Chapter 215 Inescapable

Seeing Natalie's actions, Elizabeth guessed that Natalie had something important to tell her.

She took the paper and read it.

[My phone is bugged, so I can't speak it directly. For the last episode of the show, they want Brenda to continue participating, so they will find a way to delay the broadcast by a month.]

Elizabeth nodded. She wrote on the paper with a pen: [They insist on having Brenda participate. Are they trying to target me?]

Natalie wrote: [Yes, you and Brenda have a deep connection. They want to target you, and starting with Brenda is the most straightforward and effective way. I've been cursed and can't speak or write about very secretive matters, but I believe if you investigate a bit, you should be able to piece things together. The next episode of the show will likely guide the crew to Seraphim Heights. Be careful!]

Elizabeth was familiar with Seraphim Heights; she had been there a few times with Wayne. It was a city that preserved its ancient appearance. The entire city had no modern buildings, cars were not allowed, and the means of transportation were horse-drawn carriages and ox carts. Divination and other such practices were prevalent.

They must have a purpose for choosing that location.

Elizabeth wrote: [Are you going too?]

Natalie wrote: [If nothing unexpected happens, I will also go. I can't escape it, so I might as well try to break free from so-called fate.]

That was why Natalie didn't suggest that Elizabeth skip the next episode or try to change the location. Even if she escaped this time, what about next time? It was better to anticipate problems and prepare in advance.

Elizabeth nodded in agreement and wrote: [Yes, if you can't escape, then try.] She was in the same situation. The ending in the past life seemed to have been arranged long ago.

This time, if she wanted to keep living and take control of her fate, she had to dive into the situation first and then work hard to break free and turn things around. Of course, she also had scores to settle.

Knowing that the next show would take place in Aevum City gave her a welcome respite, allowing ample time for preparation. Aevum City, perched majestically on Seraphim Heights, was renowned for its rich heritage and timeless beauty. The cityscape was a captivating blend of ancient architecture and enduring traditions, each building echoing tales of a storied past.

Elizabeth wrote: [Thanks for the heads-up!]

Natalie replied: [You're welcome. I was used too. You're the key to cracking this conspiracy, so I want to team up with you. And yes, I'm a fan of yours—no act.]

Natalie genuinely admired Elizabeth's character. She was always straightforward and unflinching in calling out her enemies, leaving them speechless. The way Elizabeth handled her so-called family, dismissing them with ease and dealing with them on her own terms, was inspiring.

Natalie wished she had that kind of courage. Instead, she was timid, often forced into situations she couldn't control. Any resistance she tried to mount was done in secret to avoid harm coming to those she cared about.

She had been following Elizabeth from the first live show, realizing that Elizabeth was everything she longed to be but felt she couldn't become. Her admiration grew, and she became a devoted fan.

Elizabeth smiled slightly: [Thanks for your support!]

She appreciated and cherished all her fans. After all, a star's journey was supported not just by their company, their team, and their talent but crucially by their fans. They helped her rise higher.

Back in her home country, she was planning to do something special to give back to her fans.

Natalie wrote: [If you have any questions, ask away. I'll tell you whatever I can.]

Elizabeth pondered and then asked: [Is your biological father the same as your current dad?]

Natalie shook her head: [No, Brenda and I are actually the illegitimate children my mom had behind my dad's back.]

Elizabeth responded: [So Samuel isn't your dad's biological child either?]

Natalie replied: [He's also an illegitimate child.]

Elizabeth then asked: [Have you ever met your biological father?]

Natalie wrote: [No, but I suspect he's the Ethan my mom always talked about as being good to us. I'm controlled through phone calls and letters. The little secrets I know are sealed by curses, so I can't speak or write about them.]

Elizabeth was taken aback. She hadn't expected their biological father to be so enigmatic that they had never even met him. The fact that they were under a curse that prevented them from speaking or writing about it wasn't surprising, though. She knew such curses existed.

Curses placed at birth were the most potent and hardest to break, requiring numerous conditions to undo. Curses cast later in life were simpler to lift. Given Natalie's and her siblings' situation, it seemed likely that their biological father had placed this curse on them right from birth, probably to prevent them from rebelling or revealing any secrets.

Elizabeth thought, 'Such dark and forbidden curses are the domain of specialized departments and divination societies. No wonder Samuel appeared so defiant even when captured; with a curse in place, it is almost impossible for anyone to extract information from him.'

Elizabeth wrote: [Does Brenda know about this?]

Natalie replied: [She doesn't even know she's an illegitimate child. How could she possibly know about this?]

She added: [Samuel is the one who handles the control over her.]

Natalie's frustration with Brenda's disdain for Vincent made sense now. It was clear that Samuel's manipulation was the source of her anger.

Elizabeth thought about it and agreed. Although Brenda had her share of cunning and scheming, she was naive compared to Percy and Natalie. In fact, she seemed completely unaware of her own ignorance.

Elizabeth asked: [Have you learned divination?]

Natalie answered: [No, neither Brenda nor I have ever learned it. The curse also blocks us from acquiring such skills. If we tried to learn them secretly, we'd suffer backlash. We're nothing more than puppets, created to fulfill his purpose and kept under control.]

Elizabeth found herself puzzled.

She thought, 'If the curse prevents learning divination, why are Percy and Samuel able to practice it?'

She decided to ask: [Isn't Samuel quite skilled in divination?]

As for Percy, Elizabeth wasn't sure if Natalie knew about him, and she was uncertain whether Percy would be an ally or a hidden adversary. So, she chose not to bring him up.

Natalie responded: [The curse only affects daughters. It doesn't apply to sons like Percy. I think it's because we were created for different purposes compared to them. Our roles and control mechanisms vary.]

Elizabeth nodded in understanding. It made sense now why Angela, too, was unable to learn divination.

Elizabeth asked: [Do you know of any other siblings besides the three of you?]

Natalie replied: [I can guess that there are likely many more siblings like us, but I have no idea who they are. The people behind this don't want us to know. We haven't had any contact with the others; all I know are the three of us. By the way, besides Brenda and me, there might be others in the entertainment industry as well. I have a feeling they really need the Generational Blessings that come from faith. The more popular we become and the better we do in the industry, the more pronounced these blessings will be. But I suspect that the people pulling the strings behind us have sinister motives. The deeper our Generational Blessings, the more advantageous it is for them. It's like we're being fattened up, like pigs waiting to be slaughtered when we're at our peak.]
