Chapter 370 It Should Be Hard to Hide Soon
Richard brought up the issue with Elizabeth in the group chat, and she quickly figured out what Paul was after, so she gave him a call.
Paul said he wanted to meet up. Elizabeth checked with Zachary, and once he was cool with it, she invited Paul over to Zachary's place. There was no safer spot in all of Aevum City for a chat.
Paul didn't waste any time and drove straight there. As he walked into the yard, he saw Elizabeth and Zachary chilling with some tea. He joined them.
Elizabeth handed him a cup and said, "You wanna talk about the divination association's verdict, right?"
Paul was a bit taken aback by how sharp Elizabeth was. He hadn't even mentioned it yet, and she was already on it.
He nodded. "Yeah!"
Then he repeated what the supervisor had said and handed over the info they had dug up for Elizabeth to check out.
After reading it, Elizabeth sneered, "The person behind Brenda is really slick. They had a scapegoat lined up from the start."
The whole story about Alfonso's wife working as a maid, stealing info, getting caught by Betty, and then having a car accident was definitely staged. It was all set up so that if things ever got discovered, Alfonso would take the fall.
Paul asked, "So Alfonso is just the scapegoat the divination association threw out, and there's someone else pulling the strings?" He had a hunch about this.
Elizabeth nodded. "Yep, Brenda just used Alfonso to get into the Clark Family."
Paul asked seriously, "What should we do to fight back?"
He was tired of being played. Having someone scheming behind his back always made him uneasy. Who knew when he might be targeted again?
Elizabeth thought for a moment and said, "Let's team up to counter them. I feel like this person won't be able to hide much longer."
Besides being repeatedly thwarted and having their plans disrupted, they had also been identified and confirmed to be hiding within the divination association.
"The person behind Brenda must be a high-ranking official with real power in the divination association; otherwise, they couldn't do so much."
She added, "When you get back to Clifftonshireburg, go to the special department and file a complaint. Say you're not happy with how things are handled and that Brenda seems out of control. Ask them to reopen the investigation."
Paul was happy to find that he and Elizabeth were quite alike, something his other sons didn't have, which was a real pity. He couldn't help but think, 'Elizabeth really is my daughter.'
He nodded. "That's what I was thinking too. I'll file the complaint when I get back."
Elizabeth continued, "Not just file a complaint, but also warn them that if they don't give a result within a week, you'll make a scene. Today's verdict will definitely be publicly announced by the divination association."
The people behind Brenda were protecting her to boost her generational blessings. So, she had to stay in the entertainment industry and they had to clear Brenda of her past scandals.
Whether or not the public believed it didn't matter; once her name was cleared, she wouldn't be seen as a disreputable artist anymore. This meant Brenda could keep working in the entertainment industry and securing projects.
She added, "Then post your doubts on Facebook and say you don't accept the result. When the situation blows up and they can't hide it anymore, I don't believe they can control everything. In that case, the person behind Brenda will have to sacrifice a few more important subordinates to take the fall. That would effectively cut off his power. Once we cut off all his power, let's see how he continues to harm people."
The person behind Brenda was powerful, deeply hidden, and had a strong background. Direct confrontation wouldn't work, so they had to take it slow. They needed to eliminate all the people behind Brenda, leaving only him, and then he would be easier to deal with.
This would also divert his attention. Elizabeth needed to prepare for her promotion to a senior diviner soon.
Paul also hated the person behind Brenda. That person not only wanted their Generational Blessings but also caused a rift between them and Elizabeth. He couldn't let these grievances go. He also wanted to eliminate this threat to prevent future troubles.
So he said, "Alright, I'll do as you say."
Paul stayed a bit longer, telling Elizabeth to contact him if she needed anything, and then sensibly left.
After he left, Elizabeth said to Zachary, "Zachary, is the person behind Brenda a seasoned operator? I feel like his arrangements are too thorough, not like it's his first time doing this."
Everything had been anticipated, not like a first-timer, but like someone who did this often. If he wanted to absorb Generational Blessings and convert them into life, he had to keep setting up and doing this continuously. Otherwise, even if he absorbed the Generational Blessings of the Clark Family and the other strategically targeted families, converting them into lifespan, he would have only extended his life by a few decades.
Zachary smiled and refilled her tea. "Smart!"
Elizabeth understood immediately. "Got it!"
Back at the hotel.
Elizabeth called Paul, instructing him to discreetly investigate whether any senior members of the Divination Association had recently appeared to age suddenly. If he found any such individuals, he was to note their names and inform her.
Additionally, she asked him to look into any once-prosperous noble families that had experienced significant decline over the past century, particularly those whose Generational Blessings had drastically diminished, leaving them exceptionally unfortunate. Paul, of course, did not object.
That night, a Facebook account released a complete video featuring Eugene as the main attraction, and it quickly garnered a lot of views.
#Eugene's Mom, Such a Vicious Shrew went straight to the top of the headlines.
Upon seeing it, Amy looked as if her suspicions were confirmed. Unable to resist, she checked the comments and found an overwhelming number of people criticizing her.
Worse still, her main Facebook account was bombarded with insults from Elizabeth's fans and supporters. Although Amy was furious, she was even more concerned that Betty might expose her secondary account. It was only after making it through the night without any revelations that she finally went to sleep with some peace of mind.
The next day, Amy was woken up by a series of notifications. She then checked her phone and her expression darkened instantly; several affluent ladies in her social group were inquiring about her secondary account.
When she checked the headlines, she found that her alt account had indeed been exposed. Furious, she felt an overwhelming urge to confront Betty. Without delay, she contacted the evil wizard, who assured her that he had already sent a venomous insect to afflict Betty. This calmed her rage somewhat, and she anticipated watching Betty suffer.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth checked out of her hotel, rented a shared car outside Aevum City, and drove to the airport. She knew someone would try to intercept her on the way, so she didn't take a taxi to avoid involving others.
