Chapter 363 Why Did You Treat Me That Way?

Betty saw Paul and Enrique walk in and just stared at them, not showing any emotion.

Enrique turned to Paul and said, "Dad, you've had a long day. How about you take Mom back to the hotel to rest?"

Paul got the hint right away—Enrique didn't want Betty to keep talking.

He sighed and said, "No rush, let's sit for a bit first." Then he looked at Betty and asked, "Did Mrs. Baker leave?"

Betty, still cold, replied, "She came to see Enrique, but Kevin was rude to her. If it were me, I wouldn't want to stay here either."

Kevin muttered, "I didn't do anything wrong."

Betty shot him a glare. "You still don't get it, do you?"

Paul cut in, "Alright, Kevin wasn't totally wrong. Mrs. Baker doesn't get along with Rebecca and just wants to stir up trouble between you and Elizabeth. She doesn't deserve any kindness."

Betty was shocked. "You!"

Paul kept going before she could say more, "You've been all over the place lately. Haven't you noticed something's off?"

Betty hesitated. "I've been a bit irritable, but nothing seems wrong."

Paul didn't hold back, "Elizabeth found out that Mrs. Baker sprayed some perfume that messes with your emotions. It makes you lose it over small stuff. Being around it too much can really mess you up."

He added that last part because he knew Betty cared about her health as much as her pride.

Sure enough, Betty looked surprised and a bit skeptical. "Really? Elizabeth isn't just saying this because she dislikes Mrs. Baker, is she?"

Paul saw that coming. "If something's wrong, a check-up will show it. I'll go with you first thing tomorrow. If there's an issue, you'll see."

Betty felt uneasy but said, "I don't think there's anything wrong with me. I'll get a check-up tomorrow to prove it."

Paul smiled. "Alright, let's see the results together. Then we'll know if the problem is with Elizabeth or Mrs. Baker."

Betty didn't argue and agreed. After sitting for a while, they went back to the hotel.

The next morning.

Paul went with Betty to the hospital for a check-up. The results showed she had an excess hormone that triggered emotional responses, making her irritable and messing with her sleep and mental state. Long-term exposure would harm her body.

Paul wasn't surprised; he trusted Elizabeth's instincts now. But Betty was in a daze after hearing the results. She only snapped out of it when they got back to Enrique's ward.

Then her face turned angry, and she said, "I need to talk to Amy."

She never thought there might actually be some hormone imbalance going on, and the more she thought about it, the more unsettled she got.

Lately, her mood swings had been off the charts; she'd get irritable and agitated for no reason. Nights were no better—she'd wake up in the middle of the night, feeling exhausted and unrefreshed. Turned out, it was all because of some external factor.

No wonder every time she hung out with Amy, she noticed that same delicate fragrance. She always wondered why Amy never changed her perfume. Now she realized Amy had been spraying that scent on purpose, and she had considered Amy a close friend. At that moment, a wave of humiliation and pent-up anger surged within her, begging for release.

Paul thought for a moment and said, "It's good to confront her. Want me to go with you?"

It'd be better for Betty to see Amy's true colors sooner rather than later.

Betty felt embarrassed about being played by Amy. She couldn't let Paul see her like that, so she shook her head. "No need. Kevin, you come with me." She wanted to confront Amy, and it felt safer to bring Kevin along.

Kevin was all in, eager to see the drama unfold. "Sure!"

The two got up to leave.

Paul added, "Kevin, explain to your mom on the way about how Mrs. Baker and Brenda tried to get Elizabeth's hair and blood to use against her with an evil wizard."

Hearing this, Betty stiffened. "They wanted to use an evil wizard against Elizabeth?"

Paul replied, "Yeah, luckily, Elizabeth was smart and didn't let them take her hair and blood, or she would've been in big trouble."

He added, "Neither of them are good people. It's better for you to stay away from them."

Betty felt a bit confused but forced herself to stay calm and nodded. "Okay!"

After leaving, she had Kevin explain everything in detail. Her resentment towards Amy grew even stronger. Amy had tricked her into believing she needed Elizabeth's hair to ward off evil spirits, when really, it was to cause Elizabeth trouble through a soothsayer.

Though Betty wasn't well-versed in divination or sorcery, she'd heard enough disturbing tales about evil wizards. Now, she felt both terrified and relieved; thankfully, she hadn't managed to get Elizabeth's hair for Amy that day, or she would've utterly doomed Elizabeth.

She harbored resentment and dissatisfaction towards Elizabeth, but she never intended for Elizabeth to suffer great harm or meet her demise.

The crucial point was that Amy sought to exploit her to target her own daughter, Elizabeth. If Amy had succeeded, how could she ever face Elizabeth again? If Paul and the boys found out, they'd surely blame her as well.

The more she thought about it, the angrier she got. By the time they reached Amy's hotel, she was already fuming. Kevin could see that Betty was on the verge of exploding. But fortunately, the anger wasn't directed at him.

Amy got up to open the door when she heard the knock. She was surprised to see Betty and Kevin. "Betty, what brings you here?"

Betty replied, "I have something to ask you."

Amy was puzzled but still smiled. "Come in and let's talk."

Betty entered with Kevin but didn't sit down. Instead, she looked at Amy coldly. "Why did you treat me that way?"
