Chapter 290 Bullying Shouldn't Be Done This Way
Brenda never thought Zachary would spill the beans like that. She begged him, but he still blurted it out in front of everyone.
She was fuming. Why did everyone who knew Elizabeth seem to have it out for her?
It had to be Elizabeth bad-mouthing her to Zachary behind her back. They went to the same school, after all. No way this was the first time Elizabeth and Zachary crossed paths.
Why would Zachary back Elizabeth up against her on their first meeting? Brenda never considered that Zachary was just laying out the facts.
She was freaking out, not sure what to do, when she heard Enrique ask. It meant he still had her back, which was a relief.
So she looked at him with big, innocent eyes and said, "Enrique, I had no idea this would happen. My friend never told me any of this. Look, I've always worn this bracelet. When I was hurting before, it helped me out. I thought it was great, so I gave it to you. If it wasn't good, why would I wear it every day?"
Enrique thought it made sense. He had seen Brenda wearing that bracelet all the time. If she knew about the backlash, why would she wear it for so long? He seemed to have found an excuse for Brenda.
He asked angrily, "Who told you this? After the show, we'll go find her and sort this out. You must have been tricked by that person."
As soon as he said this, everyone looked at him like he was an idiot. Kevin was speechless; Enrique must have been played by Brenda.
He was even defending her. Was he really that blind to the fact that Brenda had deceived him?
Raymond was also speechless, uttering, "Whether she was tricked or not is up in the air. But you're dead set on thinking she got played. Is it really smart to delude yourself like that?"
Enrique was already looking for reasons to comfort himself. Hearing Raymond's words, he glared at him, saying, "That's my business; what's it to you?"
Raymond raised his hand in a "go ahead" gesture, saying, "It's none of my business. If you want to be a fool, be my guest."
Enrique couldn't stand hearing the truth from others, so he deserved to keep being unlucky.
Elizabeth took a sip of her coffee and said, "You can never wake up someone who's pretending to be asleep."
Enrique was just like that. He'd rather lie to himself than believe that the Brenda he had adored for over ten years had deceived and hurt him. Of course, it also meant he hadn't suffered enough.
Brenda was super frustrated and looked at Elizabeth, saying, "You don't need to stir things up between Enrique and me. I know you've always been unhappy that the brothers favor me more. But Enrique and I have been together for over ten years; he knows I wouldn't harm him. I was also tricked by a friend; otherwise, I would never have joked about borrowing luck from him, nor watched him suffer misfortune."
While she was defending herself, she also took the chance to clarify.
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow, stating, "Borrowing Generational Blessings isn't as simple as jokingly saying, 'Lend me your luck,' and the other person agreeing. Otherwise, family and friends could all pretend to joke about borrowing luck, and it would be chaos. Do you think your explanation makes sense? Among us here, there's only one fool."
Enrique was silent. Elizabeth might as well have called him out by name. He couldn't help but ask, "So borrowing luck requires other conditions?"
Back then, Enrique really thought Brenda was just messing around. He figured, even if it was true, lending some luck to his beloved Brenda was no biggie. Little did he know, lending luck would make him so damn unlucky.
Now, if he had to choose, he definitely wouldn't agree again. But from what Elizabeth said, borrowing luck wasn't that simple.
Elizabeth rolled her eyes and shot back, "What do you think? Why don't you try borrowing luck from someone else and see if it works?"
Enrique was starting to buy it, but it was still a tough pill to swallow. He looked at Kevin. "Kevin, lend me some of your luck?"
Kevin was silent; did he really look like a fool? Kevin asked, "Enrique, do I look like a fool to you?"
This jerk had previously snatched his Spellscroll, causing him to be unlucky for days and wasting $2.5 million.
Enrique said, "Didn't Elizabeth say it wouldn't work without specific conditions? I just want to try."
He was desperate to know if he had been played by Brenda.
Seeing him like this, Kevin guessed his thoughts. He had also been reluctant to think badly of Brenda before. He looked at Elizabeth, inquiring, "Can we try?"
He really didn't dare to do such a thing lightly. What if his Generational Blessings were borrowed by Enrique? So he had to ask Elizabeth. Elizabeth wasn't like Brenda; if it was possible, she would say so, and if not, she wouldn't lie.
Elizabeth nodded at him, saying, "There are no conditions for borrowing Generational Blessings between you two, so go ahead and try."
She looked at Enrique and said, "Take off the bracelet and walk a few steps. After that, try borrowing luck from Kevin."
Enrique asked, "Why do I have to take off the bracelet and walk a few steps before borrowing luck?"
Elizabeth glared at him, retorting, "Why are you asking so many questions? How else are you going to test it?"
Enrique, feeling wronged by Elizabeth's glare, said, "Fine, I'll do it."
Brenda panicked. She couldn't let Enrique test it, or she would be exposed. But how could she stop him?
Just as Enrique was about to take off the bracelet, Brenda suddenly had an idea. She was already pale with anxiety, and she raised her hand to her forehead, preparing to stand up and "faint" accidentally.
But just as she raised her hand, she heard Raymond say, "Brenda, are you trying to fake a faint to stop Enrique?"
He had been watching Brenda closely. He couldn't let Brenda ruin Elizabeth's plan.
Brenda was silent. For the first time, she felt an urge to curse at Raymond. She felt like crying; why was Raymond always keeping an eye on her?
As a result, her plan to fake a faint failed. She couldn't help but glare at Raymond. "I wasn't." Then she reddened her eyes and shouted in frustration, "Why are you always helping Elizabeth bully me? What did I do to you?"
Raymond looked innocent, saying, "I was just kidding; why are you so agitated?"
Elizabeth said, "Are you feeling guilty again?" She had also noticed that Brenda wanted to fake a faint to stop them. Raymond's acuity is remarkable; for him to notice this is quite commendable.
Brenda bit her lip, saying, "You guys are ganging up to isolate and bully me. I can't argue with you."
Elizabeth spoke with a smile, "If you can't argue, just wait and watch the results."
The implication was clear: whether they were ganging up to bully her or she had harmed Enrique would be proven by facts, not words.
Enrique was eager to try. So he looked at Brenda and said, "Brenda, if you haven't done anything, there's nothing to fear. Prove it to them; don't be afraid."
Brenda was silent, thinking, 'Please, just shut up.'
