

From her sons to Elizabeth, none of them were considerate, only making her angrier. She couldn't help but think of Brenda. If it were Brenda, she'd be here comforting her. So she started yelling at her sons to vent.

Richard and the others didn't expect Betty's anger to turn on them. They exchanged glances and bolted. Only Enrique, stuck in his wheelchair, was left to endure. He thought helplessly, 'These brothers are no good.'

Betty just needed someone to lash out at, so when the other three sons ran away, and she didn't dare to scold Paul, she took it out on Enrique.

After scolding him, she felt a bit better but was still worried about the poison in her body. She couldn't help but use the house phone to call Elizabeth, hoping she'd talk to Zachary. But when she called, she found the house phone was also blocked.

Betty was livid, "Elizabeth is deliberately avoiding me. How did I give birth to such ungrateful children?"

Enrique, already upset and frustrated from being scolded, couldn't help but retort, "Isn't it your own doing, Mom? Brenda is just like you, never thinking it's your fault, always blaming others."

A few days ago, he had received a voice message from Brenda. She called him heartless and vicious, blaming him for breaking the curse against her, which left him speechless. Of course, she also cursed Elizabeth. Seeing Betty like this today, he couldn't help but think of Brenda.

"Honestly, you and Brenda are more like mother and daughter than Elizabeth," said Enrique.

Betty's face turned blue with anger. She quickly grabbed a mop and started hitting Enrique. "I'll beat you, you ungrateful child, you insolent scoundrel who dares to defy me."

Enrique, sitting in a wheelchair, couldn't move much and didn't dare to. His arm got hit a few times.

He hissed, "I just told the truth; do you have to hit me for that?"

Then he got hit a few more times and instinctively tried to dodge, twisting his back. The sudden pain almost made him pass out. He shouted, "Mom, I'm your son. If you want me paralyzed for the rest of my life, keep hitting me."

Betty was indeed hurt by Enrique's words. He compared her to Brenda, what did he think of her? Plus, she was tormented by the poison, losing her sanity.

Raising the mop to hit again, she was stopped by Paul, who quickly got up.

He disapprovingly looked at Betty. "Enough, can you stop this nonsense?"

Betty broke down and screamed, "Nonsense? How am I being nonsense? You'll be happy if I die, right?"

Paul, seeing this, suppressed his anger and hugged her. "Don't overthink. We just want you to get better. I'll find a way to get someone to help you with the poison."

Then he coaxed her gently, while holding Betty in his arms as they went upstairs, to prevent her from taking out her anger on Enrique any further.

Another ten days passed.

Brenda was released from the Divination Association and returned to the Clark Family.
