Chapter 210 Is This How You Repay Me?

Betty swung the mop at Enrique without holding back. Enrique dodged frantically to avoid her blows.

Noticing the mop hit Brenda, he immediately took a protective stance, shielding Brenda with his body.

Enrique hurriedly explained, "Mom, don't get me wrong. The hospital chairs are too hard, so I came up to squeeze in with Brenda to sleep. We're fully dressed, aren't we? Don't get wrong!"

Brenda hid behind Enrique. Afraid that Betty would turn her wrath on her, she didn't dare to speak. She hadn't expected Betty to go crazy and bring her other two brothers to the hospital room in the middle of the night. If she had known, she wouldn't have continued lying with Enrique.

Her reaction didn't escape the notice of Arnold and Kevin. Their hearts sank even further. Enrique was getting beaten so badly, with several scratches on his face from the mop.

Meanwhile, Brenda, instead of coming to Enrique's defense or trying to explain, cowered behind him. Her silence spoke volumes.

They thought, 'Is she just too terrified of Betty's wrath, trying to shield herself from a beating?'

They knew Brenda very well, and they were sure that Enrique had gone to bed because she had invited him.

But seeing them lying together like that was too intimate to accept.

Betty, still furious, continued to beat him. "I have eyes, don't I? Do you think I can't see what's going on?" she yelled.

Enrique's face and body stung with pain. To prevent Betty from hitting Brenda, he jumped off the bed and ran to the door. He yelled, "Mom, calm down."

He dodged while pleading, "We really didn't do anything!" He and Brenda were indeed just siblings, but in Betty's eyes, it seemed ambiguous. Enrique felt wronged!

Betty wouldn't listen and scolded angrily. "If you weren't sleeping in the same bed, would people think that way? What kind of siblings hug each other and sleep in the same bed? You are simply shameless!"

She was absolutely livid.

Online posts were circulating, showing Brenda in close contact with Richard and Arnold.

Luckily, they were in a foreign country, in a hospital room, so if it had been in their home country and the situation had been captured by reporters and posted online, their reputation as the Clark family would have been seriously tarnished.

Betty, through a mix of anger and exhaustion, dropped the mop she was holding.

Turning to face Brenda, she asked, "Brenda, don't you have anything to say?"

Brenda, clutching the covers, looked up at Betty with red-rimmed eyes, trying to appear pitiful, "Mom, you've really misunderstood. Enrique came to stay with me, but there wasn't a place to lie down. So he climbed in bed and squeezed in next to me, thinking we could just about sleep like that through the night. We're innocent; there's nothing between us."

As soon as Betty heard this, her anger flared up again.

"Innocent people don't act like you two did," she said, "cuddled up together like a couple, sleeping more intimately than married couples."

She and Paul certainly never did such things.

Betty, unable to restrain her anger, stepped forward and struck Brenda across the face twice.

"Brenda, I've raised you for over a decade, treating you like my own daughter and doting on you. This is how you repay me; seducing my sons and developing unhealthy feelings for them beyond those of siblings."

"Spreading rumors and driving Elizabeth away, severing our ties."

"Do we have some sort of grudge?"

"I worked so hard to raise you, and this is how you treat me."

Brenda cried out in pain as the slaps landed, "Ah!"

She harbored resentment towards Betty but continued to feign remorse, "Mom, we didn't do anything; you've misunderstood."

Betty, consumed with anger, wouldn't listen and was determined to make Brenda pay.

She grabbed Brenda by the ear, yanking hard, and slapped her twice more.

"Brenda, you're shameless. What sister would do such a thing to her brother? I saw how you two were just now and I nearly went blind. All these years, I've been blinded by the belief that you were a kind and innocent girl. A good girl wouldn't lie down with Enrique like that, so shamelessly."

Seeing his mother hit Brenda, Enrique rushed forward to pull her back.

"Mom, please calm down. This isn't Brenda's fault; it was me who insisted on squeezing in beside her," Enrique said, trying to defuse the situation. I was the one who took the initiative to hold her while she was asleep. Please don't be mad, we're not what you're thinking."

Betty was livid. At this point, Enrique was still defending Brenda, which only fueled her anger further.

As Enrique pulled her away from Brenda, Betty was forced to let go, but she quickly turned and slapped him several times. "You're such a jerk. So you're saying you had improper thoughts about Brenda? How could someone like you, so shameless, be part of the Clark family?"

Arnold and Kevin had never seen Betty so enraged before, and it scared them. Watching Enrique get slapped, they felt a pang of discomfort.

Enrique's face stung from the blows. "Mom, can you please calm down?"

He was getting frustrated himself. "I've told you so many times, why won't you believe me?"

"I'll say it again: Brenda and I have a purely innocent relationship. It's not what you think.

"If you still don't believe me, there's nothing more we can do."

This was the first time in his life Enrique had been hit like this. If it had been anyone else, he would have retaliated by now.

But what could he do when it was Betty?

He felt both frustrated and wronged, especially since there was nothing improper between them.

Betty, overwhelmed with rage, found herself at a loss for words.

"You two shameless bastards.

"I'm going to tell your father about today's incident.

"I can't deal with you anymore; let him handle it."

With that, Betty stormed out of the hospital room in a fit of rage.

Arnold and Kevin exchanged helpless glances at Enrique. "Enrique, what you did today was really wrong. You've managed to really upset Mom."

They hurried after Betty, leaving Enrique and Brenda alone, unsure of what to do next.

Betty, fuming, descended the stairs. A chilly breeze helped her regain a bit of composure.

Without caring about the time, she sent the recorded video to Paul.

She was genuinely at a loss about how to handle Enrique and Brenda now. She had seen Brenda's blatant attempt to seduce Enrique with her own eyes.

All the sympathy she once had was gone. She just wanted Brenda out of her life as soon as possible.

She couldn't let it be true like the rumors outside said—that Brenda was some kind of mistress she had been keeping for her sons.

But Paul said he needed to investigate something and that Brenda couldn't be sent away yet.

So she was left with no clear path forward.

Aside from her fury, Betty felt deeply hurt and heartbroken. Since Brenda was brought into the family, Betty had genuinely nurtured and cared for her.

Yet Brenda had repaid her like this.

If Brenda had been mistreated or if the family had treated her poorly, she might have understood Brenda's actions.

But after all the love and care she had given Brenda for over a decade, to end up with this kind of betrayal was unbearable.

She thought, 'Is this what raising a daughter is supposed to be like, only to end up with an enemy?'

'Does it always have to end this way if they aren't biological?'

'And Enrique isn't any better. Not only is he shameless, but he is also protecting Brenda despite everything.'

'What's the difference between him and a married man who defends his mistresses?'

The more Betty thought about it, the more her heart ached. She was even beginning to struggle for breath, clutching her chest and leaning against the wall.

Suddenly, her face went pale, and she collapsed.
