Chapter 199 Elizabeth Will Never be Part of Our Family
After leaving the Internet café, Elizabeth booked a room at a star-rated hotel. This time, to save more money for fun, they decided to share rooms.
Elizabeth and Nancy, Ronald and Marlon, Raymond and Gilbert stayed together. They went back to the hotel to rest.
On the other side, Natalie looked at the three and declared, "We only have enough money for food. We can't afford to stay at yesterday's hotel. So we need to make some money."
Eugene and the other two were quite sad.
Kevin said, "At this time, there won't be many people at the tourist spots, right?"
Arnold suggested, "How about we just eat something cheap and save the money for the hotel?"
Eugene added, "If the money is really not enough, we can stay at a cheaper hotel."
They didn't feel like working hard today.
Natalie remained silent. Whoever was grouped with these three was unlucky.
Luckily, she wasn't really here to work hard to gain popularity. Otherwise, she would have been driven mad by them.
This was fine, too. Since the three insisted on being so lazy, she could only lie flat with them.
If she didn't become popular, it wouldn't be her fault.
So she said with a resigned smile, masking her true feelings. "Alright, as long as you guys are happy."
Then they switched to a hotel that was much lower in grade than yesterday's.
After booking the hotel, Natalie deliberately asked the three, "Your former teammate is injured and in the hospital. Since you're not working today, do you want to visit her?"
She knew Brenda was probably watching the livestream, and this was her way of causing a ruckus.
Kevin, Eugene, and Arnold exchanged glances, their expressions a mix of annoyance and discomfort.
Eugene bluntly replied, "I need to avoid suspicion. If there's another rumor about me and her, I can't handle it." This was his way of publicly distancing himself from Brenda.
Eugene could be so straightforward, but Kevin and Arnold couldn't.
Arnold thought momentarily and put on a pained expression. "I'm still upset about what happened before. I'll go to the hospital when I feel better." His words carried a hidden implication, hinting at the sense of betrayal he experienced from Brenda, someone who had once held a close bond similar to that of a sister.
Kevin, not wanting to be left out, clutched his stomach. "I drank too much before, and now my stomach hurts. I'll go back to the hotel to rest. Maybe tonight or tomorrow," he said.
By then, if Eugene and Arnold didn't go, he wouldn't either.
If they went, they would all go together, avoiding the awkwardness of going alone.
Natalie knew the three would react this way.
She smiled. "If you guys aren't going to visit, let's go back to the hotel."
The three were relieved that she didn't press the issue.
Then they took a cab to the hotel together.
Brenda, who was watching the livestream, was indeed furious.
The suggestion of a hospital visit by Natalie took her by surprise, and she certainly didn't anticipate such a blunt refusal from Eugene and the brothers. Their actions felt like a public shunning, leaving her feeling bewildered and rejected in front of others.
The more they displayed such behavior, the stronger her resolve grew not to let them get away with it. While they all harbored hopes of winning back Elizabeth, she vowed that it would only happen over her dead body.
If Eugene wanted to get rid of her, it would depend on whether she was willing.
She had a plan, a damn good one, and she was confident that Eugene wouldn't escape her grasp.
So, she cried and called Amy. She told Amy that she had no one to take care of her in the hospital and felt particularly pitiful.
She also hinted that Eugene was deliberately avoiding her for Elizabeth. Since she was hospitalized, he hadn't visited her once.
Amy, who hadn't watched the livestream, felt sorry for Brenda after hearing her complaints.
She assured Brenda that she would make Eugene take care of her.
Brenda thanked her profusely and then sent Eugene's current phone number to Amy.
Eugene had just gotten to the hotel room when his phone rang.
Recognizing the number, he sighed and let it ring. However, Amy was persistent, and after several attempts, he finally answered. "Hello?"
He pretended not to know whose number it was.
"It's me," Amy snapped, not hiding her irritation.
Feigning surprise, Eugene replied, "Mom, how did you get this number? What's up?"
Amy asked, displeased, "You didn't save my number?"
She was very upset that Eugene didn't remember her number.
Eugene replied, "I saved your number on my other phone."
Amy suddenly asked, "Do you remember Elizabeth's number?"
Eugene did remember, but he lied, "No, I usually just look through my contacts. I don't memorize numbers."
He knew Amy was strong-willed and would be unhappy if things didn't go her way. So, this was the only answer that would satisfy her.
Amy, somewhat mollified, moved on to her main point. "Elizabeth seriously injured Brenda. Why aren't you taking care of her in the hospital?"
Eugene frowned. "Did Brenda tell you Elizabeth hurt her?"
Amy snorted and shot back, "I found out by watching the live-stream replay. Brenda is so kind. How could she curse Elizabeth? And she doesn't know witchcraft. It's Elizabeth who likes them."
Amy continued, "It's obvious that Elizabeth harmed Brenda and then distorted the truth in the livestream, causing Brenda to be scolded by so many people. Elizabeth is simply too vicious."
Eugene was stunned. "It was Brenda who cursed Elizabeth and got hurt by the backlash. Elizabeth dared to swear, but Brenda didn't. Mom, did you misunderstand something?"
Amy sneered. "I watched the livestream replay myself. How could I misunderstand? Swearing isn't something to be taken lightly. Brenda didn't swear because she knew Elizabeth would use it against her. Only you guys would believe Elizabeth."
She whined, "I've told you before, Elizabeth isn't a good person. Now she's leading Rebecca astray and ruining your and Brenda's reputations. Why do you still like Elizabeth? Elizabeth will never be part of our family."
She had always disliked Elizabeth. Besides wanting to pair Brenda with Eugene, she didn't like how much attention Eugene paid to Elizabeth.
Elizabeth hadn't even married into the Baker family yet, and Eugene was already so good to her. If she did, it would be even worse.
As a mother, Amy would have no place in Eugene's heart.
Although she favored Percy more, she still wanted Eugene to hold her in the highest regard. So, she had always obstructed Eugene and Elizabeth.
Brenda was obedient and had a slight resemblance to someone much better than Elizabeth.
Even if Brenda married in and wasn't as favored by Eugene, she would still have her protection.
She had indeed watched the livestream replay and disliked Elizabeth's arrogance even more.
Amy believed Elizabeth was harming Brenda and that Brenda was not at fault.
Eugene couldn't believe Amy would say such foolish things.
