Chapter 277 Looked Like a Forlorn Puppy

As the big ol' spinning wheel loomed in front of them, the cast practically buzzed with excitement. Arthur had definitely nailed it with this new twist.

Nancy, with a mischievous twinkle in her eye, piped up, "Arthur, are we getting another mystery guest this time?"

The group was all ears. The production team had said no more surprise celebs, so who the heck could it be?

Arthur's grin got even wider. "Well, Nancy, there is a guest, but I don't know who it is either. That's the mystery."

Nancy raised an eyebrow. "Wait, you don't even know who it is?"

Arthur's smile stayed put. "The production team set it up so you gotta find a non-celeb guest in Aevum City. If they agree, they will join us as the temp guest."

Arthur figured the non-celeb guest was probably already picked, but no one told him who it was. With the higher-ups breathing down his neck and an extra guest making team setups easier among the eleven current ones, Arthur was cool with it.

Elizabeth's eyes narrowed, deep in thought. She wondered, 'Is this why Brenda's backer pickedSeraphim Heights?' She couldn't shake the feeling it was more than just a coincidence.

"So, how do we use this big wheel to form teams? Does the person the arrow lands on join the team?" Elizabeth asked, curiosity all over her face.

Arthur nodded approvingly. "Exactly. With twelve of you, you'll split into three teams of four. And yep, whoever the arrow points to joins the spinner's team."

Raymond jumped in right away. "Can we spin it ourselves?"

Arthur smiled. "The plan was for the production team to spin it, but if you wanna do it yourselves, go for it."

Raymond didn't miss a beat. "Then we'll spin it ourselves."

Arthur nodded. "To keep it fair, you'll draw lots for the spinning order."

Arthur's assistant stepped up, showing off a sealed, opaque box filled with numbered balls. Inside was one ball numbered one and ten labeled zero. Each guest drew a ball.

Raymond was lucky pulled number one, grinning like a kid on Christmas.

"I'll spin first then," he announced confidently, winking at Elizabeth. "Hope I get you."

Elizabeth gave him a thumbs-up. "Good luck."

But deep down, Elizabeth had a hunch that Raymond wouldn't end up on her team this time. She figured Brenda's backer had probably rigged the whole thing.

Sure enough, when Raymond spun the wheel, the arrow slowed down and almost stopped at Elizabeth's name. Just as he was about to celebrate, the arrow nudged a bit more and landed on Brenda's name.

Raymond's face fell. "Damn it," he muttered, totally bummed out. Brenda, on the other hand, looked like she just won the lottery. It was like fate had thrown her right in Raymond's path.

With a heavy sigh, Raymond trudged back to Elizabeth, looking like a kicked puppy. "Elizabeth, today is just not my day!"

Elizabeth tried to cheer him up. "It's okay. It's just a team. Have some fun with it."

Raymond shrugged. "I guess that's all I can do. Just hope my teammate gets your name next."

Elizabeth smiled. "Let's hope so."

Inside, Elizabeth sighed, already suspecting the backers had rigged the whole thing to ensure certain interactions. When Brenda's name was off the list, they kept going.

Brenda drew Nancy, and Nancy drew Enrique, rounding out their team. Both Nancy and Raymond visibly cringed, realizing they'd have to deal with two troublemakers.

The next round of team formation went differently. Ronald got Elbert, Elbert got Marlon, and Marlon drew Natalie. The pattern was becoming clear.

Arthur then announced the last team. Elizabeth, Kevin, and Eugene waited, now joined by the mystery guest.

Raymond mumbled a defeated, "Figures." Kevin and Eugene exchanged excited grins, thrilled by the unexpected turn of events.

Elizabeth wasn't surprised. The manipulation was obvious. She saw Brenda's backer's fingerprints all over it, putting Raymond in opposition to her team. But instead of feeling down, it only made her more determined. She felt a calm resolve wash over her, and still curious about the mystery guest and their role.

Arthur removed the final names, confirming the teams. "Alright, everyone, gather with your team."

Raymond, shaking his head, walked over to Elizabeth and sighed, "Elizabeth, we can't be on the same team this time."

For a moment, Raymond looked so dejected that Elizabeth couldn't help but gently pat his head. "It's okay; even if we're not on the same team, we can still help each other out."
