Chapter 386 But Isn't This Tricking Them?

The guy who was protecting Brenda didn't make it. So, Ethan got someone else to take her back to Clifftonshireburg.

Even though Brenda was with the Divination Association, she knew what was going down in Clifftonshireburg and had already planned how to get back into the Clark Family's good graces.

Before heading back, she had the new guy check on Paul and his sons. Turned out, Paul took Loren on a business trip, and Betty was at home with the other four sons. With that info, Brenda made herself look all disheveled and pitiful before going home.

She showed up just in time for lunch. Lately, Betty's been all over the place because of the whole poisonous insects thing. With Paul and Loren away, she insisted her other four sons have lunch with her every day. Anyone who tried to skip out got a serious scolding.

The Clark brothers had been avoiding Betty like the plague, trying to stay as far away as possible. But since Paul told them to just go along with it to avoid drama, they reluctantly stayed home for lunch.

Just as they started eating, the butler brought Brenda in. Betty and the brothers were a bit shocked. Brenda, on the other hand, was taken aback by Betty's appearance. Her face was covered in red spots, looking even scarier than before.

But Brenda was ready for this. She pushed through her fear and disgust, quickly walked over, and half-knelt in front of Betty. She hugged her and cried, "Mom, I missed you so much!"

Betty was stunned for a moment but then got emotional. Despite her looks, Brenda hugged her without any hesitation, unlike her sons who had to be forced to have a meal with her.

So, instead of pushing Brenda away, Betty patted her on the shoulder and asked, "Are you okay at the Divination Association?"

Brenda sighed in relief, feeling a bit proud as she buried her face in Betty's embrace. Her plan to target Betty directly was spot on. This was when Betty needed comfort the most, making her easy to win over.

Brenda said, "I was controlled by Alfonso. When the curse was lifted at the Divination Association, I went through a lot. They even punished me by locking me in the water dungeon. But it was worth it. Now he can't control me anymore. I can come back and be with you all."

She rubbed her head against Betty and said affectionately, "Mom, when I was locked up, I thought about you all the time. Especially remembering when you held me as a child..."

She started reminiscing about the good times when Betty treated her well. In Betty's most fragile state, Brenda's tactics really hit home. After all, Brenda was a child she had doted on for years, always so dependent and considerate of her.

Betty's initial thought of having the butler send Brenda away changed. "Who would've thought Alfonso was so bad, controlling you to harm us." She then patted Brenda's head and said, "It's good that you're back now."

Brenda looked up, tears of gratitude in her eyes. "Mom, you're so kind. I'll take good care of you and be the best daughter ever."

She knew exactly what Betty wanted to hear. After all, Elizabeth, her real daughter, was so cold and heartless.

Sure enough, Betty's eyes softened a lot. "Alright, just stay with me from now on."

Betty felt super lonely and needed someone considerate by her side. But whether it was her parents, brothers, Paul, her sons, or Elizabeth, none of them understood or cared for her.

She looked at Brenda again and said, "If you need anything, just have the butler get it for you."

Brenda hugged Betty's arm and rubbed it. "Mom, you're the best."

The four Clark brothers were speechless watching this. Was Betty really that gullible? Brenda just hugged her and said some sweet words, and Betty melted and let her stay. They knew keeping Brenda around was nothing but trouble.

Sharing the same thought, the brothers knew Brenda had to go. They exchanged looks and silently communicated through glances. Arnold, Enrique, and Kevin all stared at Richard, blinking and nudging their heads towards Betty and Brenda, signaling Richard to do something.

Richard rolled his eyes and whispered, "Why don't you guys go?"

The other three said in unison, "Loren's not here, so it's your turn."

Richard remained silent. His brothers never included him when there was something good to share, but they were quick to push him forward when things went wrong. Despite his frustration, he was also afraid of Brenda.

So he reluctantly looked at Betty and asked, "Mom, don't you remember what Dad said before?"

Betty's body stiffened at these words. She knew exactly what he meant. Paul wanted Brenda gone.

She glared at Richard and said, "How can you be so heartless? She's your sister too. Is it so wrong for her to stay at home and keep me company?"

Brenda immediately knew that Paul wanted to drive her away and that these brothers who used to dote on her had all turned against her. Richard was the worst; he had been cold to her recently.

She turned her tearful eyes to the four of them. "Richard, Arnold, Enrique, Kevin, I was controlled before; that's why I acted that way. Please don't blame me, okay? I promise I won't do it again."

Richard sneered, "Only a fool would believe that." He had seen through Brenda and wouldn't believe she was controlled.

Betty's face darkened; she felt insulted.

Enrique couldn't help but say, "Exactly, you absorbed my Generational Blessings before. You benefited, not Alfonso." After enduring so much torment and pain, he wouldn't be deceived again.
