Chapter 459 Let's Stop Acting
Elizabeth pondered Zachary's words for a moment. She suggested, "Since we're not sure, why don't we go to the Mystic Divination Academy later to investigate? Ethan doesn't have that kind of power. The person who wants to take your physique is either Xavier or Bradley. And I also suspect that Wayne was killed by one of them, or maybe both were involved."
Zachary nodded, also wanting to know who was plotting to use Aevum City to steal his physique. "Alright," he agreed. Then he asked, "Should we go to the ancient tomb now, or just forget about it? I don't really care, but I think you still care about the lives of those ordinary people near the tomb." Having lived for so many years, he had seen too much life and death, so he didn't really care.
Elizabeth chuckled, "Looks like you know me well. We should still go and take a look. Those people wouldn't just set up a plot for fun. There must be an ancient tomb, plus an uncontrollable evil aura spilling out. After all, if you're going to put on a show, you have to go all out." She couldn't let innocent people die because of this.
She added, "Besides, you can't gain anything without facing danger. Let's go see their performance. If we join forces, I think we can still make it through."
If they were alone, they might be in real danger. But together, their combined strength could challenge even the highest-level diviners. And she had a backup plan. At the very least, they could ensure their survival. There was another reason she had to go; today was a very special day. She had to face it to break the curse and gain true rebirth.
Zachary smiled, "Then let's go. I'll risk my life for you today." Maybe it was because of Elizabeth's personality that he admired and wanted to protect her.
The two drove to the location of the ancient tomb. As soon as they arrived, they noticed wisps of evil aura emanating from one direction.
Elizabeth reached out and poked the little Aether Serpent that was still asleep on her wrist. It woke up, opened its eyes lazily, and began to absorb the surrounding evil aura. If Elizabeth hadn't poked it to work, it wouldn't have even bothered with this small amount of evil aura.
Elizabeth and Zachary got out of the car and climbed the mountain. There was a car parked ahead, but it was empty. It was the one that had previously taken Zachary. Clearly, the other party had already gone in. The further they went, the denser the evil aura became.
Elizabeth and Zachary both took out their evil aura artifacts to absorb the surrounding evil aura. If this evil aura were to spread out, people nearby might get sick, have bad luck, or even die in severe cases.
After walking for half an hour, they saw a hole dug by a tomb raider, from which the evil aura was emanating. Elizabeth told Zachary to stand still while she checked the surroundings. She said, "There's no sign of any formations. Let's go down."
Zachary nodded, "Alright." He was increasingly realizing that Elizabeth was not simple, but he still didn't delve into it.
The further they went, the denser the evil aura became, but it was still bearable for the two of them. They also encountered some traps, which they easily dismantled together. After walking for another ten minutes, they reached the burial site of the tomb's owner.
Entering the tomb chamber, they saw several people lying on the ground, their fates unknown, looking like tomb raiders.
Xavier and three others were sitting cross-legged, each holding an artifact to suppress the evil aura constantly emanating from the coffin. The four of them didn't look well, as if they were severely corroded by the evil aura.
Seeing the two appear, Xavier's face lit up. "Mr. Murphy, Elizabeth, you're here."
Zachary nodded at him indifferently, "Yes, we're here."
Elizabeth walked over to the coffin to take a look. The little Aether Serpent on her wrist was vigorously absorbing the evil aura trying to invade her body.
Xavier watched Elizabeth wander around the coffin, occasionally staring at him from different positions. Frowning, he urged, "Elizabeth, hurry up and help. What are you looking at?"
Elizabeth leaned lazily against the coffin, seemingly unaffected by the evil aura. She smirked, "I'm looking at how realistic your props are."
Xavier was stunned. "What props? Have you been corroded by the evil aura and gone mad?"
Elizabeth looked at him and shrugged. "The fact that I can appear here unscathed means Ethan's plan didn't work. We all know each other too well, so why continue the act?"
She mocked, "Besides, if we're talking about acting, I'm a professional. You guys are still a bit lacking. The evil aura beads in this coffin seem to be quite old treasures. You guys really went all out to scheme against Zachary."
Having experienced a lot, she immediately noticed that the evil aura was unusual. It didn't seem like evil sorcery emanating from a tomb but rather a collection of different evil auras condensed and then released. So she quickly guessed what was inside. She was too lazy to act with these people, so she exposed them.
Xavier hadn't expected Elizabeth to see through it immediately. His gaze on her was filled with curiosity and surprise. It hadn't been that long since they last met, yet he couldn't see through Elizabeth at all.
Zachary walked over to Elizabeth's side and coldly said to Xavier, "I've already left Aevum City. Your orders can no longer bind me. So there's no need to act anymore. Just come at me directly." He had interacted with Xavier many times and never realized Xavier could be like this. Xavier had been secretly scheming against him for so many years.
Hearing both Elizabeth and Zachary say this, Xavier suddenly stood up and smiled, "Then let's stop acting." Since he couldn't deceive them, continuing the act would be funny.
He turned to Zachary, "Mr. Murphy, how long have you known Elizabeth to trust her so much?"
Zachary retorted, "If I don't trust her, should I trust you guys instead?"
Then he directly asked, "Between you and Bradley, who wants my physique?"
Xavier sneered, his eyes glowing with greed. "Of course, it's me. Bradley has been hiding in the Mystic Divination Academy all these years, not daring to interfere in anything. He doesn't have the guts to scheme against you. Mr. Murphy, you've lived for so many years. Isn't that enough? Why not let me, your junior, live a few more years?"
