Chapter 289 It's Really Hard to Accept

Brenda knew she had to clear things up, or folks might think she was mooching off Generational Blessings or something, and start avoiding her like the plague.

She definitely didn't want Enrique to find out she knew he'd get hit with bad luck after she borrowed his Generational Blessings.

And she really didn't want Raymond and Zachary to get the wrong idea about her.

Kevin saw Brenda's shocked face and thought she was a real pro at acting. No wonder she wanted to break into Hollywood; it'd be a total waste of her skills otherwise. He wasn't sure if everyone else bought it, but he was definitely skeptical that she didn't know Enrique would get jinxed after she borrowed the Generational Blessings.

Raymond wasn't buying it either, saying, "You sound like you're putting on a show. You're feeling guilty, that's why you're in such a rush to explain."

Elizabeth, who was about to chime in, kept quiet. Raymond had already said what she was thinking.

Brenda stayed silent. Why was it always Raymond? Why did he always have to butt in and challenge her? If he stayed silent for once, no one would mistake him for being mute.

She looked hurt as she explained, "I really didn't know before."

Raymond shot back, "Well, I don't believe you, and I bet most people here don't either." He gave Enrique a knowing look, adding, "Only a fool would believe that."

Enrique stayed quiet. Why was Raymond staring at him? If he said he had no doubts, he'd be lying. But he really didn't want to think badly of Brenda.

He quickly changed the subject and asked Zachary, "Mr. Murphy, can you help sort this out?"

Zachary raised an eyebrow, asking, "Do you really want to fix this?"

Enrique replied, "Of course, I don't want to be unlucky anymore."

Zachary said with a hint of mystery, "Fixing it won't be easy."

Frowning, Enrique asked, "Is it really that hard to fix? So, if I just keep wearing this bracelet, can I avoid more bad luck?" If wearing it could keep the bad luck at bay, even if it was tough to fix, it'd be worth it.

Elizabeth thought Enrique finally asked a good question. After all his questions, he finally hit the nail on the head.

But this question almost made Brenda's face change. She was acutely aware of the limited duration of the bracelet's influence and the consequences that would follow once its effects wore off.

She looked up at Zachary with pleading eyes. She begged him not to spill the beans in front of everyone and the live broadcast, nor to let Enrique know. Otherwise, would he still trust her? She didn't want Enrique to end up like Richard, Arnold, and Kevin.

Zachary saw the plea in Brenda's eyes but ignored it.

He looked at Enrique with amusement, asking, "Do you really think this divination bracelet can help you forever? If that were the case, wouldn't everyone be borrowing Generational Blessings or lending them out?"

Enrique's heart sank, and he couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Murphy, are you saying this divination bracelet won't always work?"

Zachary nodded, saying, "Of course. Not only won't it always work, but it'll also make you even more unlucky afterward."

Enrique was shocked and asked, "Why? But since I started wearing it, I haven't been as unlucky lately!"

Zachary explained, "Because this bracelet temporarily suppresses your bad luck. It can help you for about a month. After that, it's useless. And then, the bad luck that was suppressed will come back to you with a vengeance. So your bad luck will double, or even multiply several times."

Then he added, "So, you'll be even more unlucky."

Enrique's face changed as he asked, "Will it really be like that?" He really didn't know, and he didn't expect it to be like that. Before, he treated this bracelet like a treasure, but now it felt like a ticking time bomb.

Zachary replied, "Everything's got its own flow, man. Your Generational Blessings went to Brenda, so you lost 'em. How could you think some trinket would keep 'em intact?"

Then he added, "If that were the case, why wouldn't she just use the bracelet to squash her own bad luck instead of borrowing your luck?"

Enrique felt like he was losing it, asking, "So you're saying my Generational Blessings are gone, no charm can help, and I'm stuck being this unlucky?"

Zachary nodded. "Yep. To be clear, you won't always be this unlucky. For the next ten to twenty years, you'll be as unlucky as you were before the bracelet. After that, things might get a bit better."

Enrique went silent. He'd only been unlucky for ten to twenty days before and was already at his wit's end. Ten to twenty years of this? He'd lose it for sure.

He couldn't help but ask, "If I ditch the bracelet, how bad will my doubled bad luck be?"

Zachary looked him in the eye, saying, "Based on your fate, after the bracelet stops working, you'll have a major car accident, making your already messed-up body worse. You'll be bedridden for two to three months. In the hospital, a nurse will spill hot water on you. You'll hit something sharp in the bathroom and get a head injury. Choking on water and food will be your daily routine. You won't die, but the bad luck will make you feel half-dead. Wearing the bracelet for a month usually causes a three to four times rebound. So, your super bad luck will last three to four months before it eases up."

Enrique was speechless, his scalp tingling as he listened.

Everyone else looked at Enrique with pity.

Enrique was really in a tough spot!

But it seemed like he had it coming; after all, he chose to lend his luck to Brenda.

Kevin, Arnold, and Richard, who were watching the live stream, were super grateful they hadn't fallen for it. They'd been through that kind of bad luck, and it could really drive someone nuts.

Enrique looked at Elizabeth in disbelief. He didn't know whether to trust Zachary's words.

Elizabeth raised an eyebrow, saying, "Everything he said is spot on."

Zachary's skills were legit; he saw all of Enrique's future bad luck. What surprised her was that he spilled the truth in front of everyone. He exposed Brenda's lie and the truth about the bracelet's rebound. By doing so, he put Brenda on blast.

Did he not know Brenda, or did he just not care about dealing with her, so he told Enrique the truth?

Or was he deliberately throwing Brenda under the bus to mess with her?

She couldn't be sure yet.

Enrique knew Elizabeth's no-nonsense attitude; she called it like she saw it. So, it meant he really was going to be that unlucky.

He couldn't help but look at Brenda, saying, "Brenda, when you gave me this bracelet, you didn't say any of this. You said it was your protective charm, and you didn't want to see me unlucky, so you gave it to me. You also said that after wearing it, I wouldn't be unlucky anymore.

So now, tell me, why does this bracelet only work for a month? And why does my bad luck rebound and double after a month?"

He'd experienced that kind of bad luck firsthand, and it still freaked him out. Not to mention it would multiply several times—wouldn't that really make him suffer?

Was Brenda lying to him before?

He found it hard to accept and wanted to hear her side of the story.
