Chapter 393 Fight Back
So, looking at Zephyr's situation, it was clear Brenda had totally played Betty. Even if Betty found out the truth later, knowing her, she'd still pass the curse of those nasty bugs onto someone else if she couldn't handle it herself. Sometimes, it felt like Betty and Brenda were more like real mother and daughter.
Elizabeth's words hit the Anderson family like a bomb. Usually calm, Ruth lost it—tears streaming down her face as she yelled, "How could Betty do this to Zephyr? She's just a selfish, ungrateful witch. No surprise, with a guardian like Betty. They're just the same. I don't expect her to repay us, but she shouldn't harm Zephyr!"
Zephyr hadn't done anything major, but he was still Ruth's kid. He was so young, and if those poisonous bugs couldn't be removed, he'd be lucky to make it through the year. It was basically a death sentence.
Leon's face darkened. "Brenda must've tricked her—Betty wouldn't have known transferring it to Zephyr would be this bad."
Ruth, her voice sharp, shot back, "Even if she knew! With Betty's nature, she'd still risk it after just a second's hesitation."
Leon fell silent, defeated by his wife's harsh truth. He sighed heavily. "So, what do we do now?" Betty's betrayal left him both furious and heartbroken.
Ruth shook her head, tears streaming down. "We have to tell Mom and Dad. The whole family needs to know. Zephyr's life is on the line, I can't stay quiet."
Leon nodded. "Alright, I'll call them and get them here." He left to make the call.
The elder Andersons were horrified when they heard Zephyr had been poisoned by some insect magic. The mention of Betty being involved left them speechless before they rushed to the hospital. They managed to bring along Leon's younger brother, his wife, and the youngest sister.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, seeing Leon's distressed face, Ruth crying heavily, and Soren's serious expression, even Elizabeth looked troubled, deep in thought. Zephyr, despite his own fear, tried to comfort them. "I've always had a bit of luck on my side. I'll be fine. Mom, Dad, Soren—don't worry. If I don't make it, then it's just fate." He didn't want his family to worry and be sad for him.
He turned to Elizabeth, trying to ease her burden. "Elizabeth, don't stress. Even if you can't fix this, it's okay. Betty hired so many so-called experts and none could help. I appreciate you even trying."
Ruth snapped, her voice sharp, "Don't say that! You're too young to talk about giving up."
Zephyr sighed, "Alright, I won't."
Elizabeth was quiet, thinking deeply. Finally, she said, "I'll make a call to a friend and see if he can help." If Zachary could help, she'd be totally confident. She didn't need him to remove the poisonous bugs from Zephyr, nor did she need him to fight the evil wizard. As long as he could protect Zephyr while she took action, just to prevent the evil wizard from using dirty tricks to harm Zephyr.
Leon immediately said, "Alright then, please go ahead."
Elizabeth nodded and stepped outside to make the call. Zachary was chilling, watching videos when his phone rang. He answered, "Elizabeth, what's up?"
Elizabeth explained Zephyr's situation and asked, "So Zachary, can you help me?"
Zachary was stunned and couldn't help but ask, "To deal with a high-level evil wizard's insects, you'd need to be a high-level diviner. Have you leveled up?"
Elizabeth smiled, "Yeah, I had an opportunity and broke through early."
Zachary was shocked. He sighed, "Amazing! You're the first young high-level diviner I've ever met." In the past, the most powerful diviners hit their peak in their thirties or later. Even he, despite being hailed as a prodigy, was only at an advanced intermediate level in his late twenties. Many divination masters were in their seventies, eighties, or even over a hundred years old before reaching a high level.
Elizabeth chuckled modestly. "I got lucky." Thanks to the stone Raymond gave her.
Zachary replied with a smile, "It's rare to hear you being so humble. Reaching high-level diviner has nothing to do with luck. You are undoubtedly a genius among geniuses."
Opportunity was just a door; she had the grit to walk through it. Zachary had previously noticed that Elizabeth had a very strong comprehension ability and, indeed, had the potential to break through. He had lived for many years and had become indifferent to many things. He naturally didn't feel jealous of Elizabeth but rather admired her.
Elizabeth laughed softly. "I'll take the compliment! So, about the help?"
Zachary said, "You know I can't leave Aevum City. But if you bring the person here, I can make an exception for you." Otherwise, due to various constraints and his nature, he wouldn't interfere in matters between diviners, let alone get involved in conflicts.
Elizabeth's lips curved into a smile. "With your word, I'm relieved. Thank you!" Once he committed, she knew he'd deliver. After a few more words, they ended the call.
Back in the ward, Elizabeth faced four anxious pairs of eyes. She flashed them a reassuring smile. "It's arranged. Mr. Murphy's agreed to help. With him, there's a very good chance we can save Zephyr."
These words made the four of them breathe a sigh of relief. Ruth held Elizabeth's hand. She said, "Elizabeth, thank you so much."
Leon echoed, "Elizabeth, thank you for your efforts. If you need anything in the future, just let us know, and we'll do our best." Elizabeth didn't owe them anything; helping them was a favor, not an obligation. So they had to remember and repay such a big favor.
Elizabeth didn't refuse and smiled. "If I need anything in the future, I'll let you know." Since Brenda and her group wanted to harm her, she would naturally fight back.
