Chapter 234 Let's Hurt Each Other
Elizabeth was still up, scrolling through her phone. The second Hubert sent the video, she hit play.
She couldn't believe what she was seeing. Brenda, acting all innocent and sweet around the Clark brothers, was now showing her true colors. If Richard had given the green light, Brenda would've totally gone for it.
Elizabeth had always felt it. Brenda treated the Clark brothers like her personal property. No wonder she was so possessive.
She shot back a voice message. "Just watched the vid. You must've been under some kind of crazy spell scroll. Regular folks can't pull that off. Did you catch any weird smell when you got back to your room?"
Richard thought back and replied with a voice message too. "Yeah, I don't use incense, but there was this faint smell when I walked in."
Elizabeth was on point with her guess.
She replied, "That's it. Special incense mixed with a bewitching spell scroll can mess with your head. The spell doesn't last long, but it's enough for her to get what she wants."
Richard had to ask, "Can she hit me with that spell again?"
Elizabeth answered, "Totally. If she's got more incense and spell scrolls, she can keep using them. But the spell has to touch you to work, so try to dodge it. But she loves to fake those falls into your arms, so watch out."
The three brothers went quiet. So all those falls were just an act. No wonder she did it so often, especially lately. Elizabeth had it all figured out.
Richard then asked what they had been wondering. "Were we under a spell when we spoiled her all those years?"
Elizabeth's voice came through, dripping with sarcasm. "What are you thinking? Don't blame your stupidity on magic. If she was that powerful, she wouldn't need incense and a spell scroll. Spoiling her for over a decade is all on you."
The Clark brothers were a riot. Trying to make excuses for their past indulgence of Brenda. Did they think it would make them feel better?
Rebecca's voice message was full of disdain. She added, "You guys are just dumb. Don't pin everything on Brenda."
Hubert jumped into the group chat.
Hubert: [It's clearly your stupidity.]
The three brothers felt the awkward silence.
Richard couldn't argue with Elizabeth and Rebecca, so he tagged Hubert.
Richard: [@Hubert What’s this got to do with you? Go to sleep and stop stirring the pot.]
Hubert: [I can't sleep. Just enjoying the drama. That scene was wild. Richard, you're pretty lucky! Why didn't you go for it with Brenda? That's not like you.]
Out of the three, only Hubert and Eugene hadn't hooked up with other women.
Richard didn't date or have a girlfriend, but he had a revolving door of bed partners.
And if Richard hadn't said those things to Brenda before, she wouldn't have tried to sleep with him today.
Richard went quiet. He didn't want to come off as a player. He still wanted to look good in front of Elizabeth and Rebecca.
Richard: [Cut the crap. If you want it, it's yours. I'm a decent guy.]
Hubert: [Richard, in Elizabeth and Rebecca's eyes, your image is already shot. So let's drop the act, okay?]
Hubert could totally read Richard's mind. He jumped at the chance to show off in front of Rebecca.
Hubert: [Eugene and I haven't hooked up with anyone else. Unlike you, who knows how many times you've done it.]
Eugene: [You know what you're like, right?]
He quickly tried to impress Elizabeth.
Eugene: [Hubert and I never mess around. Only you have swapped partners countless times. If you hadn't known Brenda had issues, you would've totally fallen for it today.]
Richard went quiet. These two were shameless. If they wanted to show loyalty, why drag him down?
Richard: [If you hang out with someone like me, how decent does that make you?]
Richard: [@Hubert Where's your Angela? Didn't you used to take her everywhere?]
Richard: [@Eugene You used to meet Brenda privately a lot. Today's situation should've been yours, not mine. Brenda's always been after you.]
He thought, 'Alright, let's throw punches! Who's scared?'
Hubert: [Get lost, you never say anything nice.]
Eugene: [All you do is spread lies. Just shut up.]
They couldn't let Rebecca and Elizabeth get the wrong idea.
Elizabeth: [None of you are good people.]
Rebecca: [Exactly, none of you are good people. But watching you guys tear each other apart is pretty fun.]
Elizabeth: [Keep going.]
The three of them went silent.
Hubert: [Back to the main topic. Elizabeth, if Brenda had succeeded today and taken half of Richard's Generational Blessings, what would've happened to him?]
Elizabeth: [He'd start having bad luck after seven days, tripping while walking, choking on water, and everything in his work and life would go wrong. He might even get hit by a car, slip down the stairs, or have a flower pot fall on him while walking down the street. These things would happen every month.]
Elizabeth: [Losing half of his Generational Blessings wouldn't directly kill him, but it would be pretty miserable. Today, he might break his hand in a car accident. Tomorrow, he might break his leg getting hit by a car. These things would happen frequently. If he loses more Generational Blessings after that, his life could be affected and possibly shortened.]
Richard swallowed hard. Luckily, he dodged it with the spell scroll. Otherwise, he'd be toast. He messaged.
Richard: [It's that serious?]
Hubert: [Richard, take care!]
Eugene: [Richard, take care!]
Richard: [Shut up! I haven't fallen for it yet.]
These two jerks made it sound like he was already doomed.
Hubert thought of a question. So he tagged Elizabeth.
Hubert: [@Elizabeth If Richard hadn't rejected Brenda today, would there have been any issues?]
Elizabeth: [Once they had any relationship, the spell's connection would be even stronger. Even if Richard didn't agree to lend his Generational Blessings, Brenda could still leech off his Generational Blessings like Angela does with you. And if Brenda couldn't stay in the Clark Family anymore, with her personality, she would definitely use this to threaten and coerce Richard in various ways.]
Elizabeth: [@Richard You were lucky to be a coward today. Otherwise, the consequences would've been dire. Your friends can only mourn for you.]
Elizabeth didn't think Richard was a good person for not touching Brenda. He was just scared because he knew Brenda had issues.
