Chapter 482 Loren Was in for a Rough Ride
A few days ago, Elise hit rock bottom because of her family and tried to take her own life. She really did a number on her wrist, losing a ton of blood. If they hadn't rushed her to the hospital when they did, she wouldn't have made it.
After they saved her, they found out she was pregnant. The Sinclairs, who absolutely doted on Elise, were scared out of their wits. They figured if they kept pushing her, she might try again. With a baby on the way, they felt they had no choice but to back down.
So, they went to talk to Paul. Given Elise's condition, Paul didn't hold much of a grudge against the Sinclair family and agreed to the relationship. The two families even planned an engagement party.
But Betty was furious about the whole thing. She kept showing up at the Clark villa, stirring up trouble for Loren. Today, she crashed the engagement party, slapped Elise in front of everyone, trying to ruin the whole event.
Elizabeth watched a headline video showing Betty slapping Elise, followed by Claire jumping in and dragging Betty into a fight. In a corner of the video, Elizabeth spotted Brenda, disguised as a middle-aged woman in sunglasses, smirking. Elizabeth was sure Brenda had a hand in this mess.
Despite the chaos, the engagement wasn't called off. Claire, who had been on the fence about Elise and Loren's engagement, had a change of heart after Betty's outburst. Since Betty was so against it, Claire decided to support it. After the fight, she even comforted Loren. Betty was eventually dragged out of the hall by Paul's people.
Elizabeth glanced at a photo of Loren, his eyes dark and his face looking awful. She smiled, thinking this was just the beginning; there was more misery in store for him.
After that, Elizabeth buried herself in work at the studio, catching up on months of backlog. One day, her phone rang. It was Hubert. She picked up, and Eugene's voice came through, "Elizabeth, Hubert's in trouble."
Elizabeth was taken aback. She asked, "What happened?"
Eugene explained, "He suddenly passed out while we were having dinner. We rushed him to the hospital, but they couldn't find anything wrong. He won't wake up. We think it might be some kind of curse or spell, so we need your help."
Elizabeth didn't hesitate. She agreed before hanging up, "Alright, I'm on my way." She hurried to the hospital.
In the ward, Eugene and Richard were waiting. Hubert had collapsed during their dinner. When Elizabeth walked in, they both looked relieved. "You're here," they said.
Elizabeth nodded and went straight to Hubert's bedside to examine him. After a thorough check, she inquired, "Was there anything odd about Hubert before he passed out? Not just at dinner, but recently?"
Eugene thought momentarily before answering, "He suddenly did a 180 on Angela. Does that count?"
Richard chimed in, "Yeah, he started bringing Angela around a lot, and it didn't seem like his usual way of just using her. Hubert took over the whole Diaz family and kicked Otis, Melissa, and his brother out. I heard Angela betrayed her mom Melissa and Otis for him. So Hubert kept her around."
Eugene added, "During dinner, he even talked about how tough Angela's had it over the years. He said he wanted to be with her." Not long ago, Hubert was pursuing Rebecca daily, determined to win her back. But now, just a month later, he wanted to be with Angela. This was something Eugene found hard to accept.
Elizabeth's expression changed. "He's under the influence of Heartworm."
Eugene and Richard were stunned. They exclaimed, "Heartworm? What's that?"
Richard muttered, rubbing his temples, "No wonder he suddenly said he wanted to be with Angela, and seemed to genuinely care for her. It was unbelievable." He shook his head in disbelief. Hubert was somewhat like him; if he had no feelings for someone, he would be absolutely heartless. It was unlikely for him to suddenly fall for someone. He had thought Hubert must be out of his mind.
He turned to Elizabeth, his eyes narrowing with suspicion, "Did Angela do this to him?"
Elizabeth nodded. "Angela did it, and she used the strongest kind. Once under its spell, Hubert's feelings for Angela would change, and he'd start falling for her."
Richard was confused, his brows furrowing. "But why did he pass out? Did Angela do that?" Hubert's words during dinner were clearly following Angela's plan. Logically, Angela wouldn't harm him further.
Elizabeth shook her head, her expression serious. "Even though Hubert said those things, he was emotionally resistant. His resistance was so strong that the Heartworm punished him, causing him to faint. Hubert is usually rational and calm, so he hasn't fully succumbed to the Heartworm. The Heartworm needs to control his emotions while he's unconscious."
Eugene asked, worried, "Will he wake up on his own?"
Elizabeth replied, "He will. But once he does, he won't be able to break free and will develop a very submissive love for Angela."
Eugene asked anxiously, "Can we get rid of the Heartworm?"
Elizabeth nodded. "Yes, but only when Angela is close."
She looked at Hubert and remarked, "Though he's calm and rational, he's also a bit arrogant. This was bound to happen."
She had seen this coming for Hubert and was curious to see Angela's next move. She had to admit, Angela was ruthless, wanting to completely control Hubert.
Richard sighed, "He was careless. I warned him about Angela. He didn't take it seriously, thinking her backers were gone and she wasn't a threat."
He shrugged. "Hubert didn't listen and now he's caught, just like Loren."
After being tricked by Brenda and dealt with by Elizabeth, Richard no longer underestimated women. But Hubert and Loren were too confident and got played.
Suddenly, Richard had a thought. His voice rose as he said, "Ethan and his son were caught, but Angela still has Heartworm. Could she have had it all along? If Angela has it, could Brenda have it too?"
Elizabeth gave him a rare nod of approval. "Looks like your brain's working again."
Richard fell silent, feeling uneasy. He couldn't help but pray for Loren. Loren was in for a rough ride.
