Chapter 182 But I Won't Be Fooled Again
Elizabeth's words left those who had just apologized fuming with anger.
They thought she was too arrogant but they couldn't do anything about it.
Someone actually called the special department to report Elizabeth.
In this world, divination was prevalent, and the special department was also publicly known.
They even published their phone number so that if anyone encounters something strange or supernatural, they can call to report it.
The people in the special department had already noticed Elizabeth.
They had investigated her before, so they knew that her major was indeed divination and spells.
She had obtained her diviner certification before graduating from college and was a legitimate divination master.
She had never done anything harmful using divination.
On the contrary, she attracted a group of divination masters who became her fans.
Her divination abilities were very strong; today, when Ryan and Percy were chasing that evil wizard, with the help of her divination they were able to locate him.
Now that several people had reported Elizabeth, they definitely had to investigate the complaints.
They requested a copy of the previous live stream from the production team.
They carefully examined the spell scroll Elizabeth had drawn.
It was indeed a simple backlash spell scroll, not intended to cause harm to anyone.
Those people cursed Elizabeth in the live chat, targeted Wayne and Rebecca as well.
Her use of the backlash spell scroll to retaliate was a normal act of self-defense and was not illegal.
If someone hadn't cursed or done bad things, the backlash spell scroll would have no effect on them.
So those who were affected by the backlash brought it upon themselves.
Because Elizabeth was a public figure, and this incident was live-streamed to a wide audience, the special department issued an official investigation report.
In the end, they cautioned those who enjoyed cursing others online to be careful not to repeat such behavior.
They also noted that even without Elizabeth's backlash, their lives and work would likely be negatively impacted by such behavior.
Once the report was out, Elizabeth's fans rushed to the live stream to inform everyone.
It made Brenda's fans and those who liked to curse online feel frustrated and angry.
The special department remained indifferent to their reactions, leaving them powerless to respond.
If the backlash continued, they would eventually have a breakdown!
But even if they had a breakdown, no one sympathized or helped them.
So some couldn't hold back their anger and diverted their attention to curse Brenda instead.
They said she was bad too , causing trouble when there was none.
Not only did she fail to harm Elizabeth, but she also received a backlash herself and harmed them in the process of her stirring up trouble. She was nothing less than a walking disaster for them.
After cursing, they unfollowed Brenda on Facebook.
Seeing this, many of Brenda's other fans also unfollowed her.
They didn't realize it before that Brenda was indeed a bad woman. At least, they have come to their sense now.
She caused Kevin and Arnold, the two most popular stars, to be cursed for two episodes of the variety show, making many fans dislike them.
Brenda is also the cause why Eugene to break up with Elizabeth.
Being close to Brenda really brought them bad luck, so they decided to stay away from her.
Otherwise, who knew what kind of bad luck they would encounter one day.
As a result, another batch of fans unfollowed Brenda, and many even started to dislike her.
When Elizabeth and the others met at the restaurant, Arnold, who had been silently sitting in the hospital garden, finally stood up and made his way to Brenda's ward.
There was no live stream in the ward at this time; Kevin and Eugene had returned to the restaurant to continue earning money.
Arnold had told the cameraman not to follow him in the afternoon; he needed to be alone to calm down.
The director agreed.
Arnold pushed the door open and saw Brenda sitting on the hospital bed, eating a sandwich with her uninjured hand.
He spoke with a mocking tone, "You are quite mentality strong, still able to eat at a time like this."
He had no mood or appetite at all.
Brenda paused from eating, looked up at Arnold.
She first froze, then, out of habit, her eyes began to well up with tears.
She looked at him with a face full of grievance and pity. Brenda apologized, "Arnold, I'm sorry."
She explained, "I found out my injury wasn't of natural causes, so I suspected that someone was out to harm me. When you mentioned Elizabeth, I thought it was her."
Arnold frowned angrily. He questioned her, "Even now, you're still lying to me. Then tell me, did you curse her or not?"
Brenda shook her head in denial, claiming, "No, I really didn't curse her."
Tears streamed from her eyes, looking like she was hurt by his words. "Arnold, do you not believe me either?" she asked.
Arnold looked at her expressionlessly. He dared her, "Then swear."
He emphasized, "Swear in front of me that you didn't curse Elizabeth, or else be punished by God."
Brenda's body stiffened, looking at him in disbelief. She remarked, "You're forcing me too? How can such an oath be taken lightly? If I swear, what if Elizabeth uses this oath against me?"
She helplessly added, "Anyway, I didn't curse her. If you don't believe me, I can't help it."
Arnold walked over and suddenly grabbed Brenda's chin, and said impatiently, "Brenda, do you really take me for a fool to be played with?"
If she didn't do anything bad, how could she not dare to swear?
Elizabeth was a diviner, and she dared to swear, showing she has a clear conscience.
Tears streamed down Brenda's face as she shook her head as she remained adamant, "I didn't."
She felt a bit panicked inside. She clearly felt Arnold's attitude and the way he looked at her had changed.
Just like Richard before, he started to not care about her.
How could this be?
If they didn't care about her, how could she stay in the Clark family as a pampered lady?
How could she continue to do those things?
Brenda showed her most vulnerable and pitiful look. Then she pleaded, "Arnold, I really didn't play with you. I was just too upset. I won't do it again. Please don't be mad at me, okay?"
If it were before, Arnold would have felt sorry and softened seeing her like this.
Now he felt she was hypocritical, still putting up a facade with him.
He let go of Brenda's chin, and replied, "No."
He looked at her with disappointment and pain. Arnold lashed out, "For you, we forced Elizabeth to cut ties with our family. From the beginning until the end, I always stood by your side. And this is how you repay me?"
He mocked, "When it's time to abandon me, you don't hesitate. Brenda, do you even have a heart?"
Being deceived and used by Brenda, whom he had loved since childhood, he felt too hurt and burdened.
Especially since he had once again questioned and hurt Elizabeth for Brenda.
He felt more regretful and somewhat guilty for his rash behavior.
Brenda put down the sandwich and grabbed his arm. She claimed while pretending to look sincere, "Arnold, I didn't abandon you. In my heart, you are the most important person to me."
Arnold suddenly laughed. Then he stated coldly, "Even now, you still want to lie to me. You really are suited for the entertainment industry; your acting is great. But I won't be fooled again."
He didn't want to see Brenda anymore, nor did he want to hear her lies.
So he turned and left.
Brenda, anxious, cried and shouted behind him, "Arnold, don't go! I beg you, don't leave me, Arnold!"
But this time, Arnold's steps didn't stop; instead, they quickened.
He opened the door and left without looking back.
