Chapter 271 She Was Waiting for Us Here

Elizabeth shot Enrique a look that could freeze fire. "Well, you're better at throwing shade than directing. What's this nonsense about me not letting Brenda go? And me always taking her stuff? Seriously, you think I snatched this variety show gig from her?"

Enrique, feeling the heat, tried to keep his cool. "Isn't that what happened? We're not asking you to be BFFs with Brenda, just to stop messing with her. We're all on the same show. Can't we just play nice?"

Elizabeth's lips curled into a mocking grin. "Nope. I thought we were done with this drama, but since you're so obsessed, let's clear the air. Who's really taking whose stuff? Are you my brothers or hers? Why did I have to cut ties and ditch the fake niceties?" She pulled out her phone. "Perfect timing, they haven't collected our phones yet."

Brenda went pale, and Enrique and Kevin exchanged worried glances. What was Elizabeth up to?

Elizabeth took her sweet time unlocking her phone, and the room went dead silent. Even the livestream chat stopped buzzing.

A male voice came from the phone. "Why didn't you pick up earlier?"

Elizabeth's voice, sharp and cold. "Didn't feel like it."

The guy sounded annoyed. "Can you stop causing trouble?"

Elizabeth shot back, "Can you get a new line? I'm sick of hearing 'stop causing trouble.' Aren't you tired of it too?"

The guy kept pushing, "Brenda wants that variety show spot. What's the big deal if you let her have it? Do you have to make everyone miserable?"

Elizabeth cut him off, "I earned this spot. No way I'm giving it up. If you're unhappy, that's on you."

The recording stopped, and everyone in the room exchanged looks. This was a bombshell from the day Elizabeth ditched the Clark family. Arthur, the producer, was practically jumping with excitement as viewer numbers skyrocketed.

Richard, watching the livestream at home with Arnold, looked like he'd seen a ghost. That was his voice from the day Elizabeth left, when he went upstairs to talk to her.

Arnold was just as shocked. "She actually recorded that day?" he muttered.

Richard's emotions were all over the place. He mumbled, "Yeah, she recorded it."

He had thought Elizabeth was bluffing or maybe just didn't want to go nuclear. Guess he was wrong.

He let out a sigh, a smirk of self-mockery on his face. "I thought she didn't drop it 'cause she still had some sibling love for us, still felt like a Clark. Guess she was just biding her time."

The recording kicked back in, this time with an older woman's voice. "What are you stirring up now? Ever since you came back, it's been nothing but chaos."

Elizabeth's comeback was sharp and defiant. "Did I beg to come back? You guys dragged me here. What trouble did I cause? Brenda wants my stuff, and I'm the bad guy for not handing it over? If that's how you see it, it's Brenda and your family being unreasonable."

The older woman kept at it. "Brenda just likes that variety show. You're the Clark family's young lady now, but Brenda lost that status. Shouldn't you make it up to her? Didn't Richard promise you better resources in return? Do you have to fight with Brenda?"

Arnold's voice chimed in. "You just can't stand seeing Brenda do well, so you target her on purpose."

Enrique's voice followed. "Elizabeth, can't you just be a decent and elegant Clark family young lady? Why cause trouble?"

Elizabeth's voice rose with disdain. "So, taking someone else's stuff turns into me fighting with her? You guys are something else. First off, I never took her things. She took my place and lived the high life as a Clark for years. Second, you lost me back then. I don't owe her or any of you a damn thing."

The older woman snapped, "What do you mean?"

Elizabeth's reply was sharp and final. "I don't owe anyone anything. If Brenda wants to be the Clark family's young lady, she can have it. I don't care. From now on, we're strangers, just like before."

The recording wasn't done yet. Brenda's fake sweet words came next, followed by the Clark family members taking turns bashing Elizabeth, and her firing back.

Then, the Clark family tried to use resources and other stuff to threaten Elizabeth.

And then, the bombshell dropped. Turned out, Elizabeth's disappearance back then was actually Kevin's doing.

The recording ended with Elizabeth's voice ringing with finality. "From today on, I'm done. You never announced my identity to the public, so I don't have to cut ties publicly. Never see you again!"

Everyone who listened felt a mix of pity and admiration for Elizabeth. The recording laid bare the Clark family's toxic mess, their treatment of Elizabeth, and Brenda's role in it all.

Before, some folks said Elizabeth was too harsh on her brothers and that cutting ties with the Clark family seemed like some kind of scheme.

But now, after hearing the recording, those people shut up real quick.

Elizabeth's fans, many of whom couldn't help but tear up, felt heartbroken about her experiences after being recognized by the Clark family.
