Chapter 49 It Was Definitely Intentional

Elizabeth gave Kevin a knowing look. "You sure you wanna hear this?"

Kevin nodded. "Yeah, I do."

He was curious about what excuse Elizabeth would come up with this time. Why was she so against helping her own brother? Her constant refusals were starting to get on his nerves.

Brenda, sensing trouble, tugged on Kevin's sleeve and shook her head, silently pleading with him to drop it.

Elizabeth noticed Brenda's subtle gesture. Knowing Kevin's soft spot for Brenda, she decided to speak up before he could change his mind. "Alright, if you really wanna know, here it is: First, I don't deal with family; second, I don't deal with politics; third, I don't deal with myself."

Brenda's face fell. Elizabeth was definitely doing this on purpose. Kevin didn't fit the second and third criteria, so it had to be the first. Brenda regretted not stopping him sooner and was a bit annoyed with him for pushing the issue. Now, everyone would be speculating about their relationship.

Trying to distract herself, Brenda reached for a peach and started peeling it with a fruit knife. As expected, everyone except Raymond, Eugene, and Nancy, who already knew, looked shocked. Lisa couldn't help but blurt out, "You two are related?"

Just then, Brenda yelped, "Ah!"

Everyone turned to see Brenda had cut her finger while peeling the peach. Blood stained the fruit red. She looked up at Kevin with teary eyes. "Kevin, my hand hurts."

Kevin quickly grabbed her hand to check the cut.

Kevin instinctively put Brenda's bleeding finger in his mouth to stop the bleeding.

Eugene got up and went to the kitchen, grabbing some band-aids from the cabinet. He handed one to Kevin. "Here, use this."

Kevin took Brenda's finger out of his mouth and carefully applied the band-aid.

Brenda's eyes welled up a bit. "Thanks, Kevin."

She then turned to Eugene. "Thank you, Eugene."

Eugene smiled. "No problem."

Brenda sighed dramatically. "Oh, I was so careless. Now my finger hurts too much to wash or cut vegetables later."

She was clearly trying to change the subject.

Eugene caught on. "It's fine. Your hand's injured, so you shouldn't cook. Let's just go out to eat tonight. We'll cover the bill."

He knew Brenda was trying to dodge Lisa's question about her relationship with Kevin, so he played along.

Brenda felt relieved and a bit triumphant. Eugene's support would definitely irk Elizabeth. She smiled sweetly at Eugene and nodded. "Great idea. It'll be nice to try something different."

This way, she wouldn't have to cook, and the awkward topic could be avoided for now. She really didn't want people in the entertainment industry or the audience to know she was just Kevin's adopted sister. It made her feel inferior to Elizabeth.

Elizabeth had figured out Brenda's plan the moment she picked up the fruit knife. She decided not to bring up the previous topic again and shifted the conversation.

Elizabeth turned to Raymond and the others. "You guys should start rehearsing with the kids. The performance is tomorrow."

Elizabeth knew that leaving things half-said would keep everyone curious. The more she distanced herself from Kevin, the more people would wonder. When the truth eventually came out, they'd understand her intentions. She was trying to help Brenda, hoping she wouldn't regret it later.

Of course, this also made it easier for Richard to exploit the situation. In her past life, Elizabeth would have been confused and hurt by Eugene's protectiveness towards Brenda. She would have wanted to know why he was so defensive. But now, she didn't care to investigate.

Raymond noticed both Brenda and Elizabeth were deliberately changing the subject. He smiled and said, "Alright, let's get some advice."

Being mysterious was more intriguing, after all.

Elizabeth nodded and smiled. "Let's go."

The four of them continued rehearsing with the kids.

Ronald was curious but held back from asking. It was clear neither Elizabeth nor Brenda wanted to continue the previous topic.

Lisa, on the other hand, was dying to know more. She didn't buy that Brenda had accidentally cut her hand. The timing was too convenient. Clearly, Brenda was afraid her question would lead to a significant revelation about Elizabeth and Kevin. The more they avoided it, the more it seemed like their relationship was complicated.

Were they actually related? Could they be close relatives? Lisa wanted to steer the conversation back to get Kevin to spill something. But just as she was about to speak, she caught Eugene giving her a warning look, his back to the camera.

Lisa was startled. She hadn't expected Eugene to be so protective of Brenda. In the cutthroat entertainment industry, she couldn't afford to offend Eugene. He wasn't just a superstar; he was rumored to have a powerful background. So, she swallowed her words.

[Why didn't they continue?]

[It's so frustrating to leave it hanging!]

[Answer Lisa's question!]

[Did Brenda do it on purpose?]

[She totally did that to interrupt Lisa's question.]

[It was definitely on purpose; I saw it with my own eyes. As soon as Elizabeth mentioned those three things, Brenda started peeling the peach.]

[From Elizabeth's three conditions, it's clear Kevin only fits the first one.]

[So does that mean Elizabeth and Kevin are related?]

[If that's the case, then Elizabeth and Brenda must be related too, right?]

[But from the beginning of the show until now, Elizabeth has been unfriendly to both of them, even confrontational.]

[What is the relationship between these three? I really want to know.]

[It's so frustrating to be left hanging here; it's the first time I've disliked Brenda so much.]

[I think not only are they related, but there must be something big going on, or Brenda wouldn't have conveniently cut her hand.]

[Can't the reporters do a better job? It's been days, and they still haven't dug up the relationship between these three.]

[We want the scoop, reporters, go!]

The entertainment company had been trying to dig up the relationship between Elizabeth and Brenda for the past few days. But they were looking in the direction of a romantic or ambiguous relationship. So they only found out that Elizabeth often accompanied Kevin to dance practice, and the two had gone out to eat several times in private. But these things had already been exposed by them or others before.

Now, watching the live stream, they suddenly realized. It turned out these two were not lovers or had an ambiguous relationship but were actually related by blood?

The reporters quickly sprang into action. They wanted to dig up the big news as soon as possible and aim for a headline scoop.
