Chapter 247 Let's Wait and See

Nicholas was floored by Matthew's attitude. "Wait, did you guys get something twisted? How could Darlene hurt you?" he asked, totally baffled.

Matthew eyed Nicholas, who genuinely seemed clueless.

Their companies were in a cutthroat battle now, and The Spellscroll Group had swallowed up a bunch of jewelry firms over the years.

Everyone kept saying Nicholas was this young hotshot. Truth was, Darlene was the puppet master; Nicholas was just a figurehead. No wonder he was in the dark.

Matthew scoffed, "Rex almost kicked the bucket, and you think I got it wrong? Ask Darlene if she pushed me to buy that janky gemstone ring. She swore it was top-notch and that I should rock it more. Rex liked it, so I gave it to him, but who knew it would nearly kill him?"

Matthew's anger was palpable. "This was a direct hit on Rex's life. Your Spellscroll Group is gunning for the top spot, but if you wanna compete, do it fair and square. These dirty tricks are low. My family's done with yours. From now on, we're through. Don't ever reach out again."

Nicholas was in shock. Could this be real? He turned to the frazzled Darlene and asked, "Darlene, what's the deal?"

Dodging Hannah's slaps, Darlene quickly defended herself, "I had no clue the ring was faulty. A customer sold it to our auction house, saying it was top-tier. When Hannah brought Matthew over, I thought she was being nice, so I recommended the ring. If they hadn't brought this up now, I'd still be in the dark. I meant well, but I messed up. I never saw this coming."

Hannah sneered, "You think we buy that? With all your scheming, how could you not know? If it was that great, you'd have kept it."

She kept smacking Darlene, who yelped in pain. Airport security finally intervened, pulling Hannah off. "You witch, just wait," she spat.

Back from the gemstone market, Hannah would make sure everyone in the elite circles knew how Darlene had wronged Matthew and Rex. Their family's decision to cut ties with the Spellscrolls marked the beginning of a feud.

Darlene's face was a mess, red and swollen with a few bloody scratches. Her perfect hair was be a wreck. She looked pitiful, but sympathy was scarce.

The high-ups and appraisers from Spellscroll Group who tagged along were all in shock. They never thought Darlene would pull something like this. If she hadn't, Hannah wouldn't have lost her cool and gone off on her in public. The two used to be tight.

When Spellscroll Group was on the rise, the Ingram family had actually lent a hand.

If Darlene did do it, it was for the company, and they could only say she was cutthroat. But from their angle, they couldn't really blame her.

Darlene knew Matthew and Hannah were making a scene on purpose today. With things like this, there was no turning back.

Matthew and Hannah would always be on high alert around her, maybe even plotting some payback.

So, no point in keeping up the friendly act anymore.

Darlene coolly fixed her hair and clothes. She looked at Hannah and said, "Hannah, believe it or not, I didn't do it. I say I got duped too, but you probably won't buy it. So, no point in explaining further since you won't listen."

She sneered, "I'm innocent. I didn't do it, and I'll remember you beating me today."

Hannah scoffed, "Then remember it. You think we're scared of your dirty tricks?"

Darlene shot back, "Fine, let's cut ties. The Ingram Group and Spellscroll Group will duke it out in the gemstone market. I was gonna help you find some top-tier gems for old times' sake, but now, forget it."

Darlene didn't really plan to help the Ingram Group; she just said it to stir the pot. Matthew had brought some high-ups and appraisers from the Ingram Group.

If they saw her snagging all the top-quality gems while they got zilch, they might start doubting Matthew and Hannah.

After all, if things hadn't blown up, the Ingram Group could've scored some primo gems, but now they missed out.

Matthew saw right through Darlene's game. He shot back, "You'd screw over me who's always had your back, and now you wanna help us find top-tier gems? Do you think we're idiots? If you were so loyal, how come a few months ago, when you found a bunch of top-quality gems, you didn't sell any to us? Instead, you hired a carver to use all those gems to outshine us at the jewelry exhibition."

Hannah didn't know about this and got even angrier. Darlene used to follow her around, always trying to butter her up. She'd send birthday wishes and gifts, so Hannah thought they were tight.

Her family had backed the Spellscroll Group and Darlene a lot.

Who knew Darlene was a snake in the grass? She was not only scheming but also ruthless. Now that Darlene couldn't keep up the act, she showed her true colors.

Hannah looked at Darlene with a smirk. She mocked, "Yeah, anyone can talk sweet. Look at you, so sure of yourself. We haven't even hit the gemstone market yet, and you think you'll score big? What if you don't? Won't you look stupid?"

Darlene fixed her hair and shot a cold glance at Hannah. "Then let's wait and see. Just hope you don't regret it." She'd make sure they saw her snag all the top-quality gems, making them green with envy but powerless to do anything. Otherwise, she couldn't stomach the humiliation from today's beating.

Hannah raised an eyebrow and said, "Fine, we'll wait. I admit I was dumb for falling for your act. But not anymore."

Hannah was straightforward, loving what she loved and hating what she hated. Darlene had crossed the line big time. It seemed Darlene wouldn't let them off the hook, and Hannah felt the same. She wouldn't let Darlene off either.
