Chapter 77 So Annoying

Soon, a male voice came through her ear. "It's me!"

Elizabeth was surprised; she hadn't expected Richard to call.

She pretended not to recognize him. "Who is this?"

Richard paused. "Elizabeth, can't you tell who I am?"

Elizabeth replied, "How would I know a stranger's voice? If you don't say your name, I'm hanging up."

Richard's face darkened. "I'm your brother."

Elizabeth sneered, "Brother? I don't remember having one. Wrong number!"

She hung up.

Richard listened to the busy tone, incredulous.

In the past, even when he had treated Elizabeth poorly, she never hung up on him.

His face darkened again. "Fine, you're really pushing it!"

But to get Elizabeth back to the company and home, he called again, only to find she had blocked him.

Richard couldn't hold back and smashed his phone in anger.

After that, Richard took a deep breath, went out, and borrowed a phone from a passerby.

He called Elizabeth again.

"Hello!" Elizabeth's voice came through, and this time Richard didn't hold back.

"It's me, Richard."

Elizabeth was on the sofa, waiting for Rebecca to try on dresses.

"So, the star agent of the Clark Group. What do you want?"

Richard, like Kevin, was annoying. They never spoke properly and always caused trouble.

Now that they were being dealt with, they spoke properly.

She had given them too much face before.

Richard didn't like how Elizabeth addressed him.

But he knew if he upset her, she'd hang up again.

"I have something to discuss with you."

Elizabeth replied, "What could we possibly have to discuss?"

Richard held back his anger. "Loren and I want to offer you a new contract. The best we can offer. What do you think?"

He added, "No other entertainment company would offer you such a deal."

Elizabeth rolled her eyes. "I appreciate your charity, but I don't like accepting it. Keep it for someone else."

Richard doubted his ears, raising his voice. "You don't want it?"

Elizabeth moved the phone away. "I made it clear. Is your comprehension that poor? No wonder you haven't unearthed any major talents. Maybe you should check if you're sick or reconsider if you're suited for the entertainment industry. Stop harming others."

Richard was silent.

He had only said one sentence, and she had said so much.

He had always known Elizabeth had a sharp tongue, but he hadn't expected her to be so sarcastic.

"Thanks for your concern, but you don't need to worry about that."

Elizabeth said disdainfully, "Could you lower your voice? It's hurting my ears."

She pouted, "And you call yourself a rich heir. With that loud voice, you could scare away a bunch of rich girls. No wonder you can't find a girlfriend."

She had long wanted to scold Richard.

Since he called, she would satisfy him.

Richard was silent, suddenly wanting to strangle his sister.

"Elizabeth, don't go too far."

Elizabeth smiled, hung up, and blocked him again.

Rebecca turned and asked, "Was it someone from your family?"

Elizabeth nodded. "Richard called, offering me the best contract from the company. He thinks I'll bite."

Rebecca rolled her eyes. "He must be crazy."

She curiously asked, "Do you think he'll call again?"

Listening to Elizabeth mock that arrogant Richard was so satisfying.

Elizabeth had never lost an argument.

She had learned to deal with people like Amy from Elizabeth.

Elizabeth knew Richard well. "He'll definitely call again."

Richard had the strongest need for control among the brothers; he wouldn't stop until he got what he wanted.

Sure enough, just as she finished speaking, the phone rang again, another unknown number.

Rebecca blinked. "Should you answer? I want to hear you scold him again."

Elizabeth chuckled. "Why not? We're bored, and teasing him is fun."

Rebecca gave a thumbs up. "That's why you're the best."

This time, Elizabeth put it on speaker.

Richard's strained voice came through. "Sister, can't we just have a normal conversation?"

He held back from yelling, afraid she'd hang up again.

Elizabeth yawned. "Stop, we're not that close. Don't call me Sister. It's gross."

Richard was silent. Could they even have a proper conversation?

He gritted his teeth. "Fine, I won't call you Sister, okay? I'll send you the contract. Think about it. You're smart. Why refuse the best deal you can get?"

Elizabeth scoffed. "Because I'm smart, I can't associate with idiots like you!"

Richard was furious. "Elizabeth, are you sure you don't want it?"

Elizabeth's voice was firm. "No, not interested."

Since being nice didn't work, Richard tried a tougher approach. "So you don't want to stay in the entertainment industry anymore?"

Elizabeth sneered. "You guys already said you'd ban me, but I'm still here and popular. Your threats are empty. If I were you, I'd hide in shame."

Richard was so angry he almost fell over. "You're really something."

No one had ever dared to mock him like this.

Elizabeth's temper and courage had both grown.

Elizabeth cheerfully replied, "Thanks for the compliment."

Then she disdainfully added, "Why do you talk so much nonsense? If you have something to say, say it. If not, I'm hanging up."

Richard hurriedly said, "Wait! Think about the contract. If you want to sign, you can contact me anytime."

He was afraid she'd hang up immediately.

He quickly added, "Mom misses you and wants you to come home."

Elizabeth retorted, "Who's Mom? I don't know her!"

Richard hadn't expected mentioning Betty wouldn't work either.

He took a deep breath. "Fine, let me rephrase. Mrs. Clark misses you and hopes you'll come home."

Elizabeth laughed. "I already said, if your brain is broken or you're sick, see a doctor. How long has it been since I cut ties with the Clark family, and you've already forgotten? That's not my home, remember that next time."

She suggested, "Brains are a good thing. Don't forget to bring them with you."

Richard, seething with fury, began, "Elizabeth, you—"

But his words evaporated into the ether as the familiar dial tone interrupted once more.

A tremor of frustration coursed through him, brewing a tempest of emotions.

When he called again, he found he was blocked once more.

His temper reached a boiling point, the thin veil of politeness now shredded. He craved a release, a venting of his pent-up ire.

So he borrowed another phone to call again.

This time Elizabeth didn't answer and declined the call.

She knew Richard's temper; he was definitely calling to scold her now.

So she didn't answer, deliberately letting him stew in his anger.

Richard didn't give up, borrowing over a dozen phones to call, all with the same result.

At this moment, he understood everything.

Elizabeth was deliberately messing with him.

Finally, Richard returned to his office, smashing things in a fit of rage.

But it didn't calm him down; his anger only grew.

He regretted it. He shouldn't have called Elizabeth; it was infuriating!
