Chapter 219 Such a Relationship
Hubert found Elizabeth's words quite interesting. He asked with a grin, "If I think they're unreliable, should I not let them listen?"
Elizabeth nodded. "Of course. In that case, I'll have to ask them to wait outside." What she wanted to discuss mainly involved Hubert, so naturally, he had to make the decision.
Eugene and Richard remained silent, thinking, 'So, we are that unimportant?' The more it was like this, the more curious they became. Both of them looked at Hubert, giving him constant winks.
Hubert ignored them and said to Elizabeth, "They're reliable enough. Just go ahead and say it. If it's about Angela, it might actually help them to hear it." He had already guessed that Elizabeth must have found something.
Elizabeth said, "Alright, since you don't mind, we'll let them stay."
"Did you know there was something off about Angela?" she inquired, her eyes searching Hubert's face.
Hubert glanced at Rebecca before responding, "I did. That's why I deliberately kept her close, to keep an eye on her."
Elizabeth had suspected as much. She pressed on, "Do you happen to know Angela's exact time of birth?"
Hubert shook his head. "I don't, actually. I just remember her birthday being the same as Rebecca's."
He'd always remembered Rebecca's birthday, having celebrated it with her before.
Elizabeth reached into a folder on the table and pulled out a photograph, sliding it across to Hubert. "Take a look at this. Does anything seem familiar?"
Hubert's eyes widened in surprise as he examined the photo. "Her birth date... it's identical to mine."
He furrowed his brow, "So all her previous information was fabricated?"
Rebecca chimed in, "Didn't you ever check her State ID?"
She had been shocked herself when she first saw Angela's birth certificate, recalling that Angela had claimed to be born at the same time as her when filling out forms at Hubert's company.
Hubert shook his head again. "Never did. But she must have used her State ID when she was hired. We need real names for payroll and such."
He pulled out his phone. "I'll have HR pull up Angela's file."
After a quick call to his overseas HR manager, who was still at work due to the time difference, Hubert received a photo of Angela's State ID copy.
He showed his phone to the women. "Her State ID birthday matches Rebecca's, just as we thought."
Rebecca looked puzzled. "But why doesn't it match her birth certificate?"
Elizabeth's eyes lit up with understanding. "She must have deliberately changed her State ID later."
Hubert and Rebecca exchanged shocked glances. "She changed it on purpose?"
Elizabeth nodded. "That's my suspicion."
She turned to Hubert, her voice laced with curiosity, "Was your birth time just a bit earlier than Angela's, but within an hour?"
Hubert nodded. "Yes, I'm exactly half an hour older than her."
Elizabeth did a quick divination. Then she stated, "That's exactly it."
Hubert realized the gravity of the situation and urged, "Please explain."
Eugene and Richard were confused and looked at Elizabeth.
Elizabeth explained, "Let's put it this way: Angela was born for Hubert. Her birth time was arranged from the start. So after Hubert was born, Angela's mother had a C-section to deliver her, deliberately timing it to match Hubert's birth time."
Rebecca's eyes widened in shock. "So, you're saying that Hubert and Angela are bound by Generational Blessings in a way that affects each other, like a balancing act?"
Hubert looked puzzled. "Bound by Generational Blessings? What does that even mean—this balancing act?"
Then, the realization hit him. "You mean if Angela's Generational Blessings increase, mine would diminish?"
Eugene and Richard exchanged astonished glances.
Elizabeth shook her head. "No, that's not it. After my divination, I found that Hubert and Angela aren't in a balancing act."
She paused for a moment before explaining, "It's more like a parasitic relationship."
Seeing the confusion on their faces, she continued, "Imagine a vine climbing up a tree. Hubert is the tree, and Angela is the vine. The better Hubert's Generational Blessings are, the better Angela's will become too."
Turning to Hubert, Elizabeth asked, "Has Angela been helping you in your career? Has she dug up quite a bit of intel on the Diaz Group for you?"
No wonder Hubert didn't realize there was an issue with Angela's birth details yet still kept her around.
Hubert knew Elizabeth was a skilled diviner, so he wasn't surprised she could uncover this.
He admitted, "Yes, she has been quite helpful over the years. We've had a mutually beneficial relationship. But I also know her intentions aren't entirely pure."
He sensed Angela had feelings for him, but he understood that such feelings were superficial and meaningless.
Angela's approach seemed calculated—she helped him as a way to manipulate him. He was always wary of her.
Yet, he hadn't expected his Generational Blessings and Angela's to be intertwined in this way.
It made sense now why Melissa had brought Angela back and treated her coldly, pushing her toward him.
Hubert asked, "So, does this mean my Generational Blessings won't be taken away by her?"
Elizabeth replied, "While she won't be able to completely take your Generational Blessings, she can siphon off a significant portion of them. If you help her take down the Diaz family, and your Generational Blessings surge, she could end up absorbing at least a third of them, if not more."
She raised an eyebrow and asked, "So, do you think that's a good thing?"
Hubert fell silent.
"Of course it's not a good thing."
The thought of Angela draining so much of his Generational Blessings made him feel sick.
As someone who valued his career greatly, he knew how essential his Generational Blessings were for his success. Losing a third—or even half—of them would undoubtedly make his professional and personal life much more challenging.
"I used to think Angela was placed next to me by Melissa deliberately. That she was meant to help me build up my career, only to turn on me later and take away my achievements. Her ultimate goal might have been to ensure my brother inherited the Diaz family. Is that not the case?"
Hubert thought, 'So, has my initial assessment been completely wrong?'
He knew Angela and Melissa were no ordinary people, and that there were likely diviners working behind the scenes. Angela, besides keeping an eye on him, had her own issues. He suspected Brenda might be the same.
But he hadn't connected the dots between his Generational Blessings and Angela's.
He then remembered something. "If Angela and I share the same birth time, why did she change her State ID to match Rebecca's? Was it to prevent me from discovering that she's siphoning off my Generational Blessings?"
