Chapter 355 How Did It Turn Out Like This?

Brenda was fuming when she heard that. "What kind of attitude is that? Samuel specifically told you to take care of me. You need to do your job."

Gregory rolled his eyes. "Samuel? Big deal. Look, I'm just Samuel's friend, not his servant. Helping you out is a favor, not my duty. Handle it yourself."

He was fed up with Brenda's constant drama. After that, he stormed off, leaving Brenda, whose arm was both hurting and itching, crying out of frustration. She had no choice but to cover the wound and head to a hospital to get it bandaged. Her resentment towards Elizabeth grew even stronger.

Not long after she got back her place, Brenda started feeling chills, shivering uncontrollably. The divination association didn't have air conditioning, and even with several blankets, she couldn't get warm. Then she started sweating like crazy, feeling like she was on fire. After a while, the chills came back, followed by the heat again. Unable to take it anymore, she called Gregory.

Gregory just said, "You won't die. Just tough it out for a couple of days," and hung up.

Brenda was livid. She started hating him too. What kind of people did Samuel arrange? He used to be nice, but now he was just a jerk. She couldn't reach Samuel, otherwise, she would definitely complain. For now, she had to endure it.

Brenda was tormented by the alternating cold and heat, and her body was both painful and itchy. Meanwhile, those three people had reached the border city.

One of them suddenly collapsed, clutching his neck with wide eyes, kicking his legs like he was being choked. Soon, he stopped moving and died. The other two were terrified. After dealing with the body, they hurriedly smuggled out of the country.

In Aevum City.

The evil wizard contacted Amy, saying he had already fought with Elizabeth. She was really powerful, and he needed more money to make another move. Since this wizard was introduced by Amy's beloved, she trusted him. He asked for another ten million dollars, and she agreed, making the transfer as requested.

Abroad.

Orlando discovered that Amy first transferred twenty million dollars to an account. He had someone investigate whose account it was. Just as they found out it belonged to someone from Eldoria, Amy transferred another ten million dollars to the same person. This was super suspicious.

Then his assistant reported that the person was an evil wizard from Eldoria. Orlando's expression changed. What was Amy up to? Her transferring money to an evil wizard couldn't be for anything good.

After thinking for a moment, he had a guess. He knew Eugene had been keeping an eye on Amy, so he called Eugene, asking him to warn Elizabeth to be cautious. Additionally, he wanted to help Eugene as a way to mend his relationship with Elizabeth.

If it weren't for the fear of alerting the people behind Amy, he would have dealt with her directly. Orlando wanted to kick Amy out of the Baker Family and cut off her funds to teach her a lesson. Amy had been using the Baker Family's money for years without doing anything good.

He was floored when the King Family's dirty laundry got aired online. To him, the King Family was small potatoes. Once he dealt with the real masterminds, he'd handle the King Family. He knew Amy was all about the King Family, so he had to play the lovesick fool to keep the people behind Amy off his back. That was why he didn't meddle much in these affairs.

So, he never really took the King Family seriously, thinking they were just a nuisance best ignored. Who would've thought they'd use Amy and the Baker Family's clout to pull off all sorts of illegal and nasty stuff? It made him sick. He wanted the King Family to crash and burn, with every guilty member locked up. So, he had no plans to help and kept up his disappearing act.

After getting Orlando's warning, Eugene couldn't help but head to Aevum City to find Elizabeth. On the way, he bumped into Brenda. She looked awful—pale, worn out, and her skin was a mess. She looked like she'd aged twenty years, and he was stunned.

What had happened to her? He figured Brenda must've done something bad and was getting what she deserved. Served her right.

Brenda had ventured out today to buy medicine. Sensing someone's gaze on her, she looked up and saw Eugene. Her expression changed instantly; she covered her face and quickly turned to flee. She couldn't bear for Eugene to see her like this, fearing it would ruin the image she had in his mind.

Eugene, watching her sudden departure, was speechless and wondered if Brenda had lost her mind.

At the Hotel.

Elizabeth had not only drawn a Spellscroll but also carved a few gems to use as temporary magical tools for setting up formations. Hearing a knock on the door, she got up to open it. Seeing Eugene at the door, she was puzzled. "Do you need something?" she asked.

She knew from Rebecca that Eugene hadn't left Aevum City; rather, he was lingering in the city with Amy.

Seeing her cold demeanor, Eugene's heart ached. "I have something important to tell you. It's not convenient to talk here."

Elizabeth opened the door. "Alright, come in and say it."

After entering, Eugene got straight to the point. "My dad called me today and said he found out my mom transferred thirty million dollars to an evil wizard from Eldoria. We suspect she might have hired the evil wizard to come after you."

He had guessed Amy would do something bad, but he didn't expect her to go this far. He didn't confront or stop Amy because he knew it would be useless; she wouldn't listen to him. So he could only warn Elizabeth to be careful.

Elizabeth didn't expect Eugene to come and warn her about this. "I know about this. She and Brenda had colluded before, bribing..." She recounted the previous events.

Eugene's face changed after hearing it. He looked at her worriedly. "Are you alright?"

Elizabeth shook her head. "I'm fine. Those three replaced the hair with Brenda's."

Eugene was relieved and finally understood why Brenda had ended up like that. "No wonder. I ran into Brenda on the way here. She looked much older, pale, and haggard. So she brought it on herself."

Hearing this, Elizabeth knew Brenda was following the path she had anticipated. Good, now she could proceed to the next step. She suddenly looked at Eugene and asked, "Didn't you go to the hospital to see Enrique?"

Eugene was puzzled. "No, what's the matter?"
