Chapter 223 You Really Have Some Self-Awareness
Eugene's mind was blown; Amy actually pulled that off. He shot Rebecca a puzzled look. "Does Dad know?"
Rebecca just smirked. "Dad's way sharper than you," she said.
But she didn't wanna dive into Orlando stuff, worried Eugene might spill the beans about him someday.
Even though they dropped some major hints, Eugene probably wouldn't mess up again, but they still had to be careful around him.
Elizabeth chimed in, "He's got it worse than you guys. He's the one taking on your family's Generational Blessings, meant for a short life. His future's a big question mark, and he'll have to deal with the pain of being a medium, something regular folks can't handle."
That's why Percy wanted to step up and protect himself. Natalie, too, didn't wanna be controlled and ended up getting caught in the mess, so she had to find a way to break free from the conspiracy.
Only then could they break free from the fate others had planned for them and live their own lives.
People like Percy and Natalie wanted to take control of their destinies, shaping their futures with their own hands. Naturally, there were also people like Brenda and Angela who saw things differently.
They figured if they could snag Generational Blessings from others to level up, why not? They weren't about that ordinary life; they craved power, prestige, and status.
Not down for the grind and hating the idea of being average, they chose the easy way out.
So they followed the calculated and arranged path of those behind them. It was their greed, selfishness, and cruelty at play. They were totally cool with being used by others.
This willingness to be used meant they never tried to break free from their fates or considered the impact of their actions on others.
If Brenda didn't take Elizabeth's Generational Blessings or if Angela didn't take Rebecca's, neither of them would have faced death. Their choices were driven by their own desires, and ultimately, it was their decisions that led them down this dark path.
Eugene felt super conflicted. He asked quietly, "Is there still hope for Percy?" He didn't hate Percy; in fact, he couldn't help but feel sorry for him.
Turns out Amy's favoritism was so intense, it was pushing Percy toward a dead end.
Elizabeth replied calmly, "It depends on him."
If Percy wanted to save himself and hadn't done anything bad before, everyone working together still had hope.
But if Percy helped the people behind him to harm others, then he was done for.
Elizabeth stated, "Do more good deeds. Otherwise, the backlash is no joke."
Then she glanced at Richard and said, "Your current misfortune is also the backlash of the bad things you did. Don't push all the blame onto Brenda and me."
If Richard hadn't helped those two harm Emily, how would she have gotten the leverage to fight back?
He wouldn't have been thrown out by the company and blacklisted now.
Richard touched his nose and muttered, "I didn't put all the blame on you two." He had indeed done a lot of wrong things before.
And he didn't believe in backlash before, but after experiencing it himself, he believed it. So he couldn't help but ask, "Is it too late for me to make amends?"
Elizabeth replied, "You haven't taken any lives or caused anyone's death, so it's not too late to make amends. Try to make up for the people you've hurt and do more good deeds."
Richard got the gist. "Yeah, I get it."
Hubert gave him a playful slap on the shoulder. "Rich, being a good guy is your new gig. Being bad was your jam, but being good? That's a whole new ball game."
Eugene couldn't help but blurt out, "Yeah, he used to be a real piece of work, so turning over a new leaf is gonna be tough for him."
Doing good deeds was a piece of cake; Richard had plenty of cash. He could easily donate every year or help people out on purpose.
Richard's face darkened as he snapped, "Get lost, all of you." With a snort, he added, "You think you're saints keeping me company?"
Rebecca clapped, "Well said."
Elizabeth added, "You really know yourself!"
The three of them went quiet.
Richard glared at Hubert and Eugene. "You two zip it. I got something to say."
He turned to Elizabeth. "How do we get rid of Brenda?"
Richard used to spoil Brenda, but now she made his skin crawl.
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow. "How should I know how to ditch Brenda? Figure it out yourselves."
All she could do was give them a heads-up. She wasn't about to get involved. And she definitely wasn't gonna give them advice.
Should she suggest they kick Brenda out of the Clark family? If she did, they might blame her later for meddling. Or think she cared too much.
Besides, it was better for them to get burned by Brenda and learn the hard way. Didn't Richard, Arnold, and Kevin get a lot sharper after dealing with her?
Richard was stumped, unsure how to figure it out, especially since he could sense Elizabeth's lack of enthusiasm to assist them. Sensing her reluctance, he decided not to press the matter and instead inquired, "Can I tell the rest of the family about what we talked about today?"
Elizabeth thought for a moment before she speaking, "It's cool to tell Mr. Clark, Arnold, and Kevin." They already had their suspicions about Brenda. Letting them know would help prevent them from accidentally giving her Generational Blessings.
She continued, "Don't tell the others for now."
Paul was level-headed about Brenda, so he wouldn't fall for her tricks.
Betty, Loren, and Enrique hadn't been directly burned by Brenda yet. So they might still be soft-hearted and love Brenda.
She emphasized, "Especially Enrique, don't tell him. Do you think he wouldn't run straight to Brenda? He's not thinking straight yet."
Richard agreed, "Yeah, Enrique would totally do something that dumb." Otherwise, he wouldn't have made Betty faint with anger and end up hospitalized abroad for Brenda.
He was conflicted. "But if we don't tell him, Brenda might screw him over," he muttered.
They couldn't just watch Enrique get hurt.
Elizabeth rolled her eyes. "You think telling him will stop Brenda from scheming? If he were that smart, he wouldn't have been such a fool abroad. I heard he's planning to join Brenda on the next reality show. Don't stop him. Let him get played. Maybe he'll wake up. Arnold took the fall for Brenda in the last reality show. Now, doesn't he see her more clearly?"
She added meaningfully, "So it's best to let him learn the hard way. Don't worry, as long as your Generational Blessings aren't completely drained, there won't be any life-threatening danger."
