Chapter 474 I Will Avenge Elizabeth
Enrique was the first to regain his composure. He asked, still a bit uncertain, "Elizabeth and Mom had the same dream, so that's why she was so determined to cut ties before?"
Richard rolled his eyes at him, "Isn't it obvious? Why even ask?"
He thought, 'Enrique, having been drained of Generational Blessings by Brenda, is becoming more confused by the day.'
Enrique sighed, "No wonder she made that choice. If it were me, I'd definitely cut ties too. She and Mom have the same dream—such a miraculous thing must be connected. Otherwise, how could they have had the same dream by such coincidence?"
Suddenly, he thought of something. He muttered, "Could it be like in those scripts where she actually lived through it again?" As a director, he had seen many such scripts. Elizabeth's situation did seem a bit like living through it again.
Kevin interjected, "No way, Mom had the same dream too, didn't she? But she must have experienced that kind of death, which is why she was so determined."
Arnold sighed, "So, between us and Elizabeth, there's actually a life in between, right?"
Enrique nodded, "Exactly. According to Mom, even though we were all deceived by Brenda, Elizabeth was indirectly killed by us." Thinking about that dream made him feel quite uncomfortable.
He self-critically remarked, "Choosing Brenda over Elizabeth, we must have been out of our minds."
Richard pondered momentarily and stated, "It's not just that. I also suspect that the kidnapper was connected to Brenda. Otherwise, how could it be such a coincidence? Two people are kidnapped together, and the kidnapper let one go based on our choice. If it were a truly perverted kidnapper, wouldn't he do the opposite of what we chose? The more we chose someone, the more he should have killed the one we cared about. Suddenly saying he had a terminal illness and wanted to vent his anger, then shooting Elizabeth—it felt like he was deliberately clarifying for the person behind the scenes."
Enrique agreed, "That must be it. After all, you're the most perverted in our family. If you can think of it, then a perverted kidnapper would too. The fact that the kidnapper didn't follow that logic shows he was instructed by someone. Based on past experience, this has Brenda written all over it."
Richard shot back, feeling irritated. "If you can't speak properly, then say less."
Enrique pouted, "It's the truth."
Paul also fell into deep thought. He felt very distressed, realizing that Elizabeth had gone through such a choice, which was why she didn't want to have anything to do with them anymore. If it were him or his parents in the dream, they would have chosen Elizabeth.
Elizabeth was his biological daughter, after all, and he owed her so many years. But Paul couldn't deny that he wasn't much better than Betty and the others. He was also an irresponsible father, not caring enough for Elizabeth after she was brought back. Although he didn't favor Brenda, he believed Betty and his sons when they said Elizabeth was causing trouble.
He wasn't a good father, so it was no wonder Elizabeth also resisted and disliked him. It wasn't just Elizabeth; it was the same with the other four sons. That was why they were easily manipulated by Brenda from a young age and did those bad things. Paul sighed heavily, "It's all our fault. We can't really blame Elizabeth." Now he wanted to make up for those debts, but Elizabeth was resolute in refusing, which made him feel even worse.
At this moment, the dazed Betty's face twisted with rage. She shouted, "It's all Brenda's fault. If it weren't for Brenda, Elizabeth wouldn't have been taken away. If it weren't for her, we wouldn't have angered Elizabeth into cutting ties."
She started crying again, "If it weren't for her, Elizabeth wouldn't have been shot by the kidnapper." The image of Elizabeth's face changing from hopeful to despairing before her death lingered in Betty's mind. Thinking of that scene made her feel extremely distressed. Brenda not only caused Elizabeth's death but also played their entire family.
She thought she had feelings for Brenda after raising her for so many years. That was why she took Brenda in and even gave her money several times. But Brenda didn't appreciate it and even called her stingy and mean. What she couldn't accept was that she had transferred her affection for Elizabeth to Brenda, treating her even better than her sons. But Brenda had been secretly keeping in touch with Piper all along.
Previously, Brenda had sweet-talked Betty, saying she only had one mom and that Betty was the closest. But the affectionate looks and intimacy in the photos didn't lie. So, from the beginning, in Brenda's heart, Piper was her real mother, and Betty was just being used.
Betty thought, 'I have invested over a decade of emotions, only to get this in return. Brenda is truly heartless.' With eyes full of hatred, she said, "I won't let her get away with this. I will avenge Elizabeth."
The Clark brothers, seeing Betty like this, all felt a sense of realization. Indeed, it took something happening to her personally for her to feel the pain. They had tried to persuade her so many times before, but she always favored Brenda and didn't value them.
Richard remarked, "Mom, you brought this on yourself. You've been biased toward Brenda since we were kids, always telling us not to bully her and to treat her like a real sister. People who are favored always have nothing to fear. Brenda's personality is your creation."
Kevin couldn't help but add, "Mom, if you can't stand being used and deceived by Brenda, then go avenge yourself. I don't think Elizabeth needs you to avenge her. If Elizabeth really went through everything in that dream, then we're all culprits. Don't push everything onto Brenda."
After being repeatedly struck by Elizabeth, Kevin had also learned to reflect. He was somewhat inclined to believe Enrique's guess that Elizabeth had lived through it again. Although it seemed far-fetched and miraculous, Elizabeth's change was too resolute. Without having experienced it, how could she be so deeply hurt and pained?
So the Clark brothers all felt guilty toward Elizabeth. They had already caused her death once, so how could they have the nerve to use her as an excuse for so-called revenge?
